For ages 7 and up. tAIwAN SuBLImE – PhOtO ExhIBItION May 3 - May 31 The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto will present "Taiwan Sublime" which comprises several series of photographs taken by famous Taiwanese photographers who have crisscrossed Taiwan and its small sister islands with the aim of creating a record of its natural and human wonders. The subjects covered include Taiwan’s festivals, traditional arts, folkways, and elevated visions of natural Taiwan. The photos are all eye-catching, enchanting and intoxicating. ARtIStS • PhOtOGRAPhERS • wRItERS • VIdEOGRAPhERS Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) celebrated the VPL Teen Awards honouring the Early Harvest Competition winners, the Top Readers from the Teen Summer Reading Challenge and VPL’s teen volunteers, October 20, 2010, at The City Playhouse Theatre. All teens were presented with a certificate for their achievements and the 27 Early Harvest award winners were presented with cash prizes of up to $100 for their creative accomplishments in the categories of writing, photography, videography, painting and sketching. This year’s awards reception featured entertainment by 12-year old Canadian pop artist Alyssa Rubino. Alyssa and her dance crew kicked off the awards ceremony with an energetic and enjoyable performance! The Early Harvest magazine features the award-winning artwork and is available throughout all seven branches of VPL. Watch for news on Early Harvest 2011 at your local library and at www.vaughanpl.info. Entry forms will be available online March 1. Entry deadline is May 12.

Whether you apply for your library card in person or online, you will need to bring one of the following to verify your information: • proof of your home address in Vaughan • registration at a school or college in Vaughan, or • proof of employment in Vaughan Children can get their own library cards. If they are 16 years old or under, the parent or guardian is required to sign the child's library card. If you don't qualify for free membership as described above, you can still join VPL. Visitors to VPL You don't have to have a library card to visit branches of Vaughan Public Libraries to consult library staff or use the print collections on site. If you don’t have a card and wish to use the library's electronic resources, please bring with you valid identification, including your address (e.g. your driver's licence). Library Services All branches have materials for reference and loan. The most comprehensive reference collections are held at Bathurst Clark Resource Library and the Pierre Berton Resource Library. Books, DVDs, videos and CDs are all available in many languages to meet the needs of our diverse community. Books are also available in large print and as audio books. Community Library Link is a service to facilitate borrowing for people who are temporarily or permanently homebound.

Vaughan Public Libraries now offers a new and convenient Books by Mail service. For a fee of $6 per shipment, your items will be sent right to your doorstep. Qualified staff are always on site in each library to assist you in your search for information. They are also available to advise on leisure reading or on materials appropriate to your child's reading abilities. Some libraries have study rooms available for groups or individual study and all libraries have meeting rooms available for booking by the public. Pierre Berton Resource Library has both a boardroom and a training suite available for rent. Details of all these services are available from the libraries and on the website. All libraries provide free access to the Internet and to PCs equipped with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Wireless access is available in all libraries. CD-ROM stations are available for pre-schoolers to learn basic computer and literacy skills. Each library has black and white photocopiers. Colour photocopiers are available at the Resource Libraries. Library Services by Phone Telephone service is available at each branch during open hours. Meeting Room space is available for rent at all branches of VPL. Select from boardroom style, classroom style or theatre style set up of meeting room facilities. In addition to this available space, the Pierre Berton Resource Library offers Boardroom and Training Suite facilities which support presentations and training sessions. BOARdROOm: The Boardroom seats 18 at the table but the room can accommodate an additional 12 chairs placed around the room. An optional IT package is available which includes an LCD projector, screen and Internet hook-up. As of May 2, VPL customers will be able to place holds on all Blu-Ray titles available in the catalogue. This means that you can have Blu-Ray titles sent to the library of your choosing for pick-up! Meeting Room space is available for rent at all branches of VPL. Select from boardroom style, classroom style or theatre style set up of meeting room facilities. In addition to this available space, the Pierre Berton Resource Library offers Boardroom and Training Suite facilities which support presentations and training sessions. BOARdROOm: The Boardroom seats 18 at the table but the room can accommodate an additional 12 chairs placed around the room. An optional IT package is available which includes an LCD projector, screen and Internet hook-up. Vaughan Public Libraries now offers a new and convenient Books by Mail service. For a fee of $6 per shipment, your items will be sent right to your doorstep. Qualified staff are always on site in each library to assist you in your search for information. They are also available to advise on leisure reading or on materials appropriate to your child's reading abilities. Some libraries have study rooms available for groups or individual study and all libraries have meeting rooms available for booking by the public. Pierre Berton Resource Library has both a boardroom and a training suite available for rent. Details of all these services are available from the libraries and on the website. All libraries provide free access to the Internet and to PCs equipped with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Wireless access is available in all libraries. CD-ROM stations are available for pre-schoolers to learn basic computer and literacy skills. Each library has black and white photocopiers. Colour photocopiers are available at the Resource Libraries. Library Services by Phone Telephone service is available at each branch during open hours. ARtIStS • PhOtOGRAPhERS • wRItERS • VIdEOGRAPhERS Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) celebrated the VPL Teen Awards honouring the Early Harvest Competition winners, the Top Readers from the Teen Summer Reading Challenge and VPL’s teen volunteers, October 20, 2010, at The City Playhouse Theatre. All teens were presented with a certificate for their achievements and the 27 Early Harvest award winners were presented with cash prizes of up to $100 for their creative accomplishments in the categories of writing, photography, videography, painting and sketching. This year’s awards reception featured entertainment by 12-year old Canadian pop artist Alyssa Rubino. Alyssa and her dance crew kicked off the awards ceremony with an energetic and enjoyable performance! The Early Harvest magazine features the award-winning artwork and is available throughout all seven branches of VPL. Watch for news on Early Harvest 2011 at your local library and at www.vaughanpl.info. Entry forms will be available online March 1. Entry deadline is May 12.
