aUPA Project aUPA PROJECT
[Parenting friendly pop-up public spaces] Project funded by Bernard van Leer Foundation that launched Urban95Challenge, an initiative that works to promote the well-being of young children in cities from the prenatal period up to the age of 5. Facilitate and improve child rearing outside home and personal networks, developing a typology of parenting friendly outdoor facilities, designed to involve children and their caregivers in quality experiences in public spaces. Alleviating the shortage of quality public spaces allowing broaden parenting spaces outside home, which are useful as physical support for everyday life activities, enabling collective care and socialization, while encouraging mutual aid links. Facilitating proximity resources, public places close to home, on a neighborhood scale, to distances easily reachable on foot (300mtrs. aprox.) for people in special situation: infants, pregnant women, people carrying a child, elderly, disabled, etc. In contrast, there are in Tucumรกn approximately 1,200 properties, including unbuilt space and abandoned buildings, liable to become, at least temporarily, in spatial resources responding to the above outlined shortcomings: the Urban Voids. Given this scenario, we propose a new typology of temporary public space given the possibility of "self-managing" an own parenting friendly space through pop-up urban furniture collection, which can disappear and reappear in different parts of a neighborhood, turning any urban void into a child-rearing place. A comfortable space where and when caregivers want it, looking for "Autonomy" as an added value.

As part of the "Children's Day" celebrations, we participated in an event at Avellaneda Hospital organized by the Social Service of the Pediatrics Department. This activity was carried out in several of its Waiting Rooms. Pop-up intervention transforming the Waiting Room instantly into a play space. When a person is waiting for several reactions occur: boredom, anxiety, uncertainty, anger and in this case being a hospital waiting room, adds a discomfort, a pain.... but it happened that after participating in our proposal, several children said that their pains had disappeared!! Play and fun as medicine, as a tool to heal, improve and transform.

aUPA Walk aUPA WALK
A walk to experience and reflect together on how it is to take care of our children outside the home. Activity carried out within aUPA Project framework. A walking itinerary identifying the public spaces that are used in childcare tasks as those spaces and aspects that are problematic for this daily activity. We explored a series of vacant lots, unused spaces, analyzing their potential to be exploited as public spaces. It was a walk with children, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, aunts, people who take care of other people... on foot, in a stroller and aUPA. CARE NARRATIVES New radars evolve when we take care of other people. Searching for ramps, avoiding narrow trails, or crossings without traffic lights. Many times taking the longest road becomes the norm, due to accessibility problems, looking for the shade... Planning every exit from home. Loading heavily on the body. We have to solve everything alone.

OBSTACLES DETECTOR KIT
Obstacles Detector KIT A tool that aims to translate the "rules", that which is "technical", to a most popular language, easier to understand by all, when we talk about ACCESSIBILITY and UNIVERSAL DESIGN. It contributes to citizen knowledge and citizen role of oversighting public space. It is a kind DIY PEDESTRIAN AUDIT. It is a small box that fits in our pocket while walking around the city. It contains a few elements: a plastic cap, string, chalk and some instructions. These are not exact measurements ... but enough to have a SPATIAL NOTION of what is needed to ensure equality in the right to the city to the largest number of people. Precisely the intention it is to be useful as a trigger project, a mental impact, encouraging debate on urban issues; seeking raise awareness of citizens. Temporary intervention in public space marking the obstacles on sidewalks to alert pedestrians of tripping hazards. As a Tactic to Pay Attention, painting with contrasting color every protruding object, level change and uneven surface, that could cause trips and falls to pedestrians. Making the invisible visible and practicing the ability to see what others overlook. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to transportation, but there’s one that most share: at one point or another, we are all pedestrians. Becoming aware internationally about the negative impact that human activities are having on the environment, including high car dependency and their responsibility in the emission of polluting gases, there is a growing need to create a powerful new approach in urban planning in order to create a highly walkable and accessible city. Selected Project to participate in “DIY Studio, Creative Solutions for Development”, organized by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development. In September 2.013, Building the Void has become an Outreach Program for the School of Architecture of Tucumán, Argentina. TEMPORARY URBANISM Strategies for the temporary use of vacant lots. Public Space defines how we interact in society. A public good is public for its destination and use, and should facilitate the development of activities performed within a variety of environments, natural or built, aimed at satisfying collective needs. The purpose of this proposal is to employ the TEMPORARY USE as an alternative strategy that can enable capabilities of a city built and active use of its urban spaces. Taking full advantage of the city that we already have. TEMPORARY USE through ephemeral and transitory occupations of these spaces: empty lots, abandoned or just a temporary pause from one building to another, making them available to the citizens. Spaces that are truly for public use and in the service of the community, and without the execution of these final uses being mortgaged or diluted. It is a tactical way to intervene in the city to transform, improve, break or reinterpret spaces, where it includes the time as a variable and the real needs of the people, a day-to-day urbanism. Projects may disappear, but the spaces will never be the same.
LAYER UPON LAYER
ARCHITECT URBAN PLANNER
Layer upon Layer Work carried out for the Production and Monitoring Exhibition Workshop coordinated by Alejandra Mizrahi and Sandro Pereira. "... I am layer upon layer of different things, woman, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, partner, lover, friend, architect, student ... Layers that make me, hold me, set me free, support me... Layers that overlap, mix, entangle, are merged into the same story: MY PRESENT. The common thread, a story of EMPTINESS. EMPTINESS to fill, to occupy, to populate, to inhabit ... temporarily. The temporary as a state of continuous transformation. EMPTY bodies/ EMPTY urban spaces / symbolic EMPTINESS
www.trecediecinueve.wix.com/1319x
It turns out that these three layers tell, show and describe MY PRESENT: _when pregnant: my uterus, that EMPTY body fills and completes me with a Human Being, that to keep alive daily Heparin Injections are necessary. Temporary occupation of my body. _As an architect: vacant lots, these EMPTY urban spaces, which are filled and complete with Injections of Actions. Temporary and ephemeral occupations of private space to be used as public space. _As a metaphor: air bubbles, this symbolic EMPTINESS filled and complete with Color Injections. Color that symbolizes life. The link between the other two layers. Temporary occupations until someone can't resist the temptation to pop the bubbles to calm their anxiety. My TODAY, inject LIFE ‌

