Sarvatobhadra- IAG Contemporary Houses by Indian Architects Vol. III

Page 1

OVERVIEW Sarvatobhadra means ‘auspiciousness in entirety. It is a residence of a renowned industrialist, Jain by religion, the client lives with his family in a small town of Rajasthan. Besides being industrialists, the family also works for the town’s people and endures a relation of deep faith and trust with them. They wanted their values reflected in the residence, bringing in an element of culture and tradition to the design. The east facing villa is surrounded by four adjacent roads, with a setback inside its ambit that supports Parikrama. Natural elements and intelligent details help it cool down in the heat and create a buffer from the outside noise and pollution. Coated in light hues, it has long robust pillars to create needful buffer space and thin aluminium screen between them to act as veil or blind for the first-floor rooms. Intricate plaster relief work gleams beneath the screen. The main gate paves way to two entrance doors, falling on adjacent paths, one leading to drawing room, while other to the living space. The architects took the clients’ suggestions to heart, designing the residence to bring out a feel-good and comfortable space for the clients where they feel inspired, connected and enjoy a sense of completeness.

CONCEPTUAL DETAILS

Art plays an important role in the interiors with elements borrowed from traditional Rajasthani art and architecture.

Moving out to the lobby, we reach the living area, which further opens up to different spaces. The drawing room is designed is designed to invite the guests into an ambience of warmth by way of squishy pink sofas, carpet, chandelier lights, wooden pillars and a palace painting. 233

The Dining Room features a wooden base dining table with onyx top and custom-made green chairs. One of the walls embraces Vanaspati artwork which exhibits a majestic human figure surrounded with Vanaspatis, and a Shloka from Jainism. The Master Bedroom is conceptualized to drive an energy that softly conveys regard to the client, celebrates his headship’s glory and above all inspires him to give back to his people. Custom-made four poster bed, bedside tables, chairs, lamps and lights, also contribute in twining the elegance. Besides, an artwork shaped as Kilangi on the bed back panel confer a thoughtful symbolization of the prestige. Attached to the room is the dressing and bath carrying the same grace.

GREEN BUFFER

The site is on the MAIN HIGHWAY, thus the residence required a BUFFER from the OUTSIDE NOISE, a VISUAL BARRIER and PROTECTION from POLLUTED AIR. The aesthetic design incorporated double height columns in the facade which also created the required buffer space for the residence. This space on the ground acts as a PLANTATION BAY and also holds space for the WATER BODIES. TERRACE GARDENS provide high THERMAL INSULATION
