@ the Board Greetings from Michael McKenzie Chair, Vaughan Public Library Board Enrich Inspire Transform is the new vision for Vaughan Public Libraries that was formulated and approved by the Library Board. This vision is meant to point the direction where Vaughan Public Libraries is going. Our Strategic Plan entitled Empower People, Inspire Opportunities, Build Community, 2012-2015, which will be available in the libraries and on the library's website this fall, explains how we plan to achieve our vision and position VPL for continued success serving the citizens of Vaughan. However, as you will see in this guide, our exceptional staff is not waiting until 2012 to bring exceptional new services to the City of Vaughan. Through the creative redeployment of staff, starting in September we will be opening the Maple Library on Fridays. To celebrate Small Business Week in October, VPL will be partnering with VBEC (Vaughan Business Enterprise Centre) to host three programs - Tax Tips at Ansley Grove Library, Introduction to Entrepreneurship at Bathurst Clark Resource Library and Marketing Using Social Media at Pierre Berton Resource Library. This fall our Reading Buddies program will be extended at Pierre Berton Resource Library to offer the program in French. During Reading Buddies, struggling readers are matched up with a qualified volunteer for weekly reading practice and to share the fun of reading. Outside our community we have endorsed a plan where books that we are unable to sell and would normally recycle are now being used to support a charitable organization in Haiti. I hope that you will find many exciting programs enclosed and we look forward to seeing you @ the Library. Regards, Michael
