olunteers Centre Skopje is a non-governmental youth organization created in 2006 by former EVS volunteers. The main goal of the organization is to give non-formal educational possibilities to young people, in different fields, on local and international level; to promote the idea of volunteerism and to connect young people without reference to their nationality, religion, political, economical or social status. Our aim is to contribute to a multicultural civil society, to reinforce existing democratic structures, to support young people in developing their individual abilities and skills and to foster closer cooperation among young people.

ERASMUS+ Erasmus+ mobility

s in the years before, also in 2018, VCS continued to implement activities in the framework of the Erasmus + Programme of the European Commission. We are using the youth component of the program (KA1 segment) and during the year we have sent abroad/received many young people on EVS and other projects (youth exchanges, training courses, seminars etc.) by using the possibilities offered by Erasmus +. This year, as well, VCS has continued to implement projects in the KA2 segment Capacity Building in the field of youth, with partners from Greece, Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina. olunteers Centre Skopje is for more than 10 years accredited organization for Coordination, Sending and Hosting EVS volunteers. Our reference number is 2014-1-MK01-KA110-000293. The main activity for our EVS volunteers is VOICES magazine and they can choose in what other activities they want to be involved in. This year â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 2018 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; we have sent 25 EVS volunteers from Macedonia to Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Romania, Portugal, Germany and Finland

EVS T

he European Voluntary Service (EVS) is a part of the Erasmus+ program for young people of the European Commission. EVS is a partnership between two or more NGOs (sending, hosting and coordinating organizations). The EVS is funded by the European Commission and aims to improve young people's skills. Volunteers participate in EVS through the sending organization in their country of residence and the hosting organization that receives and hosts them during the period of their project. Volunteers receive free accommodation, insurance, food and pocket money as well as language classes. Volunteers can work in a wide range of fields such as culture, youth, sports, children, cultural heritage, arts, environment, and development cooperation. At the end of their project every volunteer will receive a certificate confirming their participation - the Youthpass certificate. The circumstances of accommodation, tasks, working hours and days of work for international volunteers vary from one EVS project to another, therefore the choice of an EVS project is a very delicate and important phase. There is the possibility to do a short term EVS (2 weeks â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 2 months) or a long term EVS (2 months â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 12 months). If a person decides to do both, the total duration cannot be longer than 12 months and the short term project should be done first. Starting in 2019 the European Volunteering Service will be replaced by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC).

VOICES V

OICES magazine is the main activity of our organization. The last year was successful and satisfactory. The entire team of VCS Skopje, together with local and EVS volunteers were involved in the magazine, divided into several teams for: design,translation (one translation team in Macedonian and one translation team in Albanian), writing articles and proofreading texts. VOICES is the title of our EVS project. We publish online every month with texts in three languages: Macedonian, Albanian and English. Printed editions are issued every third month, four times a year. In our magazine, we are dealing with various topics and aspects of everyday life that young people are interested in. We publish interviews, reports, opinions, we critically look at social development. In addition, we organize regular weekly workshops during which we learn about the basic rules and techniques of journalism, how to recognize the news, and how to write about them. How to make an interesting reportage, how to prepare an interview, how to express opinion. We learn how to design the layout, how to properly express ourselves with the ultimate goal of being media literate.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS I

n 2018 VCS was involved in over 40 projects all across Europe. We have sent participants to training courses, youth exchanges and other seminars in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Germany, Portugal, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Romania, Slovenia, Estonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Sweden, Serbia. In all of these countries we work with great partner organisations to empower young people from Macedonia and across Europe.

PROJECTS Study visit “TrainVol”, 21 – 27.1, Skopje, Macedonia

olunteers Centre Skopje was hosting the study visit in Skopje that was second out of four planned mobility, on which the selected youth workers will have the opportunity to learn more about the reality of volunteers and volunteering. Partners of this long-term project: Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cyprus. The eight youth workers from the involved countries visited various institutions and organizations, very active and important in the field of volunteering and youth work in the Republic of Macedonia, including: National Agency for Sport and Youth, National association for youth work, Association for promotion of volunteering KONEKT, Regional office of the Coalition of youth organizations SEGA, National Agency for European education programs and mobility and the National Youth Council of Macedonia. The project was funded by the European Commission and it lasted till August 2018.

