This month was very hectic, but also a big challenge for the board. For the first time in our term, we headed out to our community to raise money for a cause. We thought it was a great opportunity for us to bond, but also help the Philippines who are going through a great disaster. With all of our board and a few members we made posters and brought baked goods to sell. One of most supportive member was Leis Legita (’15), she is outgoing and isn’t afraid of rejection. She brought her optimism and spirit along. It was great having Legita because she would walk around with posters asking for donations. Each time Legita came around with her basket of donation, she made more than the table sold. She really deserves
the superstar title. Through this project, I felt like I got to know everyone a lot more. I learned more about them not as my peer, but as a friend. A lot has changed ever since we began our term. In general it was really confusing and frightening for me. However, I’m now more comfortable. Even the meetings we hold, I feel like I have it under control. I am still nervous, but I feel like I have gotten better! Also, thank you to Jon Park (’15) for always standing next to me during meetings! It’s nice to have the moral support. I would really like to thank the officers for doing such great job this term. I don’t think I would have been able accomplish what I wanted to without them.

ABOUT THE
bake sale
from the officers
Our lovely Village Christian Key Club went to Jason Choi's (Secretary) MANSION and baked home made goodies for the relief fund for the Philippines. By the great kindness of Jason's oven, we were able to bake 30 different items, all of which were baked to perfection. The following day, our Key Club team, and many others, met at the Coffee Bean in Montrose. We sold all our items and made about $200. This was a great accomplishment because our goal was to make $200-$300. The money was all donated to the relief fund for the Philippines.

Basically, the bake sale was a 5 hour long service activity Village Christian Key clubbers partook in to raise awareness about typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, and to raise money to aid its victims. Although the weather was a bit brisk, our key clubbers valiantly defied the cold, courageously going up to strangers and asking them if they would like to support the typhoon victims in the Philippines through the purchase of a brownie, cookie, and many other pastries we had cooked. I really enjoyed this bake sale because many key clubbers showed up, and it served as a wonderful bonding experience, and I hope to see more key clubbers in future events.

On Saturday, November 23rd, our key club had a bake sale as a fundraiser for the super typhoon that hit Philippines. Personally when we were making the things that we were planning to sell, and on the day of the bake sale everything seemed really hopeless. I didn’t think that the goods that we made were good enough, and didn’t think anyone would stop in front of us to purchase after few rejections. However as more of our volunteers started showing up, and our group started working in smaller groups more effectively, I could see more and more money going into our donation jar that we had. In the end I think our bake sale went pretty well, and it was a great experience for me as I pushed myself out of my comfort zone to talk to strangers, and advertise the fundraiser that we were doing.

The unfortunate typhoon occurrence in the Philippines this month led the Village Christian Key Club to organize a bake sale in which all of the profit made from it went to the people of the Philippines. This was a very satisfying experience for us because while we were working toward a good cause in helping people in need, we also had a very good time setting up the bake sale. Our Key Club met up at one of our member’s house and baked a variety of foods ranging from cookies to cakes. We set up our shop next to a Coffee Bean shop from 1 P.M to 5 P.M and worked hard in getting people to support our cause. In the end, our bake sale was very successful and our Key Club made over 100 dollars from it. We plan to send all of the money that we made to the Philippines in hopes that our hard work will help the people in need.
