Welcome
Greetings from
Devender Sandhu Chair, Vaughan Public Library Board
Welcome to What’sOn at the Library. There’s lots of excitement at Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) as we head into fall! Mark September 10th on your calendar as the Vaughan Public Library Board invites you to attend the Grand Opening Celebration of the Civic Centre Resource Library! The day’s activities kick off with an official ceremony at 11 am, followed by family entertainment and refreshments from 12:30 to 4 pm. There will be non-stop storytimes including award-winning Kids’ CBC host Patty, and everybody’s favourite, Bookaboo! Roald Dahl’s beloved novel Matilda will come to life in a special reading, and you and your family will have a chance to win tickets to attend a performance of MATILDA THE MUSICAL at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre. Join us for live music, give-a-ways, prizes and exciting demonstrations at our newly opened Create It! space.
Creative entrepreneurs, artists and musicians will love the lab that features three distinct creation spaces with semi-professional equipment: a design space that offers 3D printers and a workstation equipped with creative software; a green room with photography and videography equipment; and a VPL unique innovative music/control room, containing music production equipment, software and musical instruments. Come and tour this magnificent, futuristic 36,000 sq. ft. resource library located at the corner of Major Mackenzie Drive and Keele Street on the City Hall Campus. Drop by and explore all its fantastic features and services including a second floor patio, a reading garden and electric vehicle charging stations! That’s not the only celebration coming up at VPL. Dust off your bell-bottoms and plan to join us, at Retrofest, to commemorate Kleinburg Library’s 50th birthday November 5 at 1 pm. Speaking of planning, it continues on with VPL’s Vellore Village South Library expected to open in late 2017. Architect renderings of the library that will be attached to the existing community centre are available on VPL’s Building Projects Blog at www.vaughanpl.info/building. There’s so much more happening at VPL. This What’s On is full of a variety of programs and events for the fall that will Enrich, Inspire and Transform your life.