Study visit “EVS as one more step toward INCLUSION” 1 – 9.9, Macedonia

he nine day visit included visiting many associations and NGOs around Macedonia, to give the participants an opportunity to make contacts for future endeavors. The group was very diverse, with participants from 9 countries: Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Estonia, Italy, Croatia, Turkey and Poland. The Group met NGOs and associations around Skopje, such as Macedonian National Agency, Macedonian Agency for Sport and Youth, Sumnal association in Shutka, VCS, VO MOJOT SVET, Center for youth activism KRIK / КРИК, LEGIS and Macedonian Montessori Association. Study visit also included visit in many organizations in other cities in Macedonia like Kumanovo, Prilep, Struga and Ohrid. In Struga the participants had to take one step further and start thinking of an idea to apply for an EVS or training project that they represented later. Presentations were mostly EVS projects, training courses or Youth exchanges. The main idea of the project was to find partners and develop a project with NGO’s.

Youth Exchange “Social Media Literate = SAFE + EMPOWER + ENGAGE”, 15 – 23.6, Struga Macedonia

n the period of 7 working days and 2 travel days, it connected 37 participants coming from Denmark, Republic of Macedonia, Hungary, Finland, Turkey and Greece. The project responded to the needs and interests of young people from participant’s communities to increase their social media literacy. Youth exchange used methods and techniques of nonformal education developing competences of the participants to use social media effectively, critically and in safe way. By understanding the role of social media in 21stcentury, participants were equipped with practical skills. Project was hosted by Volunteers Center Skopje and it was streamed on line by daily updates on media channels. Youth created posts, articles, videos, pictures aiming to reach more and more people, learning and teaching about what media are. The participants became more literate and more able to be effectively use social media in the future. “Boosting Transversal Skills“, 16 – 22.9, Struga, Macedonia

roject hosted by Volunteers Centre Skopje with 28 participants coming from Germany, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Macedonia. The aim was to promote the learning mobility of young people as well as volunteers and professionals active in the youth field. The participants were working on a rich program including sessions, debates, workshops and presentation of their local NGO’s. This was last part of the project after youth worker seminar in Kent, Uk and youth encounter in Ilidža. Project consortium is constructed by the applicant, Berlin-based NGO Memos. The applicant’s key partner is the Institute for Youth Development KULT from Sarajevo. Along with KULT, the following organizations have mandated Memos to act as applicant and coordinator: International BURCH University and the e-learning provider IDEGO, Volunteers Centre Skopje, Mladinski Center Velenje, Ligo Lex Legis, Udruga Mladih Roma “Romska Budućnost, and Medway Youth Trust from Kent. This project is financed by the Erasmus + program and the German National Agency.

Training Course “Empower Vulnerable Youth: Theater, Creative Writing and Emotions in Focus”, 15 – 23.10, Struga, Macedonia

olunteers Centre Skopje together with Belgium partner Art of the Box were hosting this project that responded on the needs of organizations working with vulnerable youth. 24 participants coming from Spain, Macedonia, Croatia, Latvia, Greece and Belgium were part of the project that aimed to increase quality of services of partner’s organizations; bringing ideas for new local, national or intercultural projects as well as to raise awareness of public on situations of vulnerable youth. Methods and techniques used on TC were based on creative writing and theater that helped to focus on aspects such as managing strong emotions or raising self-esteem of youth. The project included two key activities: training course for youth workers working with vulnerable youth and youth exchange for young people belonging to vulnerable youth. Partners on this project were Association Mundus from Spain, Media Terra nea from Greece, Talsu novada fonds from Latvia and Mladi za Marof from Croatia. This project is funded by the Erasmus + program and the Belgian National Agency –JINT.

