OTTO’S COFFEE
from Welcome Book
by Valerie Nani
First Floor
The Viennese-style coffee shop at The Adolphus is named after Otto Schubert, who served as the general manager from 1922 to 1946 and played a vital role in the hotel's national prominence. Before Otto's, The Rodeo Bar occupied the same space. In 1934, when there was a vote on liquor by the drink, the hotel staff wanted to present the first bar. Overnight, they transformed the coffee shop into a cocktail lounge, complete with bar glasses and counters. However, when the vote didn't pass, they quickly restored the space back to a coffee shop to resume normal operations. It is also home to one of LydiaÊs favorite breakfast sandwiches!
