GIANLUCA VACCHI WANTS US TO TAKE OFF OUR SHIRTS AND DANCE THE ITALIAN PLAYBOY ARRIVES FOR HIS DJ SET AT INTRIGUE NIGHTCLUB.
Spoiler alert for Gianluca Vacchi’s just-released track, “Viento:” It’s actually pretty good. In the United States of Cynicism, it would be easy to dismiss the multimillionaire as another in a long list of “famous for being famous” party boys who like to fiddle with a mixing board. But that would be undercutting what appears to be legitimate production skills and a passion for performing. If those skills are truly legit—and we’ll find out August 26 at Intrigue Nightclub—you can add them to a growing list of things that Vacchi has going for him. He’s rich. He’s ripped. He’s Italian. He’s got 11.2 million Instagram followers. His girlfriend is Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez (the one Steve Harvey accidentally crowned Miss Universe). He parties with Zac Efron. He eats breakfast in the pool. He’s sporting a collection of tats that rivals Conor McGregor’s. He once rode a Harley standing up and a Vespa underwater. At the very top of the list: He really does dance like nobody’s watching. The entrepreneur, born in Bologna, Italy, and reportedly worth as much as $400 million, gained fame for documenting his extravagant “no regrets, no limits” (and mostly shirtless) lifestyle on social media. In a nutshell, he’s basically “The Most Interesting Man in the World,” crossed with Don Omar’s “Danza Kuduro” video.

Exotic locales. Unnecessary stunts. Cars. Bikes. Yachts. Girls. Dancing. You get the idea. He also nearly died from a still-undisclosed bacterial infection last fall, but bounced back like a champ, returning home via helicopter, smiling with his shades on. As a DJ, Vacchi got his first taste of a large crowd on New Year’s Eve, playing a Great Gatsby-themed party at Switzerland’s Ultima Gstaad hotel. He followed that up with gigs in Miami, Italy and Azerbaijan, so scoring a coveted DJ set at one of the Strip’s most popular nightclubs—on the same night McGregor and Mayweather face off, no less—is just another win for British GQ’s “Coolest Man on Instagram.” It’s also a late-summer surprise on the Wynn Nightlife schedule, adding some variety to a lineup that’s largely featured an impressive, but familiar, list of headliners, including Diplo, Marshmello, Dillon Francis and David Guetta. Vacchi’s fame and penchant for “living life to the fullest” were catalysts in the decision to bring him to Las Vegas, according to a Wynn statement. But he’ll be competing for attention the same night as McGregor’s first “residency” appearance at nearby Encore Beach Club and a Chainsmokers performance at XS Nightclub. Vacchi doesn’t pack a catalog of hits, and outside of YouTube clips and the “Viento” music video, Las Vegas audiences really don’t know what to expect when he takes the stage on Saturday night. But doesn’t that make it so much more intriguing? –Jason R. Latham
CONOR MCGREGOR HAS A LAS VEGAS RESIDENCY?
THE MMA’S ‘NOTORIOUS’ SIGNS UP FOR HOSTING GIGS Move over Marshmello, here comes McGregor. In an announcement that harkens back to the days before million-dollar DJs were the Strip’s biggest draw, Wynn Nightlife signed mixed martial artist and (now) boxer Conor McGregor to a two-year residency. McGregor will appear at four post-fight shows at XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club at night. The first is scheduled for August 26, when he will face Floyd Mayweather at T-Mobile Arena. We presume that, as host, McGregor’s responsibilities will be taking the mic for a moment to tell everyone how he’s having a great time. Phones will go up, at the very least so fans can snap a pic of whatever McGregor’s wearing. His custom three-piece pinstriped “Fuck You” suit from the first fight presser is now the stuff of legend, and in the ad for his residency he’s sporting a fur coat à la Vin Diesel in XXX. But the announcement leaves us with questions. McGregor’s obviously getting paid, good for him—but will Las Vegas nightlife again start prioritizing celebrities over performers? We did this once already. It was called the recession, when just a sliver of notoriety (crashing a White House party, singing about your “Pants on the Ground”) was enough to get you a billboard and red carpet appearance, with the hope that a rubbernecking tourist crowd might pay the cover just to snap a picture. We’ve come so far since then. Yes, the Brody Jenners and Scott Disicks are still getting the occasional hosting gigs, but for the most part, Las Vegas clubs are enjoying an unprecedented run of award-worthy live performers. Could McGregor assuage our fears and also be a master of the mixing board? Time will tell.

[ POOL TOUR ]
THE AQUATIC CLUB
By LARRY BRAVERMAN Photography TOMO
THE PALAZZO’S ANSWER TO DAYLIFE AIMS TO BE ‘TIMELESSLY COOL’
WHEN YOU PICTURE LAS VEGAS POOL PARTIES, do you picture beefcakes and bikini models raging to electronic dance music as they’re soaked in a Champagne spray? That’s the image of Strip daylife that we see promoted on billboards and our Instagram feed. The Venetian-Palazzo had something else in mind when it launched The Aquatic Club in the spring. Tucked away on the north side of its massive pool deck—not far from the bass drops of Tao Beach Club—you’ll find a more reserved, refined experience, designed intentionally to mirror “the pool deck of an upscale boutique hotel,” according to Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Marchese. “The size and the scope of The Aquatic Club gave us the unique opportunity to selectively curate every detail of this area, to reflect the sport-couture, lavish lifestyle that inspired it,” she adds. “We were particularly inspired by photos of aquatic, racquet and lawn clubs of decades past.” It’s not so much a counterprogramming strategy (The Venetian already has Tao) as it is a reimagining of what daylife can be, coming from a resort that’s already undergone a bit of an evolution over the past year with the addition of Vegas Seven 2017 “Best of the City” winners The Dorsey and Chica.
THE SCENE
Occupying two of the 10 pools in The VenetianPalazzo complex, The Aquatic Club stands out with its retro cabana murals and signature navy and aqua blue color scheme. Marchese, who established herself in Las Vegas with the launch of The Cosmopolitan in 2010, describes the scene in two words: “timelessly cool.” “We wanted to cater to adults who want a dayclub experience without the frenetic energy that is often associated [with daylife],” she explains. Open Thursdays through Sundays, every day brings a different theme. So if you’re poolside on Friday, your mixologist might offer you a new drink during the “Connoisseur Series,” or you’ll vibe to tranquil electronica on a Saturday.
THE MENU
Poolgoers tired of overpriced chicken finger platters will be happy to know celebrity chef (and Las Vegas staple) Wolfgang Puck came on board to design the spread for The Aquatic Club. That means gourmet pizzas, sushi roll platters and nigiri samples, and a Puck twist on burgers, salads and other favorites. Bottle service runs from the hundreds into the thousands—not unusual for the Strip. Among the most expensive are a $10,000 bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII and a $25,000 6-liter bottle of Dom Pérignon. The Aquatic Club stands out with its specialty cocktail menu, featuring classics such as the Prohibition-era Bees Knees and French 75. Marchese recommends the Rum Punch and Tee Time, served in freshly carved pineapple and watermelon, respectively.

THE LINEUP
The Calvin Harrises and David Guettas are already off the board, having booked residencies with other dayclubs. But they wouldn’t be on The Aquatic Club’s radar anyway, as the music programming— featuring everything from global beats to modern favorites and even acoustic performances—is all about finding the right mood. DJs Mika Gold, Amanda Rose and Shy are among the residents who’ve performed in August, and The Aquatic Club has even brought in singer-songwriter and local favorite Patrick Sieben for a show. It’s all about creating the “perfect fusion of revelry and relaxation,” Marchese says. 7