Seminar “Volunteering as a step forward to entrepreneurship and employablilty” 20 – 28.11, Struga, Macedonia

ogether with youth workers from 12 countries in Europe, the seminar was a continuation of the training course that happened in Milicz, Poland. With the same partners from Poland, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Romania, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Turkey the topic was how volunteering can help for a person to become an entrepreneur and get a job. In the focus of the seminar is the work of the youth workers in their organizations with the local and foreign volunteers like the EVS volunteers, with guests as such as some well-known entrepreneurs and founders of NGOs from Macedonia. This seminar was aiming to improve the work of the youth workers with the volunteers during their volunteering and after it. This project was organized with our partner from Poland – Fundacja Mobilni Polacy and the support of Erasmus + program and the Polish National Agency.

PROJECTS Project: “No quarrels” 01 – 30.11, Skopje, Struga, Gostivar, Macedonia

he Volunteers Centre Skopje carried out the project “No quarrels” in three multiethnic municipalities in Macedonia, Skopje, Struga and Gostivar from the 1st of july to the 30th of november. The main purpose of the project was to raise awareness of the youth of the importance of the multicultural communication and interaction. Namely, the project enabled intensive and close intercultural communication and interaction among the young high schoolers, the recognition of the different cultural values and traditions and their acceptance. The recognition of the different cultural values and traditions is crucial for the creation and upgrade of the intercultural communication. The next phase was the interaction e.g. the acceptance of the cultural differences and the readiness to create cohesion through the cultural differences. In the project framework different activities and tasks were carried out that increased the intercultural communication and interaction among the youth. Among other activities, a five day camp was organized in Struga with young people aged between 16-18 from different ethnic communities from Skopje, Gostivar and Struga. The activities in the camp included: peer workshops, a forum theatre and the making of a picture book about the intercultural communication. The purpose of the project was to increase the cultural communication among the youth and at the same time to enable them to recognize the real mutual challenges like the marginalization of the youth and other challenges in the society that they are not capable to recognize because of the low intercultural communication and interaction. The increased awareness of the cultural differences among youth of different ethnic communities; the acceptance of the cultural differences by young people from different ethnicities; an increased intercultural communication among youth of different ethnic communities are some of the results that were achieved. The target group of this project were young people aged between 16-18 from different ethnic communities from Skopje, Gostivar and Struga. The project was financed by Foundation Open Society – Macedonia in the frame of the program for local initiatives.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES T

his year again, VCS has organised a series of activities, in order to promote the intercultural, capacity building of youth workers, volunteerism and opportunities for young people from the city of Skopje and outside. Our local and EVS volunteers over the past year implemented a range of activities of creative, social and educational character. Activities aimed at encouraging young people to be more active, upgrading their knowledge and skills and of course creating new local and international friendships. VCS organised a range of workshops at local schools aiming to train young people and raise awareness on a number of issues such as equal rights or No discrimination. The workshops also aimed to empower young people by teaching new skills such as presenting them self, teamwork and personal development. 2018 started with a French talking class and an Estonian movie night, only the first of many different language classes and movie nights. There was a Polish, French, German another Estonian movie night. Multiple activities revolved around language. Besides the French language classes, people could sing and enjoy themselves during language karaoke or the classic language cafĂŠ where each language had a table and people could come and learn some words or practice their conversation skills or simply ask questions about the different cultures represented by our volunteers. While almost everything happens online nowadays, VCS brought back the old times of sitting together and playing boardgames during various instances of the boardgame night at VCS. Also practical abilities and sports featured high on the agenda this year. A drawing course taught the participants to connect to their inner creativity and express themselves with pen and paper. The sport fanatics on the other hand could go all out at the Skopje Football Match at the Vasil Antevski Dren Highschool. Throughout the whole year VCS participated in the D-Festival during the summer, helped to gather food for people in need, joined a Wizzair marathon and many other local events.

