As it is completing its 10 years, the society aims to make it grow bigger and bring it out on many different platforms. Brief 2 Brief Title: Penguin Random House Design Award Background: Book covers are the first point of contact between the reader and the author. Many people pick out a book after looking closely at the cover first as compared to the author name or book title. May it be old books or new books all need a good and strong book cover design to stand out from the rest. Just like last I chose to work on this brief again as it was quite interesting Audience: The chosen book would determine the target audience for the brief but it would be interesting to do an adult book cover having designed the children book cover the previous year. Mandatory Requirements: Creating a strong design for the book cover, which relates to the book and/or its author or theme. Not only the front cover but also the entire book jacket needs to be designed for the same. Timescale: October 2016(as written on the website) to March 2017(reference from last year) I will try to spend 1-2 weeks maximum on this brief because I want to keep it as one of my shorter briefs in my extended practice. Brief 3 Brief Title: Research Lead Brief- Interior Design/Graphics Background: Having done a work experience placement over summer I developed an interest in graphics for interior especially mall and shop interiors, which the company’s prime focus, was. I want to research into more such elements and create some interesting mall graphics and branding which could be used on all sizes and places. I want to focus on the graphic elements and use the skills I acquired during my placement to come up with a concept and design, which can be used for a longer period of time. I feel it is important to have a good concept and a good idea of where all the elements would go. I will probably choose the Trinity Mall in Leeds as it will be the easiest to do some on site research and take good quality photographs for the same. Audience: Depending on the mall location and city, the target audience is determined as these would use the mall on a regular basis. Mandatory Requirements: Depending on the photographs taken I will analyse the elements and locations which could have some design on them. Timescale: October 2016 to February 2016 October- Write a clear brief and finalise the Mall chosen October/November- On site research and taking photographs at different times of the day (morning, evening, night) try to go at times where it is less busy November/December- Finalise Concept and start working on initial designs and trying them on different elements and areas. Brief 6 Brief Title: Live Brief YCN/ D&AD Background: I would like to do a live brief for YCN or D&AD based on branding and packaging as this is my main focus area this year. I would like to do either a brief like the Feel Good Drinks brief I did which is quite open to what one can do, a Saucy Fish Company Brief which looks more closely into packaging. Also I found the briefs of fevertree and designbridge quite interesting. Audience: Depends on the brief. Mandatory Requirements: Depends on the brief but would include branding and packaging design. Timescale: October 2016 to March 2017 (reference to last year) Packaging design interests me a lot because it is more flexible on what and how you can design alongside having restrictions such as size shape and the brand identity.

Brief 7 Brief Title: Live Brief: 24th San Diego Latino Film Festival Poster Competition Background: Media Arts Center San Diego, producer of the upcoming 24th San Diego Latino Film Festival (March 9-19, 2017), is thrilled to announce its long-running International Poster Design Competition. Timescale: September/October 2016 to 10th November 2016 (Submission deadline) I found this competition quite interesting because it is quite new and different. Having never done a poster based on a film festival or even Latino theme I feel it is a new challenge for me that I would like to explore. I will try and spend 2-3 weeks maximum on this brief so it would be a shorter brief as compared to bigger competitions such as YCN or D&AD Vedika Kapoor Level 6 Briefs

Brief 9

Brief 10

Brief Title: RSA Awards- Beyond Borders

Brief Title: Research lead Brief- Dance

Background: This brief asks you to design a way to promote engagement between people of diverse background in ways that recognise difference, create connections and cultivate respect. There has never been a more connected world, whether through travel, trade, migration, education, or media. This truly global age has connected people and places in ways never before imagined, yet at the same time, there is a turn to more local commitments, anxiety about the loss of identities, concern that larger forces – cultural, political, economic and religious – are more a threat than a benefit, and fears, ideas and movements that turn differences into divisions and conflicts. Most people’s identity has many aspects, such as family and friends, values, gender, ethnicity, religion or belief, locality, region, nation, language, education, ability/disability, health, politics, and many more. Most societies are also full of differences that interact with each other in a vast variety of ways.

Background: Being into dance for many years of my life I have gained more interest in this hobby through being at the dance society down in leeds university. This year however I particularly enjoyed watching other societies perform at the freshers fair and would love to research into different dance forms and styles Audience: Dancers Mandatory Requirements: Strong concept. Timescale: September/October 2016 to February 2017 (depending on the brief)

Audience: People from different cultures Mandatory Requirements: Your response might be a new product, a service, a campaign, educational material, an environment, or even a new method of doing something such as improving safety or monitoring. Timescale: September 2016 to 8th February 2017 (early bird deadline) or 8th March (final deadline) Vedika Kapoor Level 6 Briefs
