News from the office Lookout Nemo here we come!
Nothing beats a day with Atmosphere Tour
By Michaella Rory, VTO Information Officer: We needed to get out and see what all this excitement was all about, Nemo Underwater Scooter, so the three of us, Sebastien Bador (Events and Trade Manager), Maina Lukai (Trade and Events officer) and I, strolled down to the Nambawan café to the Big Blue dive office to get ready and embark on Vila’s first underwater scooter experience. I couldn’t wait to try it out. When we arrived, we got into gear and followed the guide underwater. Wow and I was amazed that the scooter was so easy to operator and what I was seeing underwater the colourful corals and tropical fishes were a sight for sore eyes. The “scooting” business, was definitely a first time experience for us and we had a great guide who took us through each steps making the experience thoroughly enjoyable. Read more.
By Charlie Sikal, media student attachee: Warriors disperse in their hiding location and as the breeze gently brushes your face, you quickly pick up a whiff of smoke in the bush from the fires that are lit in the gardens. At a distance we start to see warriors stand their guard with bows and arrows as they come towards us. It’s a scary feeling, and reminds me of the ancient days stories that our village elders used to tell us when I was growing up, stories of their ancestory tribal wars and the likes, they looked fearsome. The guests and I remained standing at the village entrance, observing what was to happen next when suddenly a conch shell was blown nearby and the village chief welcomed us to his nasara or village. There we we listened to tales of the past, watch custom dances, and the spectacular fire walkers tread on hot stones with such ease and no sign of scotching pain from the fire, simply unbelievable! For them cakes are like an artist’s canvas, it is their creative outlet where they transform a cake into a masterpiece. Each year the Origin Culinary Arts & Hospitality Show has beautifully decorated occasional cakes on display. The cakes are part of the competition; they are judged and awarded points with the winner announced on the day of the competition. Trade & Media Vanuatu trip a life changer
Posted on 14 October 2013, source Starcommunity.com by Rebecca Bills: WITH the football season over for another year, most clubs opted for the traditional footy trip or ‘Mad Monday’ revelry to end the season. But for Olinda Ferny Creek’s Football and Netball (OFC) end of season trip, Vanuatu was the destination of choice to promote and develop the country’s sports. A total of 42 footballers, netballers and support staff from the club spent one week volunteering their time to conduct clinics with more than 1000 children and youth in schools around the main island of Efate. Club president Helen Wositzky said experiencing another culture, creating friendships and making an effort to help a developing country was perfect to meet one of the club’s key aims – providing young players with personal growth and development opportunities. This was the first time a football and netball club had undertaken such a trip to Vanuatu. Describing the experience as eye opening for the OFC players, Ms Wositzky said although there is such a dire lack of facilities and resources, the local children exuded immense joy and happiness. “Most had such wonderful natural athleticism that they picked up the game instantly,” she said. “The appreciation of the children, teachers, Vanuatu AFL and netball was amazing.” Link to full story online: http://rangestrader.starcommunity.com.au/mail/201310-14/vanuatu-trip-a-life-changer/
