VOG Report

Regretfully, we have accepted Owen Genet’s resignation as our Branch Librarian. Owen (and Kay Shaskey, as his assistant) took over the position from Trevor Lightfoot in August 1979 and has given 42 years of loyal service to the Branch in this capacity. He is always happy to give members assistance and knows the library set-out by heart enabling him to point us in the right direction for our reading or research. Cataloguing and sorting magazines or books as well as all the important tasks that the extensive library that the Branch enjoys, has been an ongoing task for him and Kay. He would have seen many changes in the library over these years (the most obvious one is computerizing all the books and records held) and his quiet friendly involvement in this vital part of our Branch will be greatly missed. His late wife Connie also worked hard in the library background and was responsible for binding the old Hubs so that they can be easily accessed. Thank you Owen for all the unsung valuable work you have given the Branch over all these years. Over Show Weekend, the Garden City Rodders Group used our branch facilities (through our branch member John Ackroyd) for their 50th anniversary celebrations. Our thanks for overseeing the weekend to Rod Thrower, Colin Hey and Gill Stevenson, as well as the group of Gill’s hardworking motorcyclist friends who supported her in the bar for the weekend. See Gill’s report elsewhere. The Branch committee and I continue to monitor the COVID-19 requirements in order to give a Duty of Care to our members. Thank you to all of you who have had your two vaccinations, are sanitizing your hands frequently and wear your mask (when appropriate) to keep your fellow members, our families and of course yourself as safe as possible. I wish you and yours all the very best over the Festive Season.
