is a platform that celebrates and promotes a broad spectrum of design disciplines across cultural and business spheres. Since 2010, VDW has taken place in Venice every October.

The timing is strategic because it coincides with Venice’s high trafficked season where the city hosts many architects, designers, art lovers, collectors and international personalities interested in visiting the Bienniale which carries on until November every year.

The Venice Design Week meeting platform creates new connections between designers, architects, producers, and the public.

The main goal of VDW is to divulge stimulating discussions on the many aspects of design, to promote young and talented designers and to create meeting opportunities between different stakeholders.

Venice Design Week is promoted by the cultural association, Voglia d’Arte and Archivio C. Montanaro, is supported by the City of Venice, the Veneto Region and the Chamber of Commerce.

Venice Design Week has connections with the most important Design Academies in Italy, England, Germany, and Spain, and is also connected to other International Design Weeks in order to create long term partnerships.

The VDW design competitions and calls are aimed at analyzing design trends, at promoting business activities and innovative ideas in response to companies’ needs.

The VDW competitions promote connections between investors and creators.

The Design Exhibitions are organized all over Venice, and they are indicated in the VDWMap. The VDWMap is an important communication tool for companies and designers that want to display their brands and products in unique and luxurious locations such as private galleries, historical palaces and boutique hotels, which allow for new chances of visibility.

There are interactive labs dedicated to architects, designers, and creators that want to discover new materials and innovative techniques. There are also workshops for kids that are organized every year during the Venice Design Week. These meetings are moments of interaction and discussion that facilitate and inspire new ideas and projects.

During the VDW, it is possible to setup specific guided tours at Venetian companies specialized in typical local productions, such as the renowned Venetian glasswork and creations of luxury fabrics. This is an opportunity for creators to know more about the Venetian tradition of glass and brocades.

Each year Venice Design Week renews its official guide:

VDW MAP! Every year, Venice Design Week will present and distribute the VDWMap during various Venetian events in local shops, labs, studios, galleries, and libraries that are part of our network.

Maps will also be distributed in hotels and strategic locations throughout the city as well as in other Design Weeks where VDW participates.

The collaboration with Design Weeks in different countries gives the VDW Partners even higher visibility.

The aim of this project is to create synergies and new collaborations between designers, producers, retailers and public.

How?

Along with our partnership companies, we are able to organize special contests with specific themes to obtain original ideas and products. The aim of this project is to promote and diffuse new kinds of technologies and innovative materials, but also through traditional methods, that if seen from a new perspective they can also be considered contemporary.

Winners of the International Design Competitions will be chosen by a qualified jury made up of a group of international experts.

The finalists have the chance to have their projects financed, to exhibit them during the VDW in very prestigious and exclusive locations, and to collaborate with a Partner Company.

The Design Exhibitions are organized all over Venice, and they are indicated in the VDWMap. VDW promotes meetings between designers and producers

In these exclusive meetings, experts on product industrialization start a dialogue with international designers, architects, creators, interior designers and students.

Through a guided tour and on-the-spot activities, the creators have the chance to discover traditional works in a very close and personal way and can build a new approach to traditional techniques.

>> Design a Museo Design in the museum Back in 2015, Venice Design Week began the project “Design in the Museum�, made to engage and invite designers and companies to exhibit their projects inside Venetian museums, as a way to solve typical issues of many museums and to create a dialogue between contemporary and historical.

Designers are invited to present their projects at the next edition of VDW to open potential collaborations.

The museums are asked to give their availability to develop new projects and connections.
