The plane of return was composed after a poem I wrote while flying back to the UK from Cyprus in 2015. The title refers not only to the action of leaving one place to go to another but also the illusion of returning to a state of mind/feelings (in Greek: πλάνη, which means fallacy). Through this work I am exploring the relationship between clarity and density, foreground and background all structured by harmonic movement. The piece is dedicated to my mother and is been revised in 2019.
“ I’m in that plane again...the plane of return.
This same plane of memory collection.
A plane that is wandering around, searching for home to land. Sitting in that same seat waving at the sun
that shines on the bird
which takes me and myself once more, alone in the skies. "
