Dear Friends, It seems that I’m writing editorial for the last time, at least during my EVS. It is quite hard to put in few words my feelings and say goodbye Voices Magazine. I would like to say thank you to all of you who worked in the Magazine in last six months, it was pleasure to meet you and to cooperate with you. In this issue you will find a lot of beutiful pictures and stories connected with art, art in international eyes, so enjoy it during sunny days and do not forget about previous volunteers, which are leaving Macedonia en masse this month. The theatre group of Cebollas or in Basque Kipulak, was formed 5 years ago in the city of Bilbao. A girl named Judith Ruiz started to give theatre lessons to a group of five teenagers. With the years some people left and others came, and finally 12 are the actors and actresses that form this alternative group of theatre. In this interview we spoke with Ainhoa Artetxe (18 years) member of the group since the beginning. And with Marta Fantova (16 years), that this is her third year in the team. Both of them express their feelings about art, theatre and more concrete about their own experience in Cebollas.

The world of art is infinite and it has thousands of faces, why did you choose theatre and the actuation?

Ainhoa Artetxe: Is infinite, and that’s why I like the world of art in general. But I choose theatre, because is the one that lets more freedom in my mind. The fact of disconnecting of yourself and trying to enter in the skin of other people or other situations produces a big feeling of freedom. I can live, believe, feel or experiment things that in my normal life I would never do.

Marta Fantova: I think that is the way of art that most attracts me, since I was child I liked to act in one way or another, and I think that the theatre is a very good way to transmit to any kind of public one thought or idea.

Did you always have the theatre inside of you?

A.A: The truth is that I’ve always being very “teatrera” (liked theatre). I remember that since I was child I loved to speak alone from different characters. Conversations between more than one people but from an only mouth, mine. In front of the mirror, in the bed or even in the street. I have to admit that since I was child I suffer the syndrome of liking being watched, that’s why I also always liked to dress up strikingly.

At the age of 9 more or less I started to like to perform in small theatres organized by the school. And that’s when I decided that when I was older I wanted to be actress.

M.F: I don’t know, if you say it like this it can sound a bit strong, but maybe yes. The theatre is not just to learn some text and act it, is much more than this. Is a way of going out from your reality, to become in another person, it’s about thinking and acting in a way that you would never do. And I always liked that of escaping from my reality.

What is theatre for you?

A.A: Theatre is a way of living life, of exploring it, or even of feeling it. Is the way of reflecting the reality that surrounds us through a fiction. Tell the truth through a lie. But this doesn’t mean that in the fiction you shouldn’t feel the reality. That’s what theatre is about, about repeating everyday situations with naturalness. In my opinion, that naturalness cannot be cold, the actor has to be full of fire, life and feelings inside.

And even more, I think that theatre is an excellent way to arrive and to get in the feelings of the viewer, the people.

M.F: Right now I don’t make my life from it, so I enjoy it a lot. Is an escape, a way of enjoying life in another way.

Can theatre help you to grow up as a person and human being?

A.A: I think that yes. I would recommend theatre to everyone. It helps a lot in a personal level. It helps to release tensions, shyness or even traumas. It can bring any aspect of yourself. It can bring out the most beautiful part of you or the most mean and sad. But for this you have to be ready to let yourself free, to open and let in. That’s when we evolve as people.

M.F: Yes, of course. With the theatre you don’t just meet interesting people that can make you change your point of view. Specially you get to know yourself, you discover your fears, insecurities, the things that don’t let you think, you go deep in yourself and you get to understand yourself. And getting to understand yourself you get to understand the rest of the people.

What pushed you to create the group Cebollas?

A.A: We really wanted to make theatre, in any kind of way. And Judith offered us alternative theatre lessons for a very good price. Moreover we wanted to work between us, seeing that every one of us brings something different, and we have different kinds of creativity. I must say that when we want we understand each other and we work very good. Since we started we don’t want to stop, we are hooked.

What kind of theatre, or what do you do in the theatre group that you belong to?

A.A: Unlike other schools, Cebollas give us more freedom in the moment of working. I think that this freedom is the strength and the originality of our group. Each one can choose the character or the situation that wants to work with, always without changing the play. Everyone makes a small creation or a personal work, own and in the taste of each of us. And after, this let us create something together.

Something in what everyone agrees. Is another way of working, different, and I would say that more free. And what is more important it works, we always make some play for the end of the course. In this last years we focus more in making Cabarets, we like it, since we can introduce a bit of musical theatre and clothes from those years.

In June we will present our play “Chessire Cabaret”, a very funny play full of humor and drama. With curious characters but full of life. Is a very recommendable play and I try to say it from an objective point of view. Every one that reads this magazine is invited to Bilbao to watch our next performance.

COVERING SKOPJE

Тhere аre a lot of types of street art, but when I came to Skopje seven months ago, I felt that the city was covered with graffiti, and the rest of the forms of art were missing in the Macedonian capital. You could see tags and any kind of graffiti everywhere, some of them with political content and some other just with names or drawings.

After some months I started to think about doing something about this. I like street art, and I like it when all types of art are mixed in the canvas of the city. I started looking into my pictures and I started thinking how I could put my pictures in the street. I started to change the appearance of the pictures, the colors, the light, etc. and at the end they were ready to be on the streets. Apart from my own pictures I also thought about taking some scenes from movies and put them on the streets. When the material was ready I decided to go on the streets and with the help of the glue, I started to stick my pictures everywhere around Kisela Voda. I don’t know if something will change, but I like to think that with this, more people will start to do other kinds of street art, and that sooner or later Skopje will become a (capital) city with art not only in the museums but also on the streets.

Skopje is not the only city in Balkans that is being covered with pictures or any type of art. Someone in Belgrade also took the relief and started or continued to cover the Serbian capital. With this I hope that the relief will continue all around the Balkans.

ПОКРИВАЈЌИ ГО СКОПЈЕ

Има многу видови на улична уметност, но кога дојдов во Скопје пред седум месеци имав чувство дека градот е покриен со графити, а останатите видови уметност недостасуваат во македонскиот главен град. Можеше да се видат тагови и било каков вид на графити насекаде. Некои од нив со политичка содржина, а други само со имиња или цртежи. По неколку месеци почнав да размислувам да направам нешто во врска со ова; ми се допаѓа уличната уметност, и ми се допаѓа кога сите видови уметност се мешаат на платното на градот. Почнав да ги гледам во моите слики и да размислувам за тоа како би можела да ги ставам моите слики на улица. Почнав да го менувам изгледот на сликите, боите, светлината, итн. и на крајот, тие беа подготвени за надвор. Освен моите слики, размислував да ставам и слики од некои сцени од филмови. Кога материјалот беше готов решив да излезам на улица и почнав да ги лепам моите слики насекаде во Кисела Вода. Не знам дали нешто ќе се промени, но јас сакам да верувам дека со ова повеќе луѓе ќе почнат да создаваат други видови на улична уметност, и дека порано или подоцна Скопје ќе стане главниот град не само со уметност во музеите, но и на улиците. Скопје не е единствениот град на Балканот што е прекриен со слики или било каков вид на уметност. Некој во Белград, исто така, започна акција со која почна или продолжува да го покрива главениот град на Србија. Со ова се надевам дека акцијата ќе се рашири низ целиот Балкан.

