TECHNOLOGY Alloy AL-6061

An aluminum alloy containing Mg 2S silicides as its main additive is also referred to as Alloy 6061. Class 6000 alloys are highly workable, weldable, and machinable, which is why they are often used in the manufacture of bicycle frames. Thanks to their tensile strength and resulting workability, tubes made from this alloy are often used in hydroforming processing. The 6061 aluminum alloy reaches a tensile strength of 325 MPa and density of 2.70 g/cm 3 .

Hi-Ten Steel

Hi-Ten acronym stands for High Tensile Steel. Hi-Ten frames are just as strong and durable as Cr-Mo frames but noticeably heavier.

DEMA Custom Tube

We do not use any standardized sets of tubes for DEMA frames; rather, we adjust tubes (shape and thickness of walls) to the specific frame based on strength analyses and the projected design of the entire bicycle.

Double butted Tubes

The main advantage of tubes with narrowed walls (butted tubes) as compared to traditional tubes, is their lower weight while, at the same time, still sporting very similar, almost identical qualities as traditional tubes. Narrowed tubes usually have thicker walls at their ends, at welds, and thinner walls in the central, less strained portion. This type of tube comes with two different wall thickness sizes (Double Butted, e.g. wall thickness of 1.0 - 0.8 – 1.0 mm).

Hydroforming Tubes

Aluminum alloy tubes shaped by hydroforming technology are formed by the pressure of heated oil. A basic tube is inserted into a mold through which oil is pumped. The pressure of heated oil forms the tube to the shape of the mold. This tube shaping technology is a production process involving more than 10 operations. Hydroforming tubes are usually used on the frame, in place of upper or lower frame tubes. With some frames, a hydroforming shaped tube is used in place of the saddle tube (especially in the case of road bicycles).

Biaxial Tube Profil

Use of lower frame tubes with biaxial profile – with vertical dilation in the area where the tube connects to the head tube and horizontal dilation in the area where the tube connects to the central connecting piece – ensures significant increase in firmness in those parts of the main frame triangle that experience the greatest strain.

Tapered Head Tube

Tapered head tubes are designed to work with tapered handle bars, with the steerer designed to be used with a 1.5” headset at the bottom and 1 1/8” at the top. The primary advantages of a tapered headtube are to allow for the greater bearing surface and firmness of a 1.5” steerer and lower bearing surface while reducing weight and allowing the use of conventional 1 1/8” threadless stems. More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset. Also it allows a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain.

Heat Threatment

Frames from the 6061 group of aluminum alloys often bear the supplementary designation T6. In the area of the weld, the frame is weakened down to level T0. The lost strength and mechanical properties are restored thanks to heat treatment, by heating the weld to 130°C for several hours. After completion of this production process, the strength of the frame in the welded area is once again T6.

Comfortable Seat Stays

This description stands for functionally shaped rear seat stays made of aluminum alloy which – thanks to their “S” shape – more efficiently absorb and distribute vibrations transferred to the frame and caused by minor unevenness in the terrain and thus improve the comfort of the bicycle.

Standard Threaded Bottom Bracket

This threaded bottom bracket technology is used in both carbon and duralumin frames. All DEMA frames using this technology feature a 68 mm wide bottom bracket housing with a BSA thread (1.370 x 24 tpi), also referred to as an “English” thread.

3D Forged Dropouts

This technology offers the possibility to use heat processed 3D frame endings with interesting shapes. Their advantage, compared to milled endings, is the increased strength of the material.

142x12mm Thru Axle

The 142×12 thru axle is a self-centering system that could be installed easier than a quick release without any tools. The larger diameter thru axle means stiffer, stronger rear end of bike and less deflection of rear hub. It provides a safer method to secure the wheel to the bike guaranteeing against wheel ejection.

SELECTING PROPER BICYCLE SIZE XS/480

165-175 cm

The most important for comfortable cycling is the correct size and geometry of the frame. The DEMA Company marks the sizes of their bicycle frames as S, M, L, and XL, or in inches. Sizes of road bicycles are listed in millimeters. There are no precise rules regarding correct frame sizes nowadays, the result of various variations of frame builds. That is why the customer should not rely solely on frame height or saddle tube height when choosing S/16” a bicycle, since length and overall seat height change along with 150-165 cm frame height.
