At 12:15 p.m. T u e s d a y , Dr. Purcell will a t t e n d a luncheon with m e m b e r s of the faculty and administration and their wives. At 5:15 p.m. there will be a dinner for AWS Board m e m b e r s and Dr. Purcell. At 7 p . m . she will conduct an informal question and a n s w e r period in the lounge of Phelps Hall. Dr. Purcell received h e r A B. d e g r e e from Yankton College and both her Master of Arts d e g r e e and Doctor of Education degree f r o m T e a c h e r s College, Columbia University. The Division of Home and Community which Dr. Purcell h e a d s includes the d e p a r t m e n t of child study, business and retailing, community life, family life education and physical education. Prior to joining the faculty at Stephens College, Dr. Purcell acted as consultant in the formation of the college's new basic course. The Cont e m p o r a r y Woman. ' We Five to Perform Tonight' DR. MARY LOU G. PURCELL lege in Richmond. Ind. and directed that p r o g r a m for three y e a r s with the rank of assistant iprofessor of sociology and psychology. Dr. Purcell is a m e m b e r of the National Council of F a m i l y Relations and is listed in the 1966-67 issue of "Who's Who in American Women." She is m a r r i e d to Dale Purcell who is serving as Development Consultant to President VanderWerf. They have two children.

Tonight at 8 p.m. in the Holland Civic Center the "We F i v e " will present to Hope College students and townspeople e x a m p l e s of their now f a m o u s "Thought and Soul" sound. Mike Stewart, leader of the group, will be presiding on s t a g e with Bob Jones. Beverly Bivens, Pete Fullerton and J e r r y B u r g a r .

On April 20. 1965, the group presented their new musical concept by recording their now f a m o u s "I woke up this morning, you were on my m i n d . " Close behind its success c a m e the production of their album, showing the fine r a n g e and diversity of the group's talent. "Thought and Soul" music is

unique to this group and cannot be properly classified b y labeling it as Rock and Roll or rhythm and blues. It is a combination ot both. Ken Feit will be the m a s t e r of ceremonies at the concert. T h e r e will be a few tickets sold at the door.

Started about three y e a r s ago by Mike Stewart, and known as the Tidge Runners, they w e r e first folk singing group. When brought to the attention of F r a n k Werber. m a n a g e r of the Kingston Trio, he urged t h e m to work on a sound of their own. After signing a contract with this production company. Trident Productions, they proceeded to do so.

'Sing': Tomorrow Night •WE FIVE'—This nationally-known singing group will present their concert of 'Thought and Soul' music tonight at 8 pan. in the Civic Center as part of this year's Student Entertainment Series.

Seven Receive Vienna Summer Scholarships William J . Hilmert, director of financial aid at Hope College announced Wednesday the recipients of this y e a r ' s scholarships for the 1966 Vienna S u m m e r School Program. Seven scholarships a r e being given this y e a r , two scholarships for $600 and five for $300. In previous y e a r s only five scholarships h a v e been available. Dr. P a u l F r i e d , professor of history and director ot international study at Hope said the increase "is due to the l a r g e n u m b e r of qualifying and deserving applicans." Those receiving this y e a r ' s scholarships a r e : M a r s h a Hendricks, Randall Miller, Robert Schwegler, Maria Oosse, Ted Van D a m , Ruth

Ziemann and Charles Walvoord. In order to be considered for a scholarship, a student m u s t h a v e completed two y e a r s of college work with an a c a d e m i c a v e r a g e of 3.3 and plan to r e t u r n to Hope for the following school year. Dr. Fried explained that the reason for the r e q u i r e m e n t s being as rigid as they are, is, " t h a t we hope to a t t r a c t those students whom we feel a r e of outstanding a c a d e m i c c h a r a c t e r and who will derive g r e a t p l e a s u r e as well as intellectual growth through this p r o g r a m . " Those participating in the summ e r school will sail f r o m New York on J u n e 7 and will r e t u r n by jet from P a r i s on Sept. 9.

Grandberg Will Deliver Last Chance Talk Tuesday

ALL-COLLEGE SING—-Several weeks of hard practicing will be climaxed tomorrow night when the annual "Sing" is presented in the Civic Center. The competition between the sororities will include renditions of "Winnie and Minnie" (Alpha Phi), "Fire, Fire, My Heart" (Delta Phi), "Pines at Night" (Sorosis), "The Nightingale and the Glowworm" (Kappa Chi), "Cruel War" (Dorian), and "Much More" (Sybelline). The fraternities will vie with "Ride the Chariot" (Emersonian), "With a Little Bit of Luck" (Knickerbocker), "I Hear a Voice A-Praying" (Arcadian), "Greensleeves" (Cosmopolitan) and "Creation" (Fraternal). While the judges are conferring the freshman will sing " 0 Brother Man" and two faculty skits will be presented. A reception in Phelps will follow the event, according to co-chairmen Mary Leestma and John Klein.

" M y Vaccination Didn't T a k e " will be the title of Dr. L a r s Granb e r g ' s Last Chance Talk next Wed nesday at 8:15 in D i m n e n t Chapel. " T h e liberal spirit is an essential product of education, an honest liberal spirit over against what often passes for liberal thinking," said Dr. G r a n b e r g . "This liberal spirit is often confused with its counterfeit, a doctrinaire viewpoint which is f u n d a m e n t a l l y uniliberal." Born in Norway, Dr. G r a n b e r g was graduated f r o m Wheaton College with a B.S. d e g r e e in anthropology and continued study at the University of Chicago in psychology and psychotherapy w h e r e he received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. A m e m b e r of Hope's faculty since 1947, Dr. G r a n b e r g is pr esent l y Acting Vice P r e s i d e n t for Academic Affairs. A coffee and question period with Dr. G r a n b e r g will be held a f t e r the talk.