THEATRE OF THE OPPRESSED MY BIH EXPERIENCE

Boarders exist only in minds - that is what the atmosphere from this TC made me believe again.

The goal of the host team was empowering youth social development by sharing concrete work tools. Among three of the workshops offered for participation (forum theatre, creation of sustainable toys, video production and communication) I chose the theatre.

Forum theatre is a type of theatre created by the innovative and influential practitioner Augusto Boal as part of what he calls his "Theatre of the Oppressed." While practicing earlier in his career, Boal would apply 'simultaneous dramaturgy'. In this process the actors or audience members could stop a performance, often a short scene in which a character was being oppressed in some way. The audience would suggest different actions for the actors to carry out on-stage in an attempt to change the outcome of what they were seeing. This was an attempt to undo the traditional actor partition and bring audience members into the performance, to have an input into the dramatic action they were watching. In the realization of this method a Facilitator is needed also known as a Joker (could be the drama workshop leader) - a person that takes the responsibility for the logistic of the process and ensures a fair proceeding, but must never comment upon or intervene in the content of the performance, as that is the province of the Spect-actors. The Spect-actors are the people engaged in Forum theatre, as Boal has named them. This term refers to the dual role of those involved in the process as both spectator and actor, as they both observe and create dramatic meaning and action in any performance.

It was a surprise for me when Boal was mentioned, since I have known about him from before, and thought that I would never have an opportunity to meet his idea in practice. Engaging theatre with youth activism (and civil activism in general) means taking the world as a stage, in search of alternatives, while revitalizing the core idea of true art- to see, to show the seen and to motivate solution as a leading motion of the change. The thing I find interesting in the type of theatre practiced by Boal is that the audience is encouraged to not only imagine change but to actually practice that change.

Mixing reality with credible reality played on stage means taking the finality out of the world and using a deeper sense of concluding after an actual physical involvement. This method gives an opportunity of examining the individual oppression in life and beginning to take responsibility for it, since it determines the person one is. Freedom starts with a vision of freedom and a view of freedom is the one beyond imprisoning lines (limits).

FIND THE FUNDS FOR YOUR ART

The artistic expression is unmeasurable, but the resources necessary to show it to the world while easy to identify, are likely to terrify you into holding back your ideas. If you are an artist, do not fear, there are hundreds of opportunities to get financial support from various funds and donors.

First of all, check very carefully the websites of the Ministry of Culture and those of the foreign embassies in your country – they often offer scholarships for your education and development or organise events in specific areas. After that, start googling the rest.

If you are interested in film production you should check out Young Film Fund, where you can apply for Studio Grant for two to four films of up to three minutes and get up to 30.000 pounds or for Pilot Grant (one film of up to three minutes, five thousands pounds). Another option is Movies That Matter Support Programme (next deadline is 15 September, 2012) which aims to promote human rights and offers financial assistance of up to five thousands euros.

If you prefer traditional expression in painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking and you have already started or completed in an established school of art, apply for The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for Artists and get up to fifteen thousands dollars for further training. Various universities in Europe and USA offer many similar grants, so again google it! If you feel educated and experienced enough and you would love to show your masterpieces around the world, use the European Cultural Foundation Step Beyond Travel Grant, which offers you up to seven hundred euros for your travel expenses. You can also get Residence Grant for young artists and get to live and work somewhere in the world with the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Mobility help.

If you work in an organisation or with a group, you can get even higher support. For instance ECF Balkan Incentive Fund for Culture Grant can support up to eighty percent of the total budget of your cultural or artistic project which stimulates transnational collaboration. Remember that with art you can always bring some change to the society, which is supported by Advancing Roma Inclusion Grant through Arts & Culture by offering up to 25.000 dollars for non-profit legal entities from Central Europe and the Balkans. The International Music and Art Foundation Grants is another possibility for established and recognised organisations for development of fine arts, music, theatre and architecture, which gives grants ranging in size: from several hundreds to several hundred thousands Swiss Francs.

If your head is full of ideas, but wallet does not allowed you to make your artistic or cultural dreams come true, just find a moment, read the guidelines and take your chance! In case of budget-phobia or mathematical disability look around for some crazy grant seekers who will help you hit the peak.

Shprehja artistike është një e pamatëshme, por burimet e nevojshme për të treguar atë botës janë të lehtë për të identifikuar dhe ka të ngjarë të trembur dhe të mbajnë prapa idetë. Nëse ju jeni një artist, mos u frikësoni, ka me qindra e mundësi për të marrë mbështetje financiare nga fondet e ndryshme të donatorëve.

Para së gjithash, shikoni me kujdes faqet e internetit të ministrisë së kulturës dhe ambasadave të huaja në vendin tuaj, ato shpesh ofrojnë bursa për shkollimin tuaj dhe zhvillim ose për organizimin e ngjarjeve në fusha të caktuara. Pas kësaj fillo të kërkosh pjesën tjetër. Nëse jeni të interesuar në prodhimin e filmit ju duhet të shikoni Fondin Rinor i filmit, ku ju mund të aplikoni për Studio Grant për mes dy dhe katër filma deri në tre minuta dhe të marrish deri në tridhjetë mijë paund, ose për Pilot Grant (film një deri në tre minuta, pesë mijë paund). Një tjetër alternativë është Filmat që kanë rëndësi të Programit të Mbështetjes (afati tjetër është deri më pesëmbëdhjetë të muajit shtator 2012), i cili synon të promovojë të drejtat e njeriut të shqyrtimit në mbarë botën dhe ofron ndihmë financiare deri në pesë mijë euro.

