K-10 AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Proposed city: Mumbai
K-10 is a proposed affordable housing project with residences specially designed for the economically weaker section and lower income group,who are looking for the same comfort and security of a self owned property/home that the more fortunate middle-class enjoys. Mumbai with the population of over 20 million was selected as the ideal city for the project, with 11 areas being selected and each area having eight location making the total number of locations 88. Each location - 20 towers,6400 units. Total number of units - 5,60,600.

Prefabricated prefinished volumetric construction (PPVC): was the method of construction to be used . PPVC means a construction method whereby freestanding volumetric modules (complete with finishes for walls, floors and ceilings) are: 1. Constructed and assembled 2. Manufactured and assembled in an accredited fabrication facility It can potentially achieve a productivity improvement of up to 40% in terms of manpower and time savings, depending on the complexity of the projects. Dust and noise pollution can be minimised as more activities are done off-site. With the bulk of the installation activities and manpower moved off-site to a factory controlled environment, site safety will also improve .

Today Kerala is the premier state in India engaged in conserving, preserving and practicing of Ayurveda in its classical form. Keeping in view the increasing global acceptance of traditional systems of medicine, the role of Ayurveda for total health care is highly significant. The establishment of International research institute of ayurveda (IRIA) was proposed with an intent of an integrative approach through Central-State partnership, linking with national and global network. eco The IRIA is of crucial importance for the economic growth and health security of Kerala and India as well as to make Ayurveda updated with scientific input and made available to the ailing humanity of other countries. No other state in the country has ever embarked on a project of this magnitude. The creation of IRIA will be highly beneficial to the patients, ayurveayurve dic doctors/scholars, researchers alike and it add to the prestige of our nation

The Masterplan is inspired from traditional pond in kannur temples and kerala houses and its pleasing achitecture style. The campus is developed keeping in mind that “innovative inventions comes through interactions�, thus it provides tremondous oppurtunities to its users to interact in the form of courtyard and green spaces. The central kund serves as a major interaction space. Each cluster has four buildings with nalukettu (courtyard) in the centre with pond. all buildings and landscaped spaces are linear reflecting the strong kerala style architecture

KEY PLANNING PRINCIPLES( DEVELOPMENT OF VISION FOR THE PROJECT): Identification of key planning principles based on the inferinfer ences & the terms of reference. The key planning principles would be based around the principles of Ayurveda, its geographical location (Kerala) and the futuristic to be a trendsetter for the new age architecture that integrates the traditional architecture, the local climate, building materials and ecology. INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT WITH SEAMLESS CONNECTIVITY To design & develop a sustainable integrated development wherein the limited land uses such as institutional, research & residential and industrial (future) harmoniously merge. Within this development seamless connectivity is achieved through the development of an efficient infrastructure that facilitates effective flow of goods and services as well as people.

Basic reasearch Ageing Cancer - In view of Kerala’s demography and epidemiology, these divisions will aim to do basic research in the problems relating to ageing and cancer: attract grants; publish papers in top journals, produce Fellows of Science and academics, and make discoveries which may give new insights and remedies. To get a traveller from curb to their gate we rely on subtle design cues and human psychology to influence their behavior; hence, the offering of retail and leisure spaces, has to do with sophistication of the user. Travelers, while in the processing and path of reaching their gate, they are drawn towards spaces designed to stimulate buying. Including warm colors and lights – circadian solutions – and clear paths – so called “laser-like focus”, will decrease the levels of anxiety vand induce consumers to buy.

The proposed design includes simple, although sophisticated, spatial elements, with curved lines and soft corners; very clear pathways, which create perspectives, over a concentric focus point, offering constant movement that leads to the consumer goods.

All the proposed spaces will have design features which relate to each other concentric plans and circular elements, which erupt from the floor and the ceiling The color scheme not only creates a soothing environment, but also, the clean soft lines of the displays, enhances the products and its ads; the walls will be displaying products and will produce feature walls as outstanding design elements.

