Schoeller’s Coldblack™ technology Most dark-colored clothing absorbs 90% of the sun’s heat, but fabrics that have been treated with Schoeller’s Coldblack™ technology during the dying process actually reflect 80% of heat rays while also offering a minimum of UPF 30+ protection against harmful ultraviolet rays. The company keeps the technology a closely guarded secret, but the results speak for themselves: Temperature tests at independent labs found that a Coldblack™ treated jersey held under infrared lamps stayed 10°F cooler on the interior and 22°F cooler on the surface than a regular jersey.

In 1991 Descente invented the SeiRyu skinsuit. The suit was so fast and so innovative that it was banned for one year in order to allow other brands to catch up. One of the features of this patented suit was the “single sided raglan” construction. This expensive yet highly effective technique eliminates the back raglan sleeve seam, allowing for a more aerodynamic ride. Wind tunnel tests in 2005 at the United Technologies Wind Tunnel showed that by eliminating this seam, a rider could save up to 18 seconds over the course of 40km at an average speed of 30mph. The Tour de France has been won by less than this margin. This “single sided raglan” construction can be found on the Slipstream jersey as well as the Avanti jersey for 2011.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the 7-Eleven team, we’re reproducing a limited number of 7-Eleven jerseys and will donate $5 from the sale of each 7-Eleven jersey to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The Lance Armstrong Foundation is fighting to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. The 7-Eleven team was founded in 1981 and featured Eric Heiden, winner of five gold medals in the 1980 Winter Olympics, and many other top professionals. The team’s accomplishments are countless, including Andy Hampsten’s epic triumph in the 1988 Tour of Italy, stage wins in the Tour de France, world championship medals and several US Pro Championship titles.

We are proud to present this vintage 1983 Ti-Raleigh team jersey as part of our 2011 line. This Holland-based squad was the world’s dominant team for almost a decade, winning innumerable races. Descente is proud to honor this iconic team by partnering with the Davis Phinney Foundation and is donating $5.00 from the sale of each Raleigh jersey to this important cause. Davis Phinney was a legendary member of team 7-Eleven, battling the Ti-Raleigh team throughout the 1980’s and is now facing his personal battle with Parkinson’s. The Davis Phinney Foundation was created in 2004 to support Parkinson’s disease research and improve the lives of those challenged by the disease. The Foundation raises vital dollars to help fund the research of curative therapies for Parkinson’s patients and investigations into the causes of the disease.

INFINITY CHAMOIS: We don’t use the word “infinity” lightly, but that’s how long you’re going to feel you can ride in this chamois. With high-density inserts, perforation for breathability, a super-soft, stretch surface and 14 mm of open-cell foam exactly where you need it, this chamois goes the distance. Any distance.

STEALTH CHAMOIS: Utilizing advanced molding technology and materials; we continue to improve the Stealth chamois for a wide range of distances and preferences. It is formed in an anatomical mold with few components, providing a simple yet highly developed, lightweight pad for great protection and comfort. The seamless “monocoque” design works because it is pre-shaped to fit your anatomy. The different levels and foam thicknesses will optimize protection at pressure points and the stretch fabric is anti-microbial and highly breathable. The open-cell foam and perforation promotes rapid evaporation of perspiration, a key to the comfort of any chamois.

There is a fine line between “rack appeal” and how a garment fits when used for its intended purpose.