Nëse ju preferoni shprehje tradicionale në vizatim, pikturë, skulpturë, ose printmaking dhe ju keni filluar ose përfunduar në një shkollë të caktuar të artit, apliko për The Grant GREENSHIELDS Elizabeth Fondacioni për Artist për të marrë deri në pesëmbëdhjetë mijë dollarë për trajnim të mëtejshëm. Shumë grante të ngjashme ofrojnë univerzitete të ndryshme në Evropë dhe SHBA, kështu që përsëri kërko në google! Nëse ju mendoni se jeni të arsimuar dhe me përvojë të mjaftueshme dhe ju do të dëshironit ti tregojni kryeveprat tuaja në gjithë botën, përdorni Evropian Hapi-Fondacionin Kulturor përtej Travel Grant, i cili ju ofron deri në shtatëqind euro për shpenzimet e udhëtimit tuaj. Ju gjithashtu mund të merrni grant qëndrimi për artistët e rinj, të jetojnë dhe të punojnë diku në botë me UNESCO-Aschberg bursa për artistët në ndihmën e mobilitetit.

Nëse ju punoni në organizatë ose me grup, ju mund të merrni përkrahje edhe më të lartë. Për shembull ECF Fondi Stimulues Ballkanik për Kulturë Grant mund të të mbështesë deri në tetëdhjetë për qind të buxhetit të përgjithshëm të projektit tuaj kulturorë dhe artistikë, e cila simulon bashkëpunim transnacional. Mos harroni se me artin ju gjithmonë mund të sjellni disa ndryshime në shoqëri, çfarë është mbështetur nga Avancimi Grant Përfshirjes së Romëve Nëpërmjet Artit & Kulturës duke ofruar deri në njëzet e pesë mijë dollarë për organizatat jo-fitimprurëse personat juridik nga Evropa Qendrore dhe Ballkani. Një mundësi tjetër për organizata të përcaktuara dhe të njohura për zhvillimin e arteve të bukura, muzikë, teatër dhe arkitekturë, jep Muzika Ndërkombëtare dhe Fondacioni i Artit me rangimin e saj në madhësi nga disa qindra në disa qindra mijë franga zvicërane.

Nëse koka juaj është plot ide, por portofoli i juaj nuk ju lejon që ju ti bëni ëndrrat tuaja artistike apo kulturore realitet, vetëm gjejeni një moment, lexoni udhëzimet dhe shfrytëzoni shansin tuaj! Најди средства за твојата уметност Уметничкиот израз е безмерен, но потребните ресурси за да му се покаже на светот иако лесно можат да се идентификуваат, можат да те исплашат и да ги потиснеш идеите. Ако си уметник, не плаши се, постојат стотици можности да се добие финансиска поддршка од различни фондови и донатори. Најпрво, провери ги многу внимателно веб-локациите на Министерството за култура и странските амбасади во твојата земја; тие често нудат стипендии за вашето образование и развој или организираат настани од одредени области. Потоа пребарај на Google за останатото. Ако си заинтересиран за филмска продукција треба да го провериш Младинскиот филмски фонд (Young Film Fund), каде што можеш да аплицираш за студиски грант за две до четири филмови во траење до три минути и ќе добиеш до 30,000 фунти или за пилот-грант (еден филм до три минути, 5,000 фунти). Друга опција е Програмата за финанцирање на значајни (следниот рок е 15.септември 2012), која има за цел да ги промовира човековите права во светот и нуди финансиска помош до 5,000 евра. Ако чувствуваш дека си со доволно образование и искуство и би сакал да ги покажеш твоите ремек дела во целиот свет, искористи го грантот Чекор понатаму од патување на Европската фондација за култура (ЕФК) (European Cultural Foundation Step Beyond Travel Grant), кој нуди до 700 евра за патните трошоци. Исто така може да се добие грант за престој за млади уметници, кои живеат и работат во светот со стипендиите УНЕСКО-Ашберг (UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists) за мобилност на уметници. Ако работиш во организација или со група, може да добиете уште поголема поддршка. What is it about that sound

The story of the British brass band as I know it started in the 1840s with the expansion of bands as a response to the second industrial revolution. It is said that the brass band were (and still is) an expression of the local solidarity and aspirations of the community. In 1853 the first British open brass band championship was staged and continued until 1981. One of the biggest changes happened in the Margret Thatcher years in the 1980s.

Wishing to save money the government wanted to export coal from other countries instead of extracting coal from Britain. Industrial action ensued resulting in the 1984/1985 miners strike. The brass bands stood where the mining pits had closed and at least gave some comfort to the families who had little else, the 1994 EU enquiry into poverty classified Grimethorpe village as one of the poorest villages in Europe, which ironically is home to arguably the most famous brass band in the world.

I started to play when I was 5 years old with the school band which wasn’t very good but by 13 I had found a good youth band to join and I’m now hoping to conduct the band full time, which makes me feel old! The sound of my tenor horn as I played had an undeniable pull on me and many others which I can’t describe. I once told my friend who also played “The horn is the perfect blend of power and sophistication.” It sounded so funny at the time! Being part of a brass band has opened so many opportunities for me and my fellow players. For instance our band are friends with a band in Bochum, Germany and we visit each other every two years. For our younger members it’s their first time abroad and for everyone else it’s a chance meet old friends and new musicians, I’ll never forget my first time back when I was 16. I’d been playing for 4 years by then and I was pretty much settled, over the three days we spent there I had so many impossible (or so I thought) experiences. The Best of which was meeting a German band player called Teresa, we fast became friends and have been ever since, she has been a huge inspiration to me and if not for our mutual interest in brass we would never have met. I could go on and on but now is not the time! One of the main benefits of a brass band which I’m sure everyone would agree is a pint of beer next to your chair as you play! Brass band playing and drinking are synonymous with each other, though it always results with at least one spilt pint!

Playing for a brass band can be considered a hobby like any other but until you’ve practiced with your friends for months on end, until you’ve had a laugh over a drink in the local pub, until you’ve helped each other through the hardest times you will realise what a friendly, close, hard working bunch a band can be.

Што е тоа толку привлечно кај тој звук?

