The program for this exercise was a boat boarding station for the crossing of Douro River in Massarelos (Porto) made exclusively by spatial modules with the dimensions of 3x3x3 meters. The choice of the placement for this equipment was essential (not just at a functional level but also for its visual presence in the urban landscape) and was the first one to but collocated. The option for an old platform place (still existing but inactive) would allow us to take advantage of an existing tunnel under the street and give it a new utilization. On the same time, not being bad localized in its relationship with the

city, the existing platform is already a part of the experience of it, being nowadays a place for being, fishing and seeing the river. The issue of the entering way is essential in the project. We looked for developing the transition from the land to the water. There are three entrance levels. The inferior level allows us to access directly to the ticket clerk and to the boat. It searches to serve a quick and rushed access to the ships. The middle level, witch is at the tunnel level, has a bar and an exterior space for it. It looks for serving those who are less hurried and even those who don’t

want to use the boat but just take a coffee. The access for those who come from the tunnel is covered, allowing a gradual passage from darkness to light and creating simultaneously a third access level. This third level serves as a substitution to the referred activities happening in the existing platform. This work was developed in the scales 1:1000 for the implantation and 1:100 for the building, presented in ink on tracing paper drawings and in traditional study and final models.
