News from the office VTO TO BUILD ON-LINE PHOTO LIBRARY The Vanuatu Tourism Organization (VTO) has taken the first steps in creating a professional On-line Photo Library to promote Vanuatu as a premier holiday destination. Professional photographer David Kirkland, who has a long association with Vanuatu and is regarded as one of the region's top travel and tourism photographers, has been commissioned by the VTO to photograph Vanuatu's tourism highlights and build a library of promotional images. The library, which will be managed by the VTO and linked to its web site, will house more than 300 high quality, high resolution images that will be made available through a secure portal to travel agents, media, tourism stakeholders and local operators to promote Vanuatu abroad. While David will lay the foundations of the photo library to ensure high standards are established and professional protocols are in place, other photographers will be invited to strengthen the library on an on-going basis - particularly in areas of underwater photography, arial photography and subjects which are likely to appeal to Vanuatu's niche' markets. The VTO is working with David now to establish the criteria for the library which will be summarized and circulated to all interested parties. In the course of the project, David will photograph Pentecost Island, Espiritu Santo, Malekula, Ambrym, Tanna and Efate. The VTO acknowledges the support of the following industry operators who have assisted in phase 1 of the photo shoot Air Vanuatu, Poppys on the Lagoon, South Pentecost Tourism Association, Pangi Community (south Pentecost), Espiritu Santo Tourism Association‌ read full article.

2013 Open Water Swim Press Release
By Troy Spann, organizer of the OWS: The start of the Vanuatu Open Water Swim returned to Iririki this year where I believe it has been run from in the past, which was enjoyed greatly by competitors and organisers alike. 111 swimmers went around Iririki which is a record since the Rossi to Rossi swim changed to the Vanuatu Open Water Swim in 2011. The youngest was local swimmer Harry Ling aged 12 in 80 minutes and 3 seconds and the oldest 84 year old Syd Salek from New Zealand in 89 minutes and 50 seconds. The first across the line was Australian Swimmer Craig Magnusson in 45 minutes and 28 seconds, right behind him was the first female swimmer across the line Lisandra de Carvalho in 47 minutes and 27 seconds. On the local side, the first Masterbather across the line was Mathew Hall in 48 minutes and 24 seconds and the first female Masterbather Sarah Brewster in 58 minutes and 58 seconds. The biggest cheer was for the last swimmer to cross the line Glenda Shelley who spent over 98 minutes in the water, what a big effort. Glenda moved from the 1k swim to the 3.2k the morning of the event wanting to challenge herself. The Vanuatu Open Water Swim is going from strength to strength with over 90 people coming from overseas, over 60 swimmers and over 30 non swimmers. A good portion of these headed up to Santo for the Santo Swim week organised by Paul and Suanne from Oceanswims which is a great win for Santo. There are many to thank for the day, foremost Paul and Suanne with their continued support and promotion of the event, the VTO for providing staff which was a huge help especially during registration, the Mastebathers for their continued support of the event, Iririki Island Resort for allowing us to use their great venue, the Marquee on the Beach made life so much easier and last but not least my great staff and family.
