THE WISHING CHAIR

01

NISARGA (RESIDENTIAL DESIGN)

Coming from the concept of a tree house, the residence revolves around a tree and gives a essence of the connection with nature. The design is based on abstract angles, making the residence a complete interactive discovery from the outside and inside implementing a surprise element at every angle and turn. The effect of the courtyard and the connection between the spaces to the outside makes the experience even more interesting.

THE WISHING CHAIR

03

Retail design (SEM IV)

• •

The concept for the retail store is derived from the animated series of the book “The Wishing Chair” by Enid Blyton, on which the brand is based. The goal is to re-create a few elements from the book and incorporate them into a make believe, whimsical ‘Streets of London’,and get the customers to reminisce their childhood.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

The molding is adopted from the series to enhance the whimsical aesthetic.

• Two different kinds of flooring is used in the retail space to create an illusion of a street. The Kitchen & dining merchandise shelf has pastel coloured stripes as backdrop to imitate one of the elements from the series.

• Inter-lockable tiles with cobblestone like appearance are used for the aisles.

ASARE

A kiosk to merchandise the handicrafts made by the people of ‘Asare”, a home for the specially abled.

LIVE PROJECT – KIOSK DESIGN • •

Asare “ in kannada translates to shelter or support. The concept of kiosk vaguely resembles a home or shelter. The structure is made out of Bamboo, which abundantly available in the coastal Karnataka region. The structure is proposed to be built with locally available natural materials, with the usage of local building techniques.

MATERIAL SELECTION – Bamboo, Straw, Wicker, Rope, etc

MISCELLANEOUS (Landscape design)

The landscape design is for a Montessori institution, for the children of age ranging between 2-6

The concept for the landscape design of the Montessori school is a contemporary adaptation of the curvaceous forms and elements of a beach.

DAY VIEW

SITE PLAN

Softscape : • Beautiful flowering shrubs and plants like Roses, Asteraceae, etc. for the borders. • Climbers like Convolvulaceae, falling ivy has been added onto the length of the compound wall.

NIGHT VIEW

MISCELLANEOUS (STORE FAÇADE DESIGN) • •

The proposed store front design is for the brand ‘Chumbak’. The principle of the brand is to ‘make happy’ and the quintessential element of the brand is the vibrant blend of bright colors.

The bright chevron pattern is another key feature of the brand, and is used as the background for the signage.

The owl is very elemental to the concept of the brand. Hence, the projection of the same is the key feature of the storefront.

The brick cladding used at the entrance, and the textured wood cladding used at the window display neutralizes the bright pops of colour of the rest of the design.