Приказната за британските дувачки оркестри како што знам, започнала уште во 1840те со експанзијата на бендови како реакција на втората индустриска револуција. Се вели дека дувачките оркестри биле (и сѐ уште се) израз на локалната солидарност и аспирациите на заедницата. Во 1853та година се одржа првото Британско отворено првенство на дувачки оркестри и продолжило да се одржува до 1981 година. Една од најголемите промени се случила за време владеењето на Маргарет Тачер во 1980те. Со цел да заштеди пари Владата сакала да извезува јаглен од другите земји наместо да го ископува од Британија. Следеле индустриски акции кои на крај довеле до штрајкот на рударите од 1984-85. Дувачките оркестри биле поставени кај затворените рудници и барем им дале малку утеха на семејствата. Со ЕУ анкетата за сиромаштија од 1994 година Гриметорп селото било класифицирано како едно од најсиромашните села во Европа, што по некоја иронија е дом на најверојатно најпознатиот дувачки оркестар во светот. Јас започнав да свирам кога имав 5 години со училишниот оркестар што не беше многу добар, но додека наполнив 13 си најдов добар млад оркестар на кој му се придружив и сега се надевам да бидам и диригент, што ме прави да се чувствувам малку стар! Звукот на мојот тенор туба додека свирев ме привлекуваше мене и многу други луѓе на начин кој не можам да го опишам. Еднаш дури и му реков на другар ми, кој исто така свиреше дека „Трубата е совршена комбинација од моќ и софистицираност“. Тогаш ова ми звучеше толку смешно! Тоа што сум дел од дувачки оркестар ми отвори многу можности мене и на моите колеги. На пример, ние сме пријатели со еден оркестар од Бохум, Германија и се посетуваме на секои две години. За нашите помлади членови тоа е обично прво патување во странство, а за сите други ова е можност да се сретнеме со старите пријатели и со нови музичари. Никогаш нема да го заборавам првиот пат на вакво патување, кога имав 16 години. Тогаш свирев во оркестарот веќе 4 години и бев доста вешт. Во текот на трите дена кои ги поминавме таму ми се случија многу невозможни (или барем така мислев) искуства. Најдоброто беше што сретнав една Германка, Тереза, која свиреше во ваков оркестар и со која набрзо станавме пријатели и продолживме да се дружиме оттогаш. Таа ми е огромна инспирација и да не беше нашиот заеднички интерес во дувачките оркестрите никогаш немаше да се сретнеме. Би можел да ви зборувам со денови, но сега не е времето за тоа! Една од најголемите придобивки од ваквиот оркестар со кој сум сигурен дека сите би се согласиле е криглата пиво веднаш до столчето додека свирите! Свирењето и пиењето во дувачките оркестри одат заедно, иако секогаш на крај има барем една истурена кригла! Да се свири во дувачки оркестар може да се смета за хоби како и секое друго хоби. Сепак, дури откако ќе вежбате со пријателите со месеци, дури откако ќе се изнасмеете со пијачка во локалниот паб, дури откако ќе си помогнете едни на други во најтешките времиња ќе сфатите колку пријателска, блиска и вредна дружина може да биде еден оркестар.

“Life is a Movement”

Training course in Kavadarci (22nd – 30th March 2012)

How to promote volunteering through street art? How to encourage young people to get involved into it? How to use street art as a tool in work with the youth all over Europe? For one week in the end of March the participants of the training course “Life is a Movement” tried to find the answers for these and many other questions. The training organized by Council for Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency (SPPMD) took place during the last week of March in Kavadarci. The youth workers from eight countries (Italy, Portugal, Serbia, Romania, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia) were taught different techniques of the street art – graffiti, break dance and hip-hop music.

Except for the participants, SPPMD hosted also people who are involved in the street art on a daily basis – a DJ, a couple of break dancers (including Vladimir Timotijević from a Serbian acrobatic-dancing group USB), graffiti artists from Kavadarci, Skopje and Prilep and rapper Billy Zver.

Workshops were very interesting, dynamic and fun! Various activities involved drawing, dancing and singing. The participants not infrequently had to use their creativity, ingenuity and diverse skills. Writing a song, making a logo of the team and preparing the choreography were only some of the tasks.

Everything was a preparation for the big event during which the participants were supposed to present what they have learned during this training course.

Apart from the thematic workshops there were many team building activities that proved the real positive spirit of the whole group. Also one training session took place in a house next to the Tikvesh Lake so everybody could enjoy both the workshop and beautiful nature around. Intercultural night was also a must. The participants got a chance to present and taste traditional food from all countries involved in the training course and learn some national dances. The wine and cheese from Azerbaijan were popular with everyone as well as Portuguese Porto and Macedonian “tavche gravche” (тавче гравче - beans).

On 29th March the main event took place at the city’s swimming pool. From 12 till 18 o’clock each of the three groups (graffiti, break dance, hip hop music) presented their work in the public while the 18

La Ciotat, the birthplace of cinema

How to talk about art and not to mention 7th art? I used to say that at Cannes, and they have the stars here, we have dust! The tradition is that when projecting the original film, the image of a train coming directly toward him has terrified the audience, shouting and rushing toward the back of the room. The journalist Hellmuth Karasek reported in Der Spiegel: "This film has had a particularly durable, yes, it caused fear, terror, panic and even ... » Captivated by this discovery and anticipating the possibilities of using this device, Georges Méliès, magician and theater director Houdin in Paris and one of the first 33 spectators, immediately wanted to buy a copy of the Cinematograph but the brothers refused to reveal the secret their discovery. They wanted to keep the exclusive exploitation of their invention. That's when the race started to counterfeit and wonderful adventure film.

Today, La Ciotat is now considered the birthplace of cinema with Lyon. Classified as an historic monument in 1996, the Eden Theatre is part of the heritage of the seventh Art. It is the subject of rehabilitation works since March 2007 under the aegis of a support committee chaired by Bertrand Tavernier, the famous director, screenwriter, producer and writer French.

Како може да се зборува за уметност а притоа да се изостави седмата? “Во минатато зборував за тоа како тука во Кан и покрај сите ѕвезди , имаме прашина!”, се смее Мајкл Корнил, претседател на друштвото “The light of Eden”, стоејќи во шутот на “неговиот” театар,сместен на брегот од La Ciotat, со поглед на марината. Отворен за прв пат на 16 Јуни 1889, “the Eden Theatre (La Ciotat” е еден од најстарите постоечки театри во целиот свет. Првично,”Eden” бил театар, кој во годината на отварањето се до 1895 бил домаќин на разновидни претстави (театарски, концертни), но исто така и спортски свечености (бокс, борење во Грчко-Римски стил итн). Но во 1895, било одржано првото приватно филмско прикажување организирано од страна на браќата “Lumière”.

“the lake and mountains

were wild and untouched” Everyone was telling us how beautiful Ohrid is so me and my friend Martha decided to do a round trip of sightseeing for Easter. It also gave us the perfect opportunity to try hitchhiking for the first time, and what a journey!

In the first five minutes on the highway we got a short lift from a family out shopping, after that we waited another five minutes and we found a man called Phillip who was willing to take us all the way to our first destination, Struga. Within two hours we met our fellow volunteer Monika “Davis” Ashtalkoska. Struga was certainly a breath of fresh air compared to Skopje and I really enjoyed how the snow capped mountains surrounded the outskirts while not making it claustrophobic. Despite Struga being a small town it still has a vibrant night life as we found out after three nights partying! The three of us attended the local church for the Easter service and was surprised by the turnout which is more than I’m used to back home.

