Heroes Teacher Workshop Saturday, October 17, 2009, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. $15.00 members, $20.00 non-members (price includes guided tour, workshop supplies, educator’s guide, and light refreshments) Explore the important role heroes play in past and present cultures. Participate in interdisciplinary activities and learn how to bring the world of ancient Greek and modern heroes into your classroom. Ideal for social studies, language arts, and visual arts teachers.
Customized Professional Development and Workshops Learn how to use the museum as a resource for teaching in the classroom. Tailored to your curriculum and applicable to all disciplines, these workshops are ideal learning opportunities for teachers. Integrating the Arts
Teachers.thewalters.org/resources This interdisciplinary resource connects the visual arts to social studies, language arts, science, and math. Featuring selections from our ancient, medieval, and Renaissance collections, the site includes interactives and printable lesson plans. Be sure to check the site in November when our new module on China is launched. Teacher training is available on how to use the site.
Integrating the Arts: Technology Workshop Saturday, February 6, 2010, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m., Free Receive a stipend while learning about arts integration. Focusing on the new China module of our education website, Integrating the Arts, this program includes an introduction to arts integration, gallery tours, ideas on how to make better use of technology in your classroom, and time to create an arts-integrated lesson seed. Participants should apply in interdisciplinary pairs (arts teacher with non-arts teacher). Application required, due by January 10, 2010, available at teachers.thewalters.org/development

Revive, Contemplate, and Integrate Workshop (Earn CPD credit) Apply to this four-part workshop, learn to use our collection of Chinese art, and work with teaching artists from Young Audiences ⁄ Arts for Learning to create arts integrated lessons. Participants should apply in interdisciplinary pairs (arts with non-arts teacher). Outreach Visits local outreach Extend your field trip with an outreach presentation at your school. Outreach is FREE and prepares your students for their museum field trip. A professional museum educator will come to your school and lead an object-based lesson. Check the appropriate box on the registration form. Distant outreach ⁄ Trunk Program This FREE resource trunk is designed to bring the art of the Walters to your students without leaving the classroom. Studio Experiences Enhance your guided tour by having students participating in a studio at the museum. Students will make personal connections to the art in the gallery and take their new creation home to remember their museum trip. Check the appropriate box on the registration form. Artist-in-residency program
mosaic masterpieces from Young Audiences and the walters Work with professional ceramic artist Amanda Pellerin to observe, analyze, and be inspired by the Walters permanent collection.
