THE DARLINGTON, DOWNTOWN ART EVERY TUESDAY By Veena Venkersammy Every Tuesday, just when you have begun to unwind from a long day at work, a weekly soiree kicks off on the rooftop deck of Perch in downtown Los Angeles. This event deemed 'The Darlington' has amazing live music, live painters, and some of the city’s best underground artists, not to mention a breath-taking view. Perch is located in the heart of downtown. It not too far from the Biltmore Hotel and the city’s well known Pershing Square. The weekly show includes curated art, jewelry vendors, and fashion designers. This event is hosted by the New York based Rock band Semi Precious Weapons and runs from 9PM-2AM. The Darlington had it’s grand opening on Tuesday July 3rd and has been going strong since. This event is about bringing unknown artists to the limelight. But most importantly, it is about having a very laid back and relaxed time. You are able to catch beautiful views of the entire downtown Los Angeles. In fact, there is a rooftop bar, which takes up three floors located on the corner of Hill and Fourth Street. I was also able to see a fabulous view of Bunker Hill to the North and Pershing Square on the South. I noticed that on the Eastern end, you can see an amazing clock and brand new million dollar hotels that have opened up. Overall the ambiance is upscale and classy, and it was great to see very talented artists coming together in such a unique space. The hosts- the Semi Precious Weapons- are a rock band from New York City consisting of Justin Tranter on vocals, Stevy Pyne on guitar, Cole Whittle on bass and Dan Crean on drums. They have opened for Lady Gaga for two years on the Monster’s Ball Tour. Vogue describes this band as “unashamedly crass and deliciously animated.” The Darlington is produced by Jin & Quinn and Creative Collision. Jin & Quinn have produced celebrity integrated branded lifestyle events in LA for years and their current clients include The Slayers Club, The Mondrian Hotel, Audi, Ducati, Fred Segal, The W Hollywood, and Samsung. Their most recent hosts include Adrian Grenier, Dev Patel, Emmanuelle Chiquiri, Florence and the Machine, Kim Kardasian, Lindsay Lohan, Mark Zuckerberg, Prince, and many more. Creative Collision has produced huge shows for Supperclub, Tru, Geisha House, and other popular Hollywood venues. Creative Collision encompasses the cutting edge vibe of indie art, fashion, and music in L.A. Creative Collision is about bringing together emerging artists so that they are able to show and sell their work. They also showcase upcoming bands and singers. There events usually feature live paintings and underground designers such as my favorite- hip urban retro designer Oliventa Clothing.
This event has no cover and offers superb bottle service. There is always a healthy crowd supporting and it is definitely something worth checking out your next free Tuesday night! The Darlington makes for a lovely night with very talented artists and an epic view.
