Every beach, in its natural form, is a piece of art, and we tend to forget it too often, spoiling so many of them. The beaches in Liberia are still relatively pristine, mainly because of the general underdevelopment: there are few cities on the coast, almost no industries and almost no tourism. Pollution comes in the form of garbage produced locally and garbage brought on the shores by the Atlantic Ocean, mostly plastic. Goodwill and good ideas could easily give Liberia a better environment as well as a positive visibility. To stimulate thoughts and actions in this direction, I am pleased to share the beauty I find on a daily basis when I have the luck to live on a Liberian beach, where I find so much inspiration. Certain forms of Beach Art are ready-made: the shape of the sand, the position of an object, the intricacies of driftwood... Others, when assembled, also become shapes which might recall memories or simply inspire pure contemplation. Enjoy these photographs of casual combinations, installations and sculptures made with both natural artificial stuff ound on the Liberian beaches between 2014 and 2018.