We spent our next day in Ohrid and it definitely didn’t disappoint, naturally the lake and mountains were wild and untouched, and having got used to living in Skopje I was surprised by how much greenery there was. As we walked around the sky was constantly changing and offered some beautiful views and after a cup of coffee and conversation we got ready for another long night of dancing back in Struga!

As we had Monday off we had intended to go on to Bitola but as you might expect we got up a little late and feeling that time wasn’t on our side I decided to catch the last train that evening while Martha went on to Bitola to come back Tuesday Morning. A big thank you to Monika and her parents, to Phillip, everyone we met while dancing and the children I shared a train compartment with for making Easter weekend such a success!

Сите ни кажуваа колку е убав Охрид и така јас и другарка ми Марта решивме да се прошетаме за Велигден. Во исто време, ја искористивме оваа совршена можност да пробаме да автостопираме за прв пат, и тоа какво патување имавме! Во првите пет минути на автопатот накратко нѐ извози едно семејство кое одеше на шопинг, а потоа чекавме уште пет минути додека не дојде еден човек по име Филип кој се согласи да нѐ однесе до нашата прва дестинација, Струга. За два часа се сретнавме со нашата колешка волонтерка Моника „Дејвис“ Ашталкоска. Струга беше едно големо освежување во споредба со Скопје и уживав во тоа што градот е опкружен со планини со снежни врвови, а сепак ова не изгледа клаустрофобично. И покрај тоа што Струга е мал град, сепак има динамичен ноќен живот, како што откривме по три ноќи забавување! Тројцата бевме во месната црква за Велигден и се изненадивме од посетеноста, која е многу поголема отколку дома. Го поминавме наредниот ден во Охрид и дефинитивно не нѐ разочара, секако езерото и планините беа диви и недопрени, и бидејќи се навикнав на животот во Скопје, се изненадив од зеленилото во Охрид. Како што се шетавме, небото постојано се менуваше и ни нудеше прекрасни глетки и по шолја кафе и муабет се подготвивме за уште една долга вечер на танцување во Струга! Бидејќи понеделникот ни беше слободен, планиравме да продолжиме во Битола, но како и што претпоставувате, се разбудивме малку доцна и имавме чувство дека времето не е на наша страна, па јас решив да го фатам последниот воз таа вечер додека Марта продолжи кон Битола и се врати во вторник наутро. Огромна благодарност до Моника и нејзините родители, до Филип и до сите со кои се запознавме додека танцувавме, како и до децата од купето во возот, затоа што овој велигденски викенд ми го направија многу успешен!

Influence of music

We already know that our voices have the power to convey emotion but the question is how is it that an instrument can, whether blown, hit, plucked or otherwise produce the same result? And what are the psychological mechanisms which lead to the emotional reaction of the listener? After 18 years of playing brass instruments I have learned the difference of playing well and playing with emotion and it is a gift I really appreciate. The ability to make grown men cry at a remembrance parade or to put a smile on a teenage couple experiencing their first rock concert is not, in my opinion, one to be taken lightly. Especially since music nowadays has become one of the most popular entertainments in our world.

Popular music started around the 1930s with a new and lively style called swing with notable artists such as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Glenn Miller and Ella Fitzgerald. After this rock and roll in the 1950s was targeted towards a younger audience with songs about teenage love and rebellion.

As Television and Radio had grew up with popular music is was inevitable that it would increase its influence as its reach was constantly growing. By the 60s there was a huge amount of rock bands and was also the start of what was called the British rock invasion in America thanks to bands such as the Beatles.

Throughout the decades up to the present day music’s influence has ever increased, this is seen through the sheer number of bands and singers that have emerged and advertising on the internet, newspapers, television and radio. Perhaps now it’s become too influential for people’s own good however. What I’m getting into now is the negative impact certain songs can have due to their lyrics. We all know there are songs that glamorise drugs and alcohol abuse, violence, suicide and sex, and just as music can give us happiness, nostalgia and similar emotions it can also make us sad, angry and in more serious cases depression and isolation. There are always stories by in the media that children are staying in their rooms with headphones on and becoming angry with everyone.

So who do we blame for this situation? In the case of rappers their music reflects their own experiences which would simply highlight the problems in society and not actually causing them, despite this the same can’t be said for other artists whose lyrics can be deliberately inflammatory. And let’s not forget the music producers who make money from a successful single ethical or not. Maybe we should look to the children themselves, there are so many other things which could affect their behaviour such as bullying. My last point is that the child in question has a choice. Either he/she can take these lyrics seriously and isolate his problems from everyone or they can simply ignore the words and enjoy the actual music been played. To write about music and its influence on us has been incredibly difficult, as I sit here writing this I’m listening to Amy MacDonald’s album A Curious Thing. And for some reason I can’t help feeling nostalgic despite this album having nothing to do with my childhood.

Dhe cilat janë mekanizmat psikologjike të cilat çojnë në reagimin emocional të dëgjuesit?

Ne tashmë e dimë se zërat tanë kanë fuqi për të përcjellë emocion, por çështja është se si është e mundur që një instrument mund të, nëse në lulëzim, hit ose ndryshe të prodhojnë të njëjtin rezultat? Dhe cilat janë mekanizmat psikologjike të cilat çojnë në reagimin emocional të dëgjuesit? Pas 18 viteve të luajtur me instrumente bronzi kam mësuar dallimin dhe duke luajtur me emocion dhe kjo është një dhuratë qe me te vertete e vleresoj. Aftësia për të bërë njerëzit e rritur te qajnë ne një paradë përmendja ose për të vënë një buzëqeshje në disa adoleshente per te përjetuar koncertin rok nuk është, sipas mendimit tim, një që do të merren lehtë. Sidomos pasi muzika sot është bërë një nga zbavitjet më popullore në botën tonë.

Muzikë Populare ka filluar rreth viteve 1930 me një stil të ri dhe të gjallë qe quhet ritëm me artistë të njohur si Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Glenn Miller dhe Ella Fitzgerald. Pas kësaj rock and roll në vitin 1950 ishte në shënjestër drejt një audiencë të re me këngë rreth dashurisë adoleshente dhe rebelizmit. Si Televizioni dhe Radio kishin rritje me muzikën popullore është e pashmangshme se do të rrisë ndikimin e saj se ishte vazhdimisht në rritje. Nga vitet ‘60 ka pasur një sasi të madhe të grupeve rok dhe ishte edhe fillimi i asaj që u quajt invazioni i pushtimit britanik në sajë të Amerikës për grupet si Beatles.

