" VanderWerf stated that the College has n o t o r d e r e d final p l a n s f o r the b u i l d i n g b e c a u s e , " t h e r e are m a n y m a j o r d o n o r s t h a t w o n ' t t o u c h t h e t h i n g u n l e s s t h e y can have the f u n of p l a y i n g w i t h t h e b l u e p r i n t s , c u t t i n g o u t this a n d adding that, making changes, and calling up the a r c h i t e c t a n d telling him h e ' s a b u m . T h e s c i e n c e b u i l d i n g was orginally i n c l u d e d in the $ 1 0 million, 10 y e a r M a s t e r Plan u n v e i l e d in O c t o b e r , 1 9 6 5 . T h e $1 million grant f o r t h e s t r u c t u r e was app r o v e d by the g o v e r n m e n t in April, 1 9 6 7 . T h e $2 million l o a n f o l l o w e d t h e grant in May, 1 9 6 7 . T h e b u i l d i n g was t o have b e e n e r e c t e d in t h e fall of 1 9 6 8 . IN F E B R U A R Y , 1968, the anchor reported that the science b u i l d i n g p l a n s w e r e b e i n g re-designed t c p e r m i t a l o w e r - c o s t b u i l d i n g w i t h g r e a t e r use and e f f i ciency.