ogether to a better society! The fair of non-governmental organizations in the city of Skopje, was organized for the 4th time in a row by Volunteers Center Skopje with financial support by the city of Skopje. On the 5th of December 2018, in the premises of NUB ,,St. Kliment Ohridski”, we successfully implemented the NGO fair ,,Together to a better society” of the city of Skopje. At the fair there were more than 55 associations of citizens, people who are active on the territory of the city of Skopje. This is the fourth event in a row of this kind, NGO fair, which is organized in Skopje after the last three and we hope that this event will become a yearly activity in the city, in the years to come. At the end of the fair the four best stands were announced which were selected with the votes of the audience and points that were given by a Commission consisting of: Saranda Bekiri, Aleksandra Krstevska, Goran Galabof, Ana Mihajlovska and Andrej Naumovski. The best stands were by the organizations of: Borka, SmartAp, Youth CAN and the Cultural Echo. In the context of the project a register of NGO’s of the city of Skopje was made. MMUN O

n April 28, 2018, in the premises of FON University in Skopje, the 7th National Conference of the Macedonian Model United Nations Program was held, organized by the Coalition of Youth Organizations SEGA. The program of the Macedonian Model United Nations aims to present the work of the United Nations and provides opportunity for young people to strengthen their capacities in advocacy, lobbying, negotiating, diplomacy, conflict resolution, public speaking and writing. This years conference involved young people aged 16 to 25 who have the ambition to be part of democratic processes, international cooperation and advocacy and lobbying to resolve global situations and issues. In the role of delegates, young people from several cities in Macedonia at the MMUN 2018 Conference represented 15 UN member states in 6 different committees of the United Nations. They were debating many real and current world issues. At the end of the conference, the best delegates of each committee were awarded. From the VCS MMUN Club Marko Mojsov (General Assembly I committee), Isaja Karadakovska (Youth Assembly), Darko Miloshevski (Security Council), Valerija Ilievska (UNHCR) and Jana Nedelkovska (ECOSOC) received the best delegate awards. Volunteers Center Skopje this year has been recognized as the best club in the implementation of the activities of the MMUN 2018. In the 7th edition of MMUN 1200 youngsters from Macedonia and the region have participated.

LOCAL COOPERATION PROJECT: SCHOOL MEETS BUSINESS

n 2018 Volunteers entre Skopje continued its collaboration with the Austrian KulturKontakt with a beginning of a new project entitled â&#x20AC;&#x153;School Meets Businessâ&#x20AC;? financed of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research, in cooperation with Macedonian Ministry for Education and Science and the Center for Vocational Education and Training. This regional project involving also Albania and Kosovo aims to strengthen the capacities and competences of the VET high schools for better and improved professional collaboration with the economic community through implementation of Work Based Learning and promotion of so called school coordinators as a link between the schools and the companies. The aim of the project is the promotion of the quality and the importance of the vocational education on the labor market through strengthening the practical work (Work Based Learning) as a reform priority in all three countries involved. The role of the Volunteers Centre Skopje is the coordination, organization and logistical support of the subjects involved in the events and workshops that will take place in Macedonia.

TRAINVOL I

n the past year Volunteers Centre Skopje was part of a KA2 project financed by the European Union and the Erasmus + programme for capacity building, TrainVol. In this project the focus was put on what exactly is the field where Volunteers Centre works and that is youth work and volunteering. In TrainVol four partner organizations took part, from four different countries Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Greece and of course Macedonia i.e. Volunteers Centre Skopje that was the leading partner. As a result of this project are also the two coordinators, the new team of Volunteers Centre Skopje. What came out of this project is also an internet platform, a free online course where you can get a certificate after completing it. The platform is available in four languages, Macedonian, English, Bosnian and Greek. On the platform you will find two courses, one for youth workers and another for volunteers. Both courses contain four modules and at the end you have a quiz with 24 questions with multiple choice answers where with 70% correct answers you get the certificate. Each module is divided in special units that contain infomation, videos, stories from volunteers and a lot of useful links. Vocational Education and Training Mobility V

olunteers Centre Skopje in collaboration with its partners is also involved in Vocational Education and Training Mobility-VET as a part of the Erasmus+ programme that provides mobility and practical engagement of the young students in foreign companies related with their profession. By working in International environment, comparing and exchanging the best practices the VET program aims to strengthen the practical knowledge and skills of the students through practical activities in companies, institutions and private businesses interested in development of a future career of the young people. Volunteers Centre Skopje so far has provided an opportunity for young people coming from abroad in industries like administration, automotive, nursing homes and health care for elderly people, renewable energy sources, tourism, professional cosmetics and beauty and other, providing all the necessary logistical support. Upon completing their practical work the interns gain credits and certificates for successful completion of their internship in another country in the field related with their education.

