Increased Budget May Raise Tuition $100 Next Year H o p e C o l l e g e s t u d e n t s face the p o s s i b i l i t y of at least a $ 1 0 0 hike in tuition costs f o r the next a c a d e m i c y e a r , s a i d H e n r y Steffens, Vice President - F i n a n c e , this week. T h i s w o u l d b r i n g tuition, r o o m a n d b o a r d to a new h i g h of $ 1 , 9 0 0 next y e a r . P r e s e n t l y the B o a r d of T r u s tees is v o t i n g b y mail o n the p r o p o s a l , a n d the results of the b a l l o t i n g s h o u l d be k n o w n b y J a n u a r y o r F e b r u a r y , s a i d Mr. Steffens. He stated that the reas o n for the p o s s i b i l i t y of a tuition i n c r e a s e is b a s e d o n r i s i n g costs. T H K C O L L E G E anticipates a five p e r cent i n c r e a s e in the b u d g e t for next y e a r , a n d Mr. Steffens e s t i m a t e d t h a t this w o u l d b r i n g the b u d g e t to a r e c o r d h i g h of $ 3 . 8 million. A tuition i n c r e a s e w a s seen a s the a n s w e r to the r i s i n g c o s t s s a i d Mr. Steffens, b e c a u s e a priv a t e college s u c h as H o p e m u s t l o o k to its s t u d e n t s f o r its g r e a t est s o u r c e of i n c o m e . At H o p e , he s a i d , a s t u d e n t s h o u l d e r s 808 5 p e r cent of the e d u c a t i o n a l cost, while at s t a t e s c h o o l s a student p a y s o n l y 3 5 - 4 0 p e r cent of the cost.

Lout it Foundation Gives Hope $25,000 Grant I he Loutit F o u n d a t i o n of Grand Haven has m a d e a grant of $ 2 5 , 0 0 0 to H o p e C o l l e g e to be used f o r a n y c a p i t a l i m p r o v e ment project the college c h o o s e s , a c c o r d i n g to President C a l v i n V a n d e r Werf. T h e g r a n t will be u s e d in the c o l l e g e ' s new t e n - y e a r campus expansion program. I n c o r p o r a t e d in 1 9 5 7 , the Loutit I* o u n d a t i o n c o n c e r n s itself prim a r i l y with p r o g r a m s a n d p r o jects related to the w e l f a r e of the citizens of M i c h i g a n , especially through organizations engaged in c h a r i t a b l e , h e a l t h , e d u c a t i o n a l , r e l i g i o u s a n d c o m m u n i t y activities.
