Welcome Columbus would have loved ‘Rimore’: a name coming from a combination of Latin and imagination.

Going back 230 years from the far future, where inspiration sprang in the mindset of Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea could easily be an expedition for Rimore nowadays. With Captain Nemo behind the rudder, an adventure begins that will put on numerous points in the world’s oceans. Imagine a mind-blowing journey mapped out

by Phileas Fogg and Jean Passepartout: a voyage around the world in eighty days.

Wealth is of the heart and mind, not of the pocket.

Sharing is caring. With a shift of mind, individual opulence can be turned into prosperity for everybody.

See it as the discovery of Asia and America, as finding out the world isn’t flat. A brilliant idea or discovery that seems simple or easy after the fact: an egg of Columbus.

Rimore; the explorer

The name Rimore is coming from the Latin ‘rimor’ which means explorer, exploring or the explorer. Rimore is a privately owned research yacht that embodies the combination of leisure and (deep) sea exploration; a carefree quest for new life below.

Inspiration for the mind In addition to designing yachts in the classic Feadship tradition, De Voogt is increasingly asked to develop revolutionary new concepts. Owners are looking for new and meaningful experiences to invest their spare time. Feadship challenged Vento Design to explore trends in the superyacht industry and related domains in order to develop a fresh, but timeless, superyacht concept for the future.

The design is not made for a specific client, but rather to provide Feadship with new insights regarding the superyacht industry. The raison d’être of a superyacht is explored and the design is future context driven.

The presented concept design combines new yachting experiences, while maintaining Feadship’s core values. Innovative ideas and new technologies, possible from other industries, are encouraged as long as they are likely to be materialized in the near future.

A new mindset In the year 2100 the world is tapping on its last fossil fuels. The scarcity of today’s resources causes a shift in the mind state and attitude towards energy and consumption. Cities are huge and countries become agglomerations. You live where you live and within the metropolis you travel by means of public transportation. ‘The old roads’ lay outside the city and are still suited for cars. The super rich possess the means to travel to their ‘places’, scattered all over the world. Their homes serve as a get-away from the huge metropolises.

With more water being eminent, because of climate changes and an overcrowded earth, the sea is seen as an escape. People with money, the super rich, take life to the sea, because there is still space. The infrastructure in the cities is silted and overgrown. At sea there are still possibilities to move freely. Central places at sea are created for and owned by the super rich.

The super rich are fully aware of their social responsibilities. Materialistic things like owning multiple Learjets do not give satisfaction. Contributing to society, that’s what matters. The world, the society,

expects the super rich to be aware of their social duties, e.g. contributing to research, culture and art. Just spending money on useless things will be impossible to sell to the world and to yourself.

The waterborne entities will serve as platforms for inspiration. See it as a TED conference; surrounded by inspiration coming from all possible fields and directions. Inspiration will be the driving force to help the rest of the world. The rich will lead in this process.

Humans caused the climate change and ecological problems, so we, as humans, can also solve these problems. We have to invent and invest our way out.

The rich will work hard for the sake of the whole country. The super rich can provide jobs and create rebounding communities of inspiration.

Together we can fight pollution and poverty at the same time, we can beat global warming and poverty with the same dollar bill.

The waterborne entities will be something special with the brightest scientists, top performers and most talented artists.

The new get-away A design scope allows for carefully selecting relevant context factors and giving them meaning. The result of figuring out why people own a Feadship superyacht has resulted in the choice for the domain:

Within the future context that has been described, there are needs for certain relationships with products. The following mission statement embodies the quality of that relation:

2100 Ocean Explorer To make the leading role of the super rich more tangible, the 2100 Ocean Explorer concept gives meaning to contribution in the future context. The match with the values and believes found in the storyline are peremptory. The unconventional appearance and equal distribution of the upper and lower part, above and beneath sea level, make this concept so special, striking, distinctive and inspirational.

Investing in science is a necessity in saving the world’s last resources. Contributing to the ‘right cause’ means saving the poles and preventing further global warming.

The ocean is used as inspiration, main provider of energy and research subject for the creation of new forms of life.

