In t h e f i r s t of a s e r i e s of w e e k l y i n t e r v i e w s o v e r WTAS, t h e college president said that although Hope's tuition is still r e l a t i v e l y low in comparison with o t h e r p r i v a t e schools, he believes t h e r a t e s h a v e r e a c h e d the limit at w h i c h s t u d e n t s a r e able to pay.
Since t h e b o a r d of t r u s t e e s h a s t h e u l t i m a t e a n d o f f i c i a l w o r d on t h e college tuition r a t e s , D r . VanderWerf said that at the board m e e t i n g l a t e r this m o n t h he would p u t all his s u p p o r t b e h i n d a reco m m e n d a t i o n t h a t t h e r e be no tuition i n c r e a s e n e x t y e a r . The president explained, "We c a n n o t i n c r e a s e t h e cost of tuition n e x t y e a r without s u b s t a n t i a l l y a n d s i g n i f i c a n t l y c h a n g i n g the c h a r -
a c t e r of Hope College, t h e c h a r a c t e r t h a t it h a s held for t h e p a s t century. "We understand that for m a n y f a m i l i e s it is a s a c r i f i c e to s e n d s o n s and d a u g h t e r s to Hope College, even at the p r e s e n t t u i t i o n r a t e , " he a d d e d . San Francisco Ballet First On Concert Series Slate A g r o u p of d a n c e r s e n t i t l e d Ballet '64 will p r e s e n t t h e f i r s t perf o r m a n c e in this y e a r ' s c o m m u n i t y c o n c e r t s e r i e s W e d n e s d a y , at 8:15 p . m . in t h e Civic C e n t e r .
Ballet '64 is c o m p o s e d of 12 dancers drawn f r o m the personnel of the San F r a n c i s c o Ballet. T h e g r o u p b e g a n five s e a s o n s ago in t h e s u m m e r of 1960, a s a " s u m m e r s t o c k " for b a l l e t with t h e idea of t r y i n g s o m e n e w w o r k s . M a n y of the selections were choreographed by the d a n c e r s t h e m s e l v e s . P r e s e n t l y , B a l l e t '64 h a s its own t h e a t e r for s u m m e r p e r f o r m a n c e s . D u r i n g the r e m a i n d e r of t h e y e a r the group tours the nation. Ballet '64's p r o g r a m is a blend of f a c e t s of t h e c l a s s i c a l s t y l e d a n c e a n d a s a m p l i n g of c o n t e m p o r a r y w o r k s .