REVIVAL OF HUMANITY
Who is a Transgender? a man who wears a saree? or a female who feels trapped in a man’s body? Well its both and more.There cant be just one definition for a Transgender as the condition can be a result of biological,harmonal,psychological.genetic,environmental or just a delusional factor.Hence the bottom line sounds as philosophical as scientific,a persons’s gender is what the person chooses, in other words no doctor or government can decide a person’s gender. We see a pattern of violence directed towards people just because they are transgender. There is a widespread bias at schools, workplace, hospitals etc. In most of the cases their own family members disown them as soon as their true gender identity is revealed leading to a high rate of illiteracy in the community.They have limited access to healthcare services,education and livelyhood oppurtunities. Hence they form a community and live on the fringes of society.Due to lack of education and job oppurtunities they resort to begging, extortion, prostitution,singing and dancing at weddings and functions.
Aim of the intervention: - To provide a platform for the community to prove to the society that they are capable of providng quality work and to help them reclaim respectable status in the society like in the ancient times. - To open the gates of job opportunity. - To create a space that binds society together and helps promote an inclusive atmosphere.

O REPRESENT THE STRUGGLE OF THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY, THE METAPHOR OF "FROM DARKNESS TO THE LIGHT" IS USED. RIGIDITY ON THE EXTERIOR MASSING IS BALANCED WITH A FLUIDIC AND SOFTENED CORE ON THE INSIDE. NARROW OPENINGS WHICH LEAD TO ACTIVITY GENERATORS SHALL REPRESENT THE FREEDOM OF THE COMMUNITY

After an intense research and spending time with the community to understand their struggle and lifestyle and their needs, i arrived at a solution in the form of building programmes that:

- Provide Vocational training facilities and employement oppurtunities to the transgender community - creates public awareness about the transgender community and erases the social stigma. - that bridges the gap between the society and the transgender community.brings in a sense of security to the community.

Building form evolved from basic geometric shapes representing gendersStraight lines representing male form and curves representing the female form .
Merging of the two forms representing the rigid and the soft curves used as a metaphor for the unity of genders.(Gender equality)

“My role as an architect in this project is to envisage a centre that most conduvtively tackles the problems of the stigmatised group of the society and bringing them to the mainstream”. “I believe it is the role of an architect to visualize the kind of spaces and functions, zoning of the complex that go hand in hand to pull together a downtrodden decor of the society”.
Materials like exposed concrete and old wood and pale colours are used for the base structure as a reminder of the hard struggles faced by the community along with contrasting bright pop colours added to it ,representing the fight for a bright colourful future.

Museum of transgender history and art gallery
This program is to create awareness and to educate the youth and the people about the history and lives of the transgender community. The museum was designed to give the visitors a tour of the history and lifestyle of the transgender and also to display their talent in the field of arts.

So the museum is designed in such a way, the vistors are made to visit the “ MUSEUM OF TRANSGENDER HISTORY” first, which is located in the basement and is designed to make the visitors experience the struggle and hardships in the lives of transgender people, the basement is designed to be a dark and a dingy place with uneven flooring with only minimum sufficient light allowed through lightwells and skylight to see the display. After experiencing the History of transgender gallery, the visitors are led to the ground floor open display area , showing the transition from suppression to freedom (Darkness to light)

- Short stay home is provided for the transgender persons assisiting to run the programmes and the visiting transgenders from other places for various training purposes and events held on site. - The ground floor consists of common dining area and an outdoor garden to cultivate vegetables and crops that can be used for cooking. The aim is to develop a sense of responsibility amongst the community members.

- The first floor and Third floor have identical floor plans consisting of two 6 bed dormitories with balcony spaces each. - The second and fourth floors consist of single rooms and 3 beds sharing rooms . - Each floor is provided with common gathering spaces for interaction among the residents.

Towers of equality: Three monumental towers are placed at the central plaza , with translucent material bearing the colours of the international transgender flag as a symbol of equality among all three genders. Also serving as sunshade .
Central open plaza acts as a buffer space between the transgender explusive spaces and public spaces acting as interaction space and also host for massive festivities and parades.
