C o n s t r u c t i o n , w h i c h b e g a n this p a s t June and was completed l a s t month ^ was made possible through a pledge from Central R e f o r m e d C h u r c h of G r a n d Rap i d s f o r a t o t a l of $ 5 0 0 , 0 0 0 to b e paid over a ten-year period. 'Church History' Reveals: Peters Teaching Again " D r . " R o b e r t P e t e r s isn't d e a d ; h e ' s a l i v e a n d t e a c h i n g at N o r t h w e s t e r n P o l y t e c h n i c Institute in London, England. T h i s latest e p i s o d e in the d i v e r sified life of t h e f o r m e r H o p e Coll e g e f a c u l t y m e m b e r c a m e to light t h i s week w h e n t h e S e p t e m b e r i s s u e of p r e s t i g i o u s " C h u r c h H i s t o r y " m a g a z i n e reached the Hope campus. This periodical, described a s " t h e l e a d i n g j o u r n a l in c h u r c h h i s t o r y " b y Dr. D a v i d C l a r k , b o a s t e d a n article titled " E r a s m u s a n d the F a t h e r s : Their Practical V a l u e " b y n o n e o t h e r t h a n Robert Peters. T h e b y l i n e on the article carried a description of Peters a s a "lecturer in h i s t o r y " at N o r t h w e s tern Polytechnic. T h e p u b l i c a t i o n of the A m e r i c a n Society of Church H i s t o r y m a d e n o m e n t i o n of a n y d e g r e e s p o s s e s s e d b y the Reform a t i o n historian, w h o w a s arrested, e x p o s e d a s a fraud a n d

d e p o r t e d f r o m the United States last semester. W h e n a n O x f o r d f r i e n d of Dr. W a r r e n V a n d e r Hill w a s q u e s tioned a b o u t N o r t h w e s t e r n Polytechnic, he d e s c r i b e d it a s " k i n d of like y o u r F e r r i s S t a t e C o l l e g e . " Dr. V a n d e r Hill n o t e d , h o w e v e r , t h a t t h e fact t h a t his w o r k w a s selected f o r " C h u r c h H i s t o r y " p r o v e d t h e q u a l i t y of his s c h o l a r ship. T h e published article w a s selected f r o m a g r e a t m a n y p o s s i ble w o r k s of l e a d i n g s c h o l a r s in t h e field. T h e p u b l i s h e d article o n E r a s m u s in itself o f f e r s i m p r e s s i v e evid e n c e t h a t " D r . " Peters k n e w his d i s c i p l i n e , e v e n if he n e v e r e a r n ed t h e s e v e n f o r m a l d e g r e e s he f r a u d u l e n t l y c l a i m e d to p o s s e s s last y e a r .
