My site is located on Washtenaw, in Highland Park. The high school is across the street and a decommissioned railway stretches over the street to connect the high school to the new library. Multiple entrances are important to engage both the high school students and the people who drive in from around Highland Park. The glass allows the exterior green to invigorate the space and allows a connection to the exterior space. I employed a green roof to help cooling needs, and help engage the exterior space. Completed April 2011.

DIA Expansion I worked on abandoned high rises that are very visible from I-75 on the way into Detroit. I had two main aims in this project, It allows for an incredibly visible sign of Detroit working on its self while also bringing in money and people from out side Detroit. The lower levels as well as the housing element serve the movie program, The subsidization from Michigan’s government for movies has brought in a number of large Hollywood productions, and this project gave them the space to shot as well as allowing them to stay together and near their locations. The upper levels of the addition are used as a community center and out reach program by the DIA. The money brought in by the film industry would help the local program to further art in Michigan.

This was a partner project completed my senior year. This was a week long assignment that asked us to draw an exterior wall and staircase section in axonometric. This project was created in Rhino, with finishing touches done in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Original size two 32x40 pages.

Construction Sections in Axonometric

The Divorce House

In this project I used the language of builder homes to explore the possible impact of divorce on architecture. This house begins its life as a normal single family home with attached in-law suite. At this point the in-law suite can function as a completely separate apartment, and does not require any shared spaces. In the case of a divorce one of the parents could move into in-law suite and reconfigure the house slightly to accommodate the needs of every one involved. The pieces that need to change are built into the house in a way that allows them to change to avoid a costly renovation. Three of the configuration possibilities are shown in diagrams. In the plans the original condition was printed on a base layer, and the divorce situation showing all possible changes was over-layed printed on mylar allowing for easy comparison of the two. The construction details used to make those moments work are shown in exploded axonimetric drawings. Interior renderings show those moments in action. The imagery was specifically hyper-saturated and hyper-realistic to remind the viewer of American dream imagery. This imagery and general concept was specifically chosen to highlight the dichotomy of the American dream and the current divorce statistics in America, and evoke a response in viewers to encourage them to further investigate the project and think about how even the most mundane architectural forms have the potential to address social issues. This project was completed over six weeks for Wallenburg (thesis) studio senior year at University of Michigan. Materials presented include a variety of technical drawings, renderings, and diagrams. Also included in the presentation but not shown are a split doll house sized model and a couple finishing touches. This project was developed between Rhino, V-ray, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Graphic design and vector work

I am fluent with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign. The illustration to the left was done with vectors in Illustrator drawn from the picture above. Many of the other images in this portfolio were created between V-ray, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Photography At University of Michigan I took multiple photography classes, and continue to build on those skills every chance I get. Spending time taking and editing photos has built up my rendering and editing skills.