SUPPORT FOR OTHERS I

n 2018 we continued our collaboration and support with Association for defense of children rights & Day care center for children from street. We assisted them for their EVS accreditation and helped them through EVS volunteers. They held different workshop with artistic, physical activities. In the day center we also collaborate supporting the work of the teachers in the day to day and developing their own workshops so that the children take advantage of their full potential. Children have the opportunity to eat and wash in the center. The center not only collaborates with families by providing training but also puts donors in contact with people in need. In 2018, Volunteers Centre Skopje hosted two French Civil Service volunteers from France, Dounia Kaaouas and Aida Athmani, who were working with these children. Also from October 2018, in behalf of the Daily Centre VCS were coordinating the EVS project of the volunteer from Estonia, Triine Viisma. She was directly involved in everyday activities in the centre, and will continue activities in the centre with children till 9/2019.

CS Skopje in service of promotion of the volunteering supported the Association of citizens for treatment of autism, ADHD and Asperger syndrome IN MY WORLD-Skopje in the preparation of the Accreditation for hosting EVS volunteers and during the 2018 they received their first volunteers from Estonia and France. 65 Labor rights for the youth is a national campaign brought about by the Coalition of youth organizations - SEGA, along with the Youth Informative and Consulting Centres INFO SEGA in Prilep and Kavadartsi, in collaboration with Fakulteti.mk and Macedonian Confederation Of Free Trade Unions, and the local partner organizations. As a regional Coalition SEGA office and a partner of the 365 Labor rights for the youth campaign, VCS took part from the very start of the campaign by publishing labour rights for the youth and employees every day, with the goal of informing the public about their rights and duties. As a local partner, throughout the campaign we held meetings with young people about their rights and duties in the workplace, infodays were organized in the Skopje City Park and in different coffee places in the city, where we informed the young about the campaign and their rights in the workplace, and about what they should do if their rights are ever violated. VCS also took part in national media, TV networks Telma and MRTV, and Radio Skopje, in order to share with a greater percentage of young people the goal and activities of the 365 Labor rights for the youth campaign, as well as what this campaign aims to accomplish.

olunteers Centre Skopje cooperates with a number of partners to realise joint projects and support each other. VCS teamed up with many organisations in Macedonia and all over Europe to realise joint projects, youth exchanges and trainings. The regional office of the coalition SEGA is located at VCS. SEGA is a coalition of NGOâ&#x20AC;&#x2DC;s in Macedonia that promotes cooperation and support among its members. Recently VCS joined the Youth Bank Network Macedonia, which is a mechanism for grantmaking that emposwers young people and puts them in charge of financing projects relevant to improve their livelihood. Volunteers Centre Skopje, is part of the YOUTH WORK UNION as well. The Youth Work Union is a network of youth organizations and organizations that work with and for youth, whose task is to regulate and standardize youth work, support young workers and increase public awareness of the importance of youth work. The vision of SMR is to recognize youth work as a profession and to have a system of support for young people and youth workers. VCS is also part of the European Peer Training Network which connects organisations to promote training opportunities for young people across Europe. Lastly, VCS is a member of the Youth4Media association. Members of Youth4Media work together on topics such as media education and intercultural dialogue in the field of media. It aims to support young people to learn about and to actively participate in the field of media. Also, VCS is supported by the City of Skopje, the municipality of Kisela Voda, the Foundation Open Society Macedonia and collaborates with Arbo travel agency.

018 was a year full of change and new experiences for VCS, at the same time we successfully continued many longstanding projects.
