Venezuela will continue to hold up high the flag of decolonization at the United Nations In addition, Ramirez called for the work in favor of decolonization to continue, since it is still an unfinished process, which currently commits 17 non-autonomous territories. In spite of these efforts, the process of decolonization remains incomplete.

With 18 votes, Venezuela assumes for the second consecutive year the presidency of the Special Committee on Decolonization of the United Nations, better known as C24, which is the body responsible for examining the situation with regard to the implementation of the declaration on the granting of Independence to colonial countries and people.

‘‘As we approach the third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism, we must continue our struggle to find appropriate means for the immediate and full implementation of the Declaration through dialogue and cooperation with the administering Powers, States involved in sovereignty and territorial disputes, including the deployment of at least one visiting mission in 2017.’’

On Tuesday 21st, with the presence of the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, Venezuela was reelected by more than 64% of the votes from the members of the Committee to continue in leading this work. Rafael Ramírez, Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the United Nations expressed his appreciation to the members of the Committee, who again entrusted the Venezuelan delegation to conduct the noble work of that body.

Ramirez referred to the past of the Great liberator of Venezuela saying 200 years ago when Simon Bolivar was imposed on the Spanish empire to achieve independence.

"I am certainly convinced that as I exercise my responsibilities, I will count on the full support and cooperation of all the members of this Committee, as well as other relevant actors," said the Venezuelan diplomat.

"Our Liberator (Simón Bolívar) did not only liberate Venezuela but also liberated 5 other countries, this triumph we obtained is also part of the legacy of Commander Chavez," said Ramirez. www.mre.gob.ve 2

Great Mission Housing: Venezuela reached 50% of the target set for 2019 This social program aims to settle the country's housing deficit, through a socialist vision, in which housing is no longer conceived as a commodity, the program is to be realized as a result of the joint effort from all sectors. It has also increased the state's capacity to project, build and deliver thousands of urban developments throughout the country each week, while creating employment sources and boosting the country's economy.

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, delivered on Thursday the keys of homes of 1,500,000 people built by the Great Housing Mission Venezuela (GMVV), to reach 50% of the goal set by the Bolivarian Government to be able to award 3 million houses to the same number of families by 2019.

Its implementation included a national registry, granting of land; Materials, machinery, inputs and financing for construction, as well as the active participation of the organized people, which has been responsible for raising more than 60% of urbanism.

The head of state moved to Cúa parish in Miranda state, to deliver an apartment to a couple, Johana Bello and John Delgado, who nine days ago welcomed a young daughter, Nicolle Paule in to the world.

In the last 5 years this ambitious plan has taken advantage of the spaces that were idle inside the cities to build urbanisms that contribute to counteract the country's housing deficit, estimated at 2.7 million homes.

"The delivery of housing number 1,500,000 is a world record. It represents a heroic effort. We are what we say and do. There will be no family in the country that does not have a dignified home for good living," emphasized the President, during the delivery of 250 apartments, of which 107 were awarded to young families.

The GMVV reached the goal of building 350,000 homes between 2011 and 2012 and exceeded 200,000 during the course of 2013, in 2014 raised more than 668,000; In 2015 it reached the milestone of housing 1 million; In 2016 it reached 1 million 100,000 households; And this Thursday President Maduro delivered 1 million 500,000 housing in the middle of an economic situation, characterized by the drop in oil prices, the main national income, and the constant attacks perpetrated by sectors of the right National and international.

President Maduro stressed that this act goes beyond the delivery of a house and that the act shows the opportunities offered by the National Government so that Venezuelan families can improve their quality of life. "Only socialism can make this miracle of the homeland. I thank the whole Venezuelan working force because they are the people who make the dreams of the people to become a reality and that the homeland of the workers lives!" he said in a joint radio and television broadcast.

Goals for 2017

The head of state announced that the Bolivarian Government plans to build and rehabilitate 1,090,000 homes throughout the country during 2017.

Housing as a social right

He said that through out this year, the Great Housing Mission Venezuela will raise a total of 540,000 decent roofs, while the Great Mission Barrio Nuevo, Barrio Tricolor, will be dedicated in reconditioning 550,000 houses.

The Great Housing Mission Venezuela was created by the Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, to attend mainly to the thousands of families that were affected after the intense rains registered in the country between 2010 and 2011, families that were forced to occupy lands not in good conditions given the impossibility they had for decades to acquire a safe and comfortable home.

"These two great missions have to expand, multiply and we have to perfect them," said the president. "This year, the goal is to build more than one million homes, repair and improve the living conditions of the people.’’

Subsequently, this aid was extended to all Venezuelan families who due to the high prices of the speculative real estate market have not been able to obtain a house of their own.

Kenyan Wilson Kipsang wins Tokyo Marathon

who clocked 2:08:14 to edge out Japan's Hiroto Inoue.Kipsang had targeted countryman Dennis Kimetto's world record of 2:02:57. Kipsang had targeted countryman Dennis Kimetto's world record of 2:02:57 and he got off to a quick start in the Tokyo sunshine.

Wilson Kipsang shows his target time of 2:02:50 during a press conference for this weekend's Tokyo marathon in Tokyo on February 24, 2017. Kipsang clocked 2hr 3min 58sec, winning the marathon.

Kenya's Wilson Kipsang stormed to victory in the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday in the fastest race ever run in Japan. The former world record holder clocked 2hr 3min 58sec over a flatter course than in previous years as he added the Tokyo title to victories in London, New York and Berlin. Sarah Chepchirchir won the women's race in a personal best 2:19:47 — the first sub-2:20 in Japan — to complete a perfect day for Kenya. The top six men's finishers were all Kenyans with Gideon Kipketer runner-up in 2:05:51 and former winner Dickson Chumba third in 2:06:25. Evans Chebet (2:06:42), Alfers Lagat (2:07:39) and Bernard Kipyego (2:08:10) all finished ahead of Eritrean Yohanes Gebregergish, 7

However, the tough running conditions were not favourable for a fast race. The 34-year-old's pace dropped over the final 10 kilometres running into a slight breeze but still ran a fourth sub-2:04. "I felt good today and I was trying to go for a world record," said Kipsang, who held the world mark with a 2:03:23 run at the Berlin Marathon in 2013 before Kimetto surpassed that a year later. "It was a little bit windy," added the London Olympic bronze medallist. "That's why I couldn't run that time, but I look forward to coming back and hope to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020." Chepchirchir left a quality field in her wake, former champion Birhane Dibaba of Ethiopia finishing second over a minute and a half behind in her bid to win a second Tokyo title in three years. www.nation.co.ke
