Members of several student organizalions have joined together in hopes that their voices will he belter heard in tho final selection process of the new Director of Student Activities. "After talking with several students about the process of how we are selecting the new director. I got the sense that many students fell our voices were not being heard by merely an evaluation," said Michael M c C u n e ( ' 9 9 ) , Director of W T H S . McCune invited leaders from other student organizations, such as Greek Life, Social Activities Committee, the Milestone, the Anchor, Fellowship of Christian Students, W o m e n ' s Issues Organization, Nykerk, Pull, and RISE, to discuss each of the candidates. Each of the students was a member of one of two interview teams who have met with each of the candidates separately beginning on Tuesday, April 20. On Monday, April 26, the students met to weigh the qualifications of each candidate and reach a consensus of which would be the best for all organizations. Richard Frost, Dean of Students, feels the interviewing process has been effective and values student opinions. "There are strengths to all of the candidates and we will look over the evaluations from faculty and students and take their views into consideration," he said. "Wc were very impressed with the candidates and their qualifications," said Nikkellc Johnson ('99) Co-Editor of the Milestone. "Wc were excited about what each of them can offer Hope." Final candidates for the j o b include Diana Breclaw, Assistant Director of Student Activities at Elmhurst College, III.; Ann Comerford, Special Programs and Center Events Graduate Assistant at Southern Illinois University, and Melissa Yonan, Advisor and Fraternity/Sorority Specialist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. M c C u n e declined to comment on which candidate the students chose. "We wanted to agree on which of the candidates would be the best for all of the students and fell this would be a more effective way to choose a candidate, instead of merely filling out an evaluation," McCune said. "The director will be directly involved in many organizations and others will need her on an ad-hoc basis." From this meeting, McCune drafted a letter recommending the candidate the students have chosen. The letter will be sent to Frost, Kristen Gray, more STUDENTS on 2

His training began more than a year ago, as he began taking education classes with other students at Hope. "I was tired of doing what I was doing. I wanted something new and different," Fiedler said. "I had been working with kids for several years through Big Brother and other volunteering.
