Any Way You Want It Calgary’s Chiu School of Business offers unrivaled flexibility to its students “Because Calgary is a very diverse city, entrepreneurial activities appeal to new Canadians – Wayne Chiu being one,” says Dr. David Allwright, Dean of the Chiu School. “Students have families, higher education, jobs and community commitments, so we give them flexibility in scheduling.” And the options for students will only increase: soon 100 per cent of the programming will be available online. The Chiu School of Business also offers comprehensive advisory support. “Each student is assigned a student engagement officer who helps them plan their academic program and career placement,” says Allwright. “If you give students choices, you have to give advisory support as well.” More than ever, students have diverse needs. The Chiu School of Business checks all the right boxes for them: flexibility, career security and expertise.

ayne and Eleanor Chiu are two of Calgary’s most prominent entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Wayne, the CEO of Trico Homes, and his wife Eleanor founded the Trico Charitable Foundation in 2008 in the same spirit of social responsibility that makes Trico Homes such a success. In early 2014, the Chiu family gifted Bow Valley College with its largest single contribution, and today, the Bow Valley College School of Business bears the family name. “Our family supports social entrepreneurship and social innovation,” Wayne said at the unveiling of the Chiu School of Business in January. As a college focused on helping Canadians from all walks of life achieve their business aspirations, there couldn’t be a more appropriate alliance – or a better opportunity for students. Calgary has three business schools named after great Calgarians, as well as polytechnics and local campuses of other institutions. But for students eager to make a difference, the Chiu School of Business specializes in oneand two-year programs that will quickly prepare them for the workforce. The Chiu School puts students first – it offers a range of paths to rewarding careers, and it never stops developing new programming that answer real business needs, identified by industry advisors. Credits from the Chiu School of Business are easily transferable, and the majority of its courses are online.

Tailored to You The Chiu School of Business offers programs like event management, global tourism, human resources, marketing, public relations, health administration, insurance and risk management. The business administration diploma program offers nine majors, including the option to build a major of your choice, like a combination of marketing and public relations. “You know what kind of profession you want,” says Dean David Allwright, “and therefore you need to pick the courses that will most closely match your goal.”
