HOUSE FOR MYSELF RUA DO OLIVAL, LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Vieira da Silva - The Invisible Stroller (1949-1951)

The project’s main intention is to distinguish itself from the typologies commonly found in this area. Vieira da Silva’s paintings suggest multiple spatial readings, a quality evoked in the project. Thus, the program is no longer distributed through fixed floors giving place to multifunctional rooms. The height differences between spaces give them some autonomy and comfort, promoting a partial and progressive understanding of the house. The most striking space is the projection room that also functions as a work area. This room gives you different possibilities of light (light or darkness) and dimension (wide or narrow). Therefore, the house conceives a path that progressively reveals different universes. We only become aware of the street along the path and at its ending in order to feel the temporal and spatial suspensions the spaces propose. Sketches

LIGHTHOUSE SEA HOTEL MURRO DI PORCO, SIRACUSA, ITĂ LIA

Room: Transverse section

Rooms corridor

The main goal was to design a limit within a free landscape: to control the surrounding area where the sea abruptly confronts us. Working with the natural slope created a game of hide and seek with the view. The heart of the project is an open space where one feels surrounded by a continuous wall interrupted by a straight passage, contradicting the boundless sea. Therefore, the view is offered as a complement and as a reward of the proposal. One has to experience the designed spaces to get in touch with the existing elements. The lighthouse appears suddenly where the designed paths suggest a spatial abstraction, reminding us of its presence but carrying us to a mystical place.