Gjatë dekadave deri në ndikimin e muzikës e sotme ka rritur ndonjëherë, kjo është parë përmes numrit absolut të grupeve dhe të këngëtarëve që kanë dalë dhe reklamat në internet, gazeta, televizion dhe radio. Ndoshta tani ajo është bërë shumë ne ndikim e popullit. Ajo që unë jam marrë derri tani është qe kane ndikimi negativ këngë të caktuara mund të ketë për shkak të teksteve te tyre. Ne të gjithë e dinë se janë këngë që reklamojne drogën dhe alkoholin, dhunë, vetëvrasja dhe seksi, dhe ashtu si muzika mund të na japë, dhe nostalgji lumturi dhe emocionet të ngjashme gjithashtu mund të na bëjnë të pikëlluar, i zemëruar dhe në shumë raste të rënda depresioni dhe izolimi. Ka gjithmonë nga tregimet në media se fëmijët janë duke qëndruar në dhomat e tyre me pufje dhe duke u bërë më i zemëruar me të gjithë.

Pra, kush nuk kemi fajesuar për këtë situatë? Në rastin e Rapereve muzika e tyre pasqyron përvojat e tyre të cilat thjesht do të nxjerrin në pah problemet në shoqëri dhe në fakt nuk shkaktojnë ato, pavarësisht nga kjo e njëjta gjë nuk mund të thuhet edhe për artistë të tjerë të cilëve këngët mund të jenë me qëllim inflamator. Dhe le të mos harrojmë prodhuesit e muzikës që bëjnë para nga një sukses të vetem etike apo jo. Ndoshta ne duhet të shikojmë në vetë fëmijët, ka aq shumë gjëra të tjera të cilat mund të ndikojnë në sjelljen e tyre si ngacmimi. Pika ime e fundit është se fëmija në fjalë ka një zgjedhje. Ose ai / ajo mund të marrë këto tekst kenge seriozisht dhe i izoluar nga problemet e tij nga të gjithë, ose ata thjesht mund të injorojë fjalët dhe ta gëzojnë muzikën aktuale. Për të shkruar për muzikën dhe ndikimi i saj mbi ne ka qenë tepër e vështirë, pasi unë rri këtu këtë shkrim unë jam duke dëgjuar albumin e Amy MacDonald - Një gjë kurioze. Dhe për disa arsye unë nuk mund të ndihmoj ne ndjenjat nostalgjike megjithate këtë album nuk ka të bëjë asgjë me fëmijërinë time.

Веќе знаеме дека нашите гласови ја имаат таа моќ да пренесат емоција, но прашањето е како може еден инструмент, без разлика дали е дувачки, ударен, жичeн и слично, да го произведе истиот резултат? И кои се психолошките механизми кои водат до емоционалната реакција на слушачот? По 18 години свирење на лимени дувачки инструменти ја научив разликата помеѓу тоа да свириш добро и да свириш со емоција и тоа е една дарба која навистина ја ценам. Способноста да ги расплачеш возрасните на некоја парада или пак да ги насмевнеш тинејџерските парови кои се наоѓаат на својот прв рок концерт, според мене, не е лесна работа. Особено бидејќи денес музиката стана еден од најпопуларните начини на забава во светот. Популарната музика започнала да се појавува во 1930те со еден нов и жив стил наречен свинг во кој имало многу забележителни изведувачи како Дјук Елингтон, Каб Келовеј, Глен Милер и Ела Фицџералд. По ова се појавил рок ен ролот во 1950те чија целна група била младата публика со песни за тинејџерска љубов и бунтовност. Бидејќи и телевизијата и радиото пораснале со популарната музика, неизбежно било да се зголеми влијанието на музиката бидејќи константно растел и нејзиниот досег. До 60-те имало многу рок бендови и тоа било почетокот на инвазијата на Британскиот рок во Америка благодарение на бендови како Битлси. Низ децениите па сѐ до денес музичкото влијание се зголемувало и ова може да се види преку бројот на бендови и пејачи кои се појавиле и се рекламирале преку Интернет, весниците, телевизија и на радио. Можеби сега музиката стана премногу влијателна на сметка на доброто на луѓето. Сега го гледам негативното влијание што некои песни може да го имаат поради нивните текстови. Сите знаеме дека има песни кои ја слават употребата на дрога и алкохол, насилството, самоубиството и сексот, и како што музиката може да ни помогне да искусиме среќа, носталгија и слични емоции, исто така може да не направи тажни, лути и во посериозни случаи и депримирани и изолирани. Секогаш има приказни во медиумите дека децата се повлекуваат во нивните соби со слушалките на ушите и стануваат гневни на светот. Па кој треба да го обвиниме за оваа ситуација? Во случајот на раперите, нивната музика ги одразува нивните искуства што едноставно би ги посочило проблемите во општеството, ама раперите не ги предизвикуваат тие проблеми. Ова не би можеле да го речеме за другите изведувачи чија музика е намерно провоцирачка? И да не заборавиме на музичките продуценти кои заработуваат од успешен сингл без разлика дали е тој етички или не е. Можеби треба да се осврнеме кон самите деца , бидејќи има толку многу нешта кои им влијаат на однесувањето, како што се насилниците. Последната поента ми е дека секое дете има избор. Или тој/таа може да го сфати текстот на таа песна сериозно и да ги изолира своите проблеми од сите или пак може да ги игнорира зборовите и да ужива во музиката. Да се пишува за музиката и нејзиното влијание врз нас ми е особено тешко, бидејќи додека седам овде и пишувам го слушам албумот на Ејми МекДоналд - Чудно (A Curious Thing). И од некоја причина не можам, а да не се чувствувам носталгична и покрај тоа што овој албум нема никаква врска со моето детство.

Birth of a movement not seen its fair value

HIP HOP

When people speaking about hip hop, often people refer to rap. This is only one component of the movement Hip Hop. The Hip Hop as a sociocultural movement was founded in 1973 by Africa Bambaataa, who founded the Universal Zulu Nation. The latter following the death of his brother, has set out to unite the bronx and make them evolve in a positive way, through music and not through violence.