The swell of the sea is used to generate energy and research findings are used to educate people ashore.

One of a kind Rimore The first eye contact with the staggering Rimore is mind-boggling. Is this really a vessel? Are we in Dubai? This is the first Feadship ever that translates a break-trough mindshift into form, function and design. The essence of the explorer is based on giving back and contributing to society. Achieving a state of happiness, wealth, in the broadest sense possible, is to share. The foundation of the concept lies in the idea of feeling esteemed and valued in intimate and communal relationships.

The origin of the shape is extracted from a bobber: equal parts above and below sea level. Practically not being possible to realize, this is the yacht with the largest below sea level volume ever. While most yachts look fast and very dynamic, the actual use is quite static. With the idea of a bobber in mind, the design embraces this praxis. With its depth of almost fifteen meters and a total height of fifty meters this motoryacht is not meant to go fast or dock into a

harbor. From a distance the astonishing appearance might look like a Fata Morgana that is almost to good to be true.

The size of the Rimore is overwhelming, especially when you arrive for the first time. A feeling of grandeur seizes the guests approaching with the tender.

Lab drive-in Arriving in the large in-door tender dock, at the heart of the Rimore, means arriving in style. The central entrance hall gives a warm welcome and creates an overwhelming feeling. The wow-effect of the spatiality continues when seeing the laboratory where all the researchers are working hard to translate interesting findings into meaningful science. Not knowing whether to look at the glass floor of the swimming pool, the huge glass construction - where sunlight is falling through - or the laboratory; excitement seizes you. Where am I?

Science matters Exploring new possibilities of what is to be found below, Rimore’s research department covers the geological, physical, chemical and biological aspects of the ocean and its boundaries. The deep sea is interpreted to be the ocean beyond the continental shelf. By serving society in the form of the search for new life, alternative energy sources or other unsolved mysteries; Rimore is leading the way for the new rich.

Next page (left) : Main entrance When docking inside of the yacht and stepping on the teak deck, the wideness of the entrance hall welcomes its guests. Wondering whether there really is a laboratory or not, everybody looks up.

Sunlight is shining through the immense glass structure; looking up 7 floors and seeing all balconies taper upwards until the top makes you wonder, is this just the beginning?

Next page (right): Tender space From a distance the Rimore looks like an impenetrable fortress.

When lying in a calm bay, the outdoor decks unfold to create an open and accessible lower part of the vessel. Sunbathing, water sporting and diving from the lower outdoor decks is possible. The decks are multi-functional and could also be used for research purposes.

Presidential suite In this pleasant and spacious suite, the owner may withdraw and enjoy peace together with his beloved one. The sleeping area is linked to a lower seating area where the panoramic view is enjoyed at its best. The suite features all standards that can be expected on a superyacht. The glass dome lets a large amount of light in the room, which creates an open character.

Next page (left): Research gallery All findings and results from the researchers’ hard work are carefully stored. The visual and written archive is meant for the owner to share the insights and new discoveries with his guests.

A day of deepening in the library brings a lot of new knowledge.

Next page (right): Dining The layout of the dining area is set up to enhance interaction between the actual dining room, the bar and the galley. Through the glass below the bar, the work of the chef de cuisine is visible.

The open atmosphere is complete when looking around and seeing guests at the bar, being surrounded by the spectacular view of the sea.

Research quest Lying in a calm bay seems to be the ultimate get-away for leisure and relaxation. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Deep below sea level research is well underway. The quest for new life and energy sources is a never-ending journey. While the owner enjoys the weather and the beautiful surroundings, he brings his guests up to date with the latest findings.

Night life The distribution of space above and below sea level creates a feeling of equality and makes it possible to connect with the sea.

The glass dome and inspiration room offer an astonishing view on the ocean.

Looking at the yachting world, you could say that in this case you are literally on top of the highest place possible. Relishing the view, nature, sea and company are taken to a new level.

Next page (right): Inspiration room Unwind and settle down. Get carried away, surrounded by the pure inspiration that the sea is. Take conversations to a deeper level or sink away in your own thoughts. As Jacques Yves Cousteau said: “the sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever”.
