Despite the international powers pressure
VENEZUELA RE-ELECTED MEMBER OF UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL With 131 votes, Venezuela was re-elected Wednesday as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for a second consecutive term. The news was made official by President Nicolas Maduro, who praised the country's diplomatic victory despite the fierce campaign by the U.S. and international right-wing against the Bolivarian government. The overwhelming support of the international community will allow the country to keep its seat for the period 2016-2018, which will begin on January 1, 2016. The country is part of the Geneva-based Council since November 2012, when was elected for the period 2013-2015 with 154 votes in favor. "A victory for the Bolivarian peace diplomacy. Congratulations to Chancellor (Delcy Rodriguez) and Ambassador Rafael Ramirez and all their team. Long live the homeland!" Maduro wrote in his twitter account. This achievement is not a small one. The Venezuelan government has been subject to ferocious attacks by US spokesmen and international media corporations, often putting forward false information about the alleged violation of human rights in Venezuela. In recent weeks the US media fired their usual accusations against Venezuelan officials, this time aimed to Venezuelan ambassador to the UN, Rafael Ramirez, who on Wednesday did not hesitate to describe the re-election of Venezuela as a political and moral triumph.
"Imperialist lies and aggression against the homeland of Bolivar and Chavez, what they do is to give us strength in the world. (We feel) worthy and victorious," said the president in his twitter account @Nicolas Maduro after thanking the broad support of UN member countries. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez also highlighted the fact that the international community rejected "the imperial campaign of lies and slander against Venezuela." "They will not rule the people of Bolivar," said the Foreign Minister, who praised the recognition the peoples of the world made to the policy of respect for human rights in Venezuela. Four days ago, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister had announced the country's decision to bid for re-election as a member to the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2016-2018.
"Although the massive campaign of manipulation, here's the truth of the world. Today sovereign peoples spoke to express overwhelming support for the Venezuelan people," Ramirez told Telesur in Geneva, Switzerland.
"We know that the Venezuelan model is among the few in the world that provides warranty, the protection of human rights in its constitutional system and more than including them in its system we know that the issue of human rights is alive letter in the daily life of Venezuelans," said Rodriguez.
In the same vein, Venezuela's president wrote "the US government made a worldwide campaign against Venezuela in alliance with the right, but was defeated again by the Homeland of Bolivar."
After knowing the decision, the Chancellor wrote in her twitter account: "We appreciate the vote of confidence and recognition that countries gave to us. Venezuela's voice will continue to promote human rights in the world".
