ARtIStS • PhOtOGRAPhERS • wRItERS • VIdEOGRAPhERS Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) celebrated the VPL Teen Awards honouring the Early Harvest Competition winners, the Top Readers from the Teen Summer Reading Challenge and VPL’s teen volunteers, October 20, 2010, at The City Playhouse Theatre. All teens were presented with a certificate for their achievements and the 27 Early Harvest award winners were presented with cash prizes of up to $100 for their creative accomplishments in the categories of writing, photography, videography, painting and sketching. This year’s awards reception featured entertainment by 12-year old Canadian pop artist Alyssa Rubino. Alyssa and her dance crew kicked off the awards ceremony with an energetic and enjoyable performance! The Early Harvest magazine features the award-winning artwork and is available throughout all seven branches of VPL. Watch for news on Early Harvest 2011 at your local library and at www.vaughanpl.info. Entry forms will be available online March 1. Entry deadline is May 12.

Books, DVDs, videos and CDs are all available in many languages to meet the needs of our diverse community. Books are also available in large print and as audio books. Community Library Link is a service to facilitate borrowing for people who are temporarily or permanently homebound.

CD-ROM stations are available for pre-schoolers to learn basic computer and literacy skills. Each library has black and white photocopiers. Meeting Room space is available for rent at all branches of VPL. Select from boardroom style, classroom style or theatre style set up of meeting room facilities. In addition to this available space, the Pierre Berton Resource Library offers Boardroom and Training Suite facilities which support presentations and training sessions. BOARdROOm: The Boardroom seats 18 at the table but the room can accommodate an additional 12 chairs placed around the room. An optional IT package is available which includes an LCD projector, screen and Internet hook-up.
