Greetings from

Michael McKenzie

Chair, Vaughan Public Library Board

In the 2013 budget, Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) was awarded the funds to repair the aging infrastructure of Kleinburg Library due to concerns with the 1967 original windows and outdated heating and air conditioning. The VPL Board has taken this opportunity to enhance the design, ambience and functionality of the building while increasing energy efficiency and accessibility. Kleinburg Library’s renovation design will result in the removal of a portion of the stone on the western wall and replacement with large western facing windows. Increased accessibility will be achieved with an additional handicapped parking space and a ramp to the lower level community meeting room. An exterior reading garden with accessible wi-fi will be added on the south and east sides of the building. The interior climate will be regulated by a new energy efficient HVAC system. Conversion to energy efficient lighting and the removal of electric baseboard heaters will further increase energy efficiency. The deteriorating emergency exit on the northern exposure from the second floor will be replaced and the parking lot will be expanded. We look forward to the completion of this renovation project in line with our mission to offer welcoming destinations that educate, excite and empower our community.
