Dear Friends, Thank you yet again for your tremendous support of VCU School of the Arts over the past year. Your generosity enables VCUarts to remain the number one public art school in the country and to attract and support the most qualified art students and faculty from around the world. There are exciting new developments at VCU, and they are possible because of gifts like yours. VCU’s Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA), under the direction of Dr. Lisa Freiman and in coordination with the ICA campaign committee, has raised over $31M to date toward the capital campaign goal of $35M! On June 3, 2014, VCU’s ICA took a giant leap forward with a vibrant and colorful groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by a crowd of more than 300. Markel Corporation executives brightened up the event, decorating the ICA site with colorful paint splashes that revealed the ICA logo. Architect Steven Holl was impressed with the ceremony, remarking that, “Out of the many cities I visit to be a part of groundbreaking ceremonies, this was the most special because of the compassion and commitment from the community.” The Pollak Society continues to benefit from your support and membership, and in turn benefits our talented and worthy student body through scholarships and travel funds. Donors like George and Nancy Woltz, who established an endowed scholarship for a Graphic Design or Fine Arts junior, remembered their experience at RPI as formative for their careers. They want today’s deserving VCUarts students to be able to achieve their goals too. The Pollak Society supported both individual students in need, such as Molly, a Painting and Printmaking student, who received a $10,000 scholarship that enabled her to continue her studies despite familial hardship, and a group of 14 students in the Craft/Material Studies program as they traveled to New York City to attend a lecture, three exhibits in Chelsea and a reunion and dinner with recent VCUarts alumni. The donations that you provide have a profound effect on all we do at VCUarts. You help to bring talented students to VCU, and support them in their studies when they arrive. You enrich student groups with travel opportunities. You provide young people with a foundation for their careers in the arts. You are changing the face of Richmond and bringing international attention to the region through your support of VCU’s ICA. For all you do, and for all you give, we are grateful. With kind regards,

THE POLLAK SOCIETY Members of The Pollak Society, the VCUarts leadership donor group, have insider status at one of the country’s best art schools. Members get preferred seating at all VCUarts events—concerts, dance and theater performances, art exhibitions—plus private tours led by top VCUarts professors and students, as well as receptions in the homes of other donor-members.