Thus, taggers, DJs, rappers, skaters, musicians, joined together to form this movement (James Brown are also temporarily participated). Afrika Bambaataa define its movement like this: to out the positive side of life such as music, international unity, peace, mathematics, love, religion, breakdance, not using drugs, non-violence, graffiti, scraching, the Dj, the MC. These aspects are fundamental components of Hip hop and can’t proclaim "Hip Hop" that people who follow these principles. The hip-hop culture was first known worldwide for his music and is always associated, despite all the complexity behind his lifestyle. Although the graffiti has been spotted long before the advent of hip hop culture, it became in some ways his means of expression was the most palpable and revolutionized by it. Claimant’s slogan airbrushed, roller or brush to "tags" and graffiti drawn, the hip-hop was really upset this contemporary art to ten thousand faces. Ubiquitous in urban areas, graffiti allows the graffiti from the hip-hop culture to join a group or movement, to soak up its environment and make their mark. But opinions diverged on this issue, we can estimate that the graffiti phenomenon was born in the 60s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was then called bombing.

Cornbread and Cool Earl were the first two "messengers" of the bomb listed. They wrote their names all over the city to attract the attention of residents and the local press. The story does not specify whether these first two graffiti artists were behind the development of the phenomenon, but shortly after Philadelphia, it was around New York back in the dance of colors and aerosols.

In 1973, the New York Times published an article about a graffiti artist from Manhattan named Taki 183. He was a young runner who left his mark wherever he was to deliver documents. Gradually, all the media became interested in him and the youth closer to the middle rap soon made an idol. Late 1970 early 80's, graffiti became a phenomenon of society.

New York and other major U.S. cities were literally invaded. Thus, since that time, graffiti is considered one of the four disciplines of Hip Hop. Young player of the movement were quick to form crews (groups) and give them names. One of the first crews was the TAG which means Artist Group Tuff. The graffiti in the hip-hop culture are very often carry messages. Memberships in a group, his rebellion, his indignation, etc. are among the messages that we try and illustrate this, mostly successfully.

She is currently the dominant urban culture around the world. Too often associated with rap and some rather violent groups, the movement has sound values and tends to convey a message of love, peace and pleasure. Moreover, in each of the disciplines associated with culture, it promotes self-transcendence and the realization, which is a very positive message for youth.

Кога луѓето зборуваат за хип хопот, најчесто го поистоветуваат со Рап стилот. Ова е само еден дел од целокупното движење наречено Хип Хоп. Хип Хопот како социокултурно движење е основан во 1973 од страна на Африка Бомбаатаа а подоцна тој го формирал и бендот “Universal Zulu Nation”. По смртта на неговиот брат, главната цел на бендот е борбата за обединување на Бронкс и залагање за позитивен начин на развиток на општеството, преку музика а не преку насилство. Кон оформување на ова движење се приклучуваат и цртачите на графити, диџеите, раперите, скејтерите и музичарите. (Џејмс Браун исто така учествувал за краток период). Африка Бамбаатаа го дефинира своето движење како начин да се промовира позитивната страна на животот како што се музиката, интернационалното единство, мирот и диџејството. Овие аспекти е се основните делови на Хип Хопот и оние кои не се придржуваат кон нив не можат да се прогласат за “Хоп Хопери”. Хип Хоп културата стана светски позната и од тој момент натаму се асоцира преку нејзината музика, и покрај целата комплексност која го карактеризира овој животен стил. Распространети во урбаните населби, графитите дозволуваат графитите од Хип Хоп културата да бидат препознаени и да се приклучат во една група или движење, да ја впијат околината во себе и да го остават својот отпечаток. Но мислењата се поделени во врска со ова прашање, можеме да претпоставиме дека графитите како феномен за прв пат се појавиле во шеесетите во Филаделфија, Пенсилванија и во тоа време биле наречени “Бомбардирања”. “Пченкарен леб”и “кулЕрл” се првите двајца регистрирани “Виновници ” за гореспоменатото бомбардирање. Тие ги напишале своите имиња насекаде низ градот за да го привлечат вниманието на граѓаните и локалниот печат.Во прикзната не се знае точно дали овие двајца стојат во позадината на овој феномен, но наскоро после Филаделфија, овoј танц на бои и аеросол се префрла во околината на Њујорк. Во 1973, дневниот печат “The New York Times” објавува статија за еден графити артист со име Таки183. Тој бил млад курир кој го оставал својот знак каде и да требало да однесе некакви документи. Со тек на време, сите медиуми развиле интерест за него и младината поблиска кон рапот наскоро од него направила идол. Во подоцните 1970 и раните Осумдесетти графитите стануваат социјален феномен. Накратко после ова Њујорк и другите поголеми градови во Америка беа буквално нападнати. Поради ова, од тој момент, графитите претставуваат една од четирите дисциплини во Хип Хопот. Помладите членови на движењето набрзо формираа и именуваа свои групи. Една од првите групи е наречена TAG што значи Tuff Artist Group. Графитите во Хип Хоп културата многу често во себе содржат пораки. Припадност кон некоја група, побуната на артистот неговата огорченост итн. Оваа урбана култура е моментално доминантна во целиот свет. Премногу често поврзано со рапот и некои прилично насилни групи, ова движење е изградено врз цврсти вредности и има за цел да пренесе порака за љубов, мир и задоволство. Во секоја од дисциплините поврзани со културата, промовира само-воздигнување и исполнување, што претставува многу позитивна порака за младината.

BIGZ -THE UNIQUE FACE OF BELGRADE

Socialist “Power Structure” The construction lasts seven years, from 1934-41. Finally, in the early 40s BIGZ -Beogradski izdavackograficki zavod (Publishing and Graphics Institution of Belgrade) opens at 17 Vojvode Mišide Street.

It fills up with 3,000 workers for the next 40 years. Prosperity lasts until the ‘90s when the socioeconomic crisis starts drilling black holes that swallows the system. That is one step in Yugoslavia’s historical walk. Together with most of the former establishments, the BIGZ company goes off the tracks. Bigz stays nearly empty now for a decade.

Second Incarnation of BIGZ Small companies rent out some space here. But this 7-floor monster was designed for giants. Great halls, labyrinths of passages and multiple, spacious rooms have attracted a new generation. BIGZ rents about 25.000 square meters of usable space, mostly on the upper floors. Artists of all kinds have discovered BIGZ’s potential. When you walk in, it seems slightly ruined and abandoned though you can immediately see that there are professional banners of dance schools and creative workshops, NGO’s, design and sound-visual studio companies. While wandering around you discover more of the wall art and hear the music – from metal through rock, punk, gothic, reggae, experimental, trans to jazz. The artists are musicians, visual artists and other performers. On the top floor you are welcomed by pub Cekaonica (Waiting-room) that offers live jazz every evening. The minimalist style, piano, unique lighting and great music makes me feel at home there. Plus there is the terrace with the astonishing view of BGD and the Sava River. “If you are looking for jazz, it is the best place” – says Marko, a 25-year old student of art history in Belgrade.

