YOUNG KEEFA: Young Keefa, I’m 25 and my birthday is on January 13th so, almost 26. I thank you for doing this during my birthday month! I just started my own record label as well - CEO of Potency Music Entertainment, LLC.

JW: When did you begin your music career?

YK: I started taking my music seriously at the age of 19. A friend and I used to make music at a home studio, but we didn’t have the quality we wanted so we invested our money in going to a real recording studio. I started making music in Atlanta, GA.

JW: How did you come up with the name Young Keefa?

YK: My first name is Keith. One of the most potent parts of cannabis is the kief. I mixed them together. The Young part comes from my babyface. I have always been mistaken for being younger then what I really am.

JW: Are you from Nevada? If not, where are you from and what brought you here?

ended up here. Vegas is a mixed cultural place and has a lot of different things to do on top of being a legal cannabis state. It was a perfect transition for me, especially since I was already in the music industry. Moving around when I was younger really helped me at being able to adapt to pretty much any setting.

JW: What type of musician are you?

YK: I am a Rap/ Hip-Hop artist.

JW: What are your favorite cannabis strains?

YK: Bond Road Kush, Gary Payton, and Kush Mountains.

JW: Any favorite cannabis products?

YK: Mostly flower and anybody that knows me, knows it’s always in a big Backwoods. And, wax from time to time.

JW: Does cannabis help you creatively?

YK: Yes, it helps calm me down from overthinking. When making a song, I have so many words and ways I want to say them but when I write and smoke I definitely bring them together to make a record. When recording the song, you want to match that same head space and feeling you had when writing the song, so I smoke when I record as well.

JW: Do you support full cannabis legalization?

YK: Yes, cannabis is going to stop the opioid crisis. Cannabis is also going to help with debt as well because everyone smokes. Stabilization of jobs and cannabis helps medically. 1/1/21 will be 5 years no pills or lean for me, something that I’m promoting in my music as well. Kids and young adults listen to our music and want to be just like us. We have to try to set an example.

JW: Favorite place to shop for cannabis?

JW: Of the songs you have written/played, what has been your favorite? Why?

YK: "Make It" was definitely one of my more difficult songs. It was written from my life experiences which is how I write most of my music. During Covid, we couldn’t do anything so I had to change it up. Getting closer with my family and friends and just talking more really helped out as well.

JW: Where do you find inspiration for music?

YK: Living life is the best way to find inspiration.

JW: Favorite things to do in Vegas...

YK: Spending time with my girlfriend and family. Also, I like to hit Davidoff of Geneva Cigar Bar on The Strip and chill and write sometimes too.

JW: Anything you dislike about our state?

YK: We don’t have a cannabis hotel.
