It's that t i m e of year again: snowflakes are falling, Eighth Street is glowing with C h r i s t m a s lights a n d e x a m s and p a p e r s a r e taking over. College s t u d e n t s a r e busiest d u r i n g this t i m e of year, but taking s o m e t i m e o u t f r o m o u r studies to help those in need can b e a great stress reliever. Despite its seemingly commercial quality, the C h r i s t m a s season r e m a i n s t h e season of giving. H o p e s t u d e n t s are a t t e m p t i n g t o live o u t t h a t quality by helping those in n e e d t h r o u g h d o n a t i o n s and prayer. Many Hope students participated in a service effort called Operation Christmas Child. Beginning as early as October, t h e C a m p u s M i n i s t r y team distributed shoeboxes at various c a m p u s locations. Participants t h e n had until Nov. 22 t o fill t h e boxes with small toys, toiletries, school supplies a n d personal notes. The boxes

First established in t h e 1940s, Theta G a m m a Pi w a s a sorority f o u n d e d o n multicultural principles. The Theta G a m m a Pi sorority, informally k n o w n as t h e "Thetas" had 29 active m e m b e r s to start off with. However, t h e Thetas were a presence o n Hope's c a m p u s for less t h a n 15 years. In t h e early winter of 2009, a g r o u p of Latina s t u d e n t s along with t h e help of Professor Melissa Villarreal, met with t h e Direct o r of S t u d e n t Life Ellen Awad to discuss t h e o p t i o n s of bringing back this f o r m e r national Latina sorority. Students w a n t e d t o bring Theta G a m m a Pi back into action in an effort t o fulfill t h e n e e d s for those s t u d e n t s w h o c o m e f r o m colorful b a c k g r o u n d s , establishing t h e sorority t o f o c u s o n multiculturalism and diversity, in contrast t o t h e national Latina sorority of the past. After m u c h discussion and approval by t h e C a m p u s Life Board, it was decided that Theta G a m m a Pi was to r e t u r n t o Hope's c a m p u s as a local soror-
