Dean's List Achieved by 496 Students T h e D e a n ' s List of s t u d e n t s in high academic standing h a s been a n n o u n c e d this past week. F o u r hundred-ninety-six s t u d e n t s attained the h o n o r for the fall semester. In o r d e r to be p l a c e d o n the D e a n ' s List, a s t u d e n t m u s t c a r r y a 1 2 - h o u r subject l o a d , a n d h a v e a g r a d e point a v e r a g e of 3.0. S e n i o r s d o m i n a t e d the list with 4 5 per cent of the s e n i o r c l a s s m a i n t a i n i n g a 3.0. T h e j u n i o r s listed 3 5 per cent of their c l a s s , s o p h o m o r e s rated 2 5 percent, a n d the f r e s h m e n placed 2 1 per cent of their s t u d e n t s o n the list. A p p r o x i m a t e l y 3 0 per cent of the c a m p u s a t t a i n e d a B a v e r a g e , with w o m e n o u t n u m b e r i n g m e n b y a significant margin.

Chapel Problem Has Long History By J a n D z u r i n a anchor Reporter T h e q u e s t i o n of r e q u i r e d c h a p e l is not as strictly c o n t e m p o r a r y a p r o b l e m a s it s o m e t i m e s seems; its h i s t o r y g o e s b a c k o v e r a halfcentury. A 1912 a n c h o r article s t a t e d , " A l t h o u g h a t t e n d a n c e is not c o m p u l s o r y , n e v e r t h e l e s s the s t u d e n t s a r e e a r n e s t l y u r g e d to c o m e . " T h e article f u r t h e r stated t h a t since " s o m e students a p p e a r occasiona l l y , " it is t h e n the r e s p o n s i b i l i t y of the students " t o d o all in their p o w e r to s t i m u l a t e a n interest in chapel a n d set a n e x a m p l e .
