Bell waves Vasileios Filippou Brass dectet 2014 7 minutes
Program notes: Inspired by the theme of ‘A song for all seas, all ships’ and ‘Bell wave’ a recent piece I composed for saxophone quartet, violin and piano, this piece is a continuation of the poly-thematic exploration as a compositional approach that I am currently interested in. Each section of ‘Bell waves’ is closely
connected with a particular framework of musical materials that I have chosen, linking the work into a narrative; although as the piece moves on, new themes come to the surface provoking the sense of autonomy of sound, as if the music is been constantly shifting. In the last moments of the piece harmonic material that in a way has been avoided for 7 minutes, has now become “isolated and drifted by the wave, before they even touch the sea”.