What makes this massive concrete brick so special?

With French artist, Aglaee, we enter a vast room filled with mattresses, “swings” and juggling gadgets. Jay, a 27 year old Brit companiero, introduces us to the scene of Belgradjan circus people. After the poi and slacklining workshop, equipment disappears from Circusfera. Then the avant-garde design emerges in the different lights and sounds. Doors become open for everyone. A Djembe session is spontaneously starting. After awhile, 10 people are performing together. You can play, you can dance or you can eat delicious cake. One punk style woman cuts a beautiful fluffy cake on the counter and gives pieces away to the people. “Let’s go to another place” says Jay. The story continues and we discover other spaces with dj and live music. During the weekend many music studios turn into pubs and performance stages. The design and atmosphere in each is unique. We pass by many people in the halls. We talk to them. We even meet inhabitants of the building. Tamara is an artist in her fifties. She invites us to her room for tea and cookies.

BIGZ is definitely the alternative scene of Belgrade music. Its “alternative” status is confirmed by famous bands that rehearse there such as Stuttgard Online or S.A.R.S. The grayness is just a mask or rather the background for the vivid and creative world. Best discovering hours: weekend after midnight.

REALIZED LOCAL PROJECTS: SOCIAL CAMPAINGS

April was month full of events, activities, successes and end of our project “Bridging Divided Communities by Youth Work”, at least as first edition. Officially we finished with our meetings and training sessions, but that doesn’t mean that you are not welcome to continue realizing your ideas, to be active as volunteer... we made lots of changes in our community and we can keep doing it. On the very beginning everyone was asking how we can make the changes in our community and how we will realize our ideas, now when the social campaigns are done the answer is clear. 2-3 months ago were given brilliant ideas for small projects – social campaigns and everyone had a chance to take part in one or two of them, to join some of the teams.

In April we managed together to realize the following 4 campaigns: 1st campaign: 05.04.2012 – Move Up 2nd campaign: 12.04.2012 – Woman, Man or Human 3rd campaign: 17/20/28.04.2012 – Feed your brain instead of your body 4th campaign: 28.04.2012 – Giving it up Activities: The campaign MOVE UP!, had the aim to inform about student mobility, to encourage the students to take the opportunities for scholarship, student exchange or to take part in other program for studying abroad and have great experience. The main event of this campaign was organized at the Faculty of Law “Justinian Prvi” in Skopje. The Amphitheatre was full of students without any free seat left, and the speakers (which were: Prof. Dr Elena Dumova Jovanoska – vice rector at UKIM and promoter of Bologna, Mr. Jovan Poposki from the National Agency, representatives from VCS, MLADIinfo, ERASMUS student network ) said more than enough about the student opportunities, procedures, selection process, needed documents etc. Besides, on the very beginning of the event, were represented the results from the research among the students about the student mobility programmes, if they are familiar to them, do they trust them etc.

One week later, we had very interesting debate in Menada, as main event of the social campaign WOMAN, MAN OR HUMAN!, with aims on raising human qualities above gender identities, and combat gender stereotypes in Macedonian society. We started with screening of the short-documentary film "Woman, man or human" by Kalia Dimitrova and Sara Simoska , which had the aim to display the current views of people of different gender, age, religious and cultural background on the issues of gender relations, roles and identities in the Macedonian society, then a discussion was followed about gender relations, roles and identities, led by professionals from this area: Elena Spasovska (demonstrator at Gender Studies institute, University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius") and Ms. Elena Dimushevska (psychologist), and at the end of evening it was the screening of the animated film "Persepolis" (2007) - poignant and heartfelt story of progressive and rebellious Iranian girl during the Islamic Revolution, a film based on the autobiographical comic book by Marjane Satrapi.

The following campaign called FEED YOUR BRAIN INSTEAD OF YOUR BODY was realized in 3 parts.

The first one was the screening of the movie “Food, inc.” in Youth Culture Centre with discussion, the second was interactive lecture about nutrition held in the office of Volunteers Centre Skopje with degustation of healthy and unhealthy food, and the last event was on 28th May in the City Park where it was organized competition in eating healthy food and the winner received small award – 1 jar of honey.

The same day – 28th of May, was the main event of the social campaign GIVING IT UP, which aims to help the Educational Entertaining Daily Children Centre for Children from Street in Shuto Orizari, so it was collected lots of clothes, toys, shoes, books and food for the children. The children were more than happy. Besides, on the same day, it was promoted an exhibition of photos made by the children from the daily centre in Avtokomanda, organized by one of the volunteers – Sara Fantova Barrena (for more details about the exhibition and hot it was prepared please find Sara’s article in the previous issue of VOICES).

On 29th of April, officially we closed the project “Bridging Divided Communities by Youth Work” by small gathering at the coffee bar Led Zeppelin in Leptokarija screening the best moments of the whole project and all campaigns.

Maxime Gallasse Couple of days ago, I had a meeting with a graffiti writer travelling in the Balkans. I decided to make this interview in a simple way and ask only one question: how does it look one day of a graffiti writer?

FORBIDEN GAME

When I get up, my first idea is to go and take the pictures of the previous night, after that, I have to buy some sprays for the next session, so I go to the graffiti store. It’s cool and strange place in the same time, where the people know your “pseudo” in the graffiti world but not your real name.

Yesterday, after I did my shopping, the salesmen told me to come back around 7 PM, he wanted to introduce me to a guy from Belgrade, with the idea to paint a train in the evening. This is the best support for the graffiti (Today, I make graffiti on train in this town, tomorrow you will see my name in another city where I never been before!) So, during the meeting and after I’ve seen some pictures about the work of this guy, we went to buy some beer and then sit near the train’s garage. I knew this place, I’ve been couple of days ago to find a discrete way to get inside and feel the ambiance. Everywhere is quite same, dirty, scary, bad smell, can be dangerous to enter there.

If something will happen, we will run! All of us know and we love it, it’s like a mission, a game, except it’s completely real. Like every time, we were waiting until the night comes, the last train and to finish the beer. Then, the adrenaline becomes stronger and stronger, it’s mean we have to get inside now, check around and inside the trains, maybe someone is still working there, or maybe they have some security system. If everything looks quiet and calm, we can start but we will not stay more than 15/20 minutes. Usually, we finish almost in the same time and only in this moment we take some pictures with flash, maybe we will never see it again. After the session is done, the stress get down, we can smoke one and go to sleep because the day after will be the same, get up early, go in the train station to wait our train for the picture, one more and let’s do it again!