A tool, like a periscope, which allows you to see situations and real spaces, and the possibility to move virtually into other areas that are unachievable at first sight. The action aimed to highlight those empty spaces we pass through every day and we can't not see because they are hidden behind a wall, a fence, a sheet. Boundaries between public and private.

Modern TIMES. Lack of time, stress and loss of quality of life. The current pace of life does not allow mental and physical rest and confronts us with a new scenario: the average lifespan increases, but the quality of life decreases. Lost TIMES. An average citizen spends five years of his life waiting in different queues, to receive a service, to be attended. When a person is waiting, several reactions occur. From an emotional point of view: boredom, anxiety, uncertainty, anger, and in terms of behavior: complaints, frustration or desertion from service. TIMES of changes, big changes. Faced with a situation of waiting, the passage of TIME will be pleasant, will be beneficial, will be transformative, will be USEFUL, WORTHIWHILE and PRODUCTIVE. Wait and do not Despair is a proposal to waiting situations that generates long queues of people in public spaces. Take advantage of that time, which is perceived by the people waiting, as lost time, as dead time, to transform it into valuable and encouraging time for personal mutation.

Draft presented in the context of the Competition “Experimental Social Housing organized by the Central Society of Architects SCA Argentina. The architectural project option proposed: public property of all spaces including private spaces. We started from the idea of combining concepts of simultaneity and exchange. From minimum housing to multiple housing. Capable of multiplying spaces and their benefits. It is not to understand housing as a system of spaces, but as a synergy of habitats. Multiplicity. Housing as open space for a combination of uses, programs, people and activities. Capacity for transformation, adaptation and change. It is not the aim of the program to function specifically for each space, but to give the user the possibility of definition and determination of them according to the needs or future adaptations to each group members.

STATIC MOVEMENT
Static Movement Project presented for Petrobras Award in the Exhibition Arte BA (Buenos Aires) - 2009 Edition. Paradoxical and absurd expression…moving and being stopped at the same time? Move, change position without taking a step, managing to project yourself, going beyond what is possible. Virtually achieve freedom. Many times we are confined by choices, personal or other, in an intimate place, surviving within the walls of a room. Try to approach the outside from the inside, is the main idea of this proposal. Static Movement is an installation whose main characters are periscopes, with which we are able to see the inaccessible, peek into other worlds, move to other spaces without moving, always being in the same place. This allusion to an optical instrument metaphor gives us the possibility of seeing the world through the eye of a periscope and taking a peek into the “other side”, discovering that in the end those places, which sometimes seem so far, are at our fingertips. The installation recreates a bedroom in use from which sprout “Periscopic-Flowers”, located in different areas of the room. …Perhaps our ancestors may “periscope” the sky through the flowers... www.trecediecinueve.wix.com/1319x
TO BE - TO PLAY - TO EAT - TO SEE - TO COMPLEMENT Product of the natural tendency of the human being to change place in order to benefit and enjoy the goodness of other * places than those lived in, giving rise to temporary and voluntary displacement with the intention of modifying the linear and cyclical routine. Create INTERFERENCE, ruptures, alterations. Causing us to look at some detail of everyday life or just that we feel it differently, allowing us to have an experience within it. Offer alternatives, not necessarily isolated, but compatible with each other according to a particular place and time. Propose spaces that respond to the need of people in society. . . . RE-PUBLIC GARDEN
Re-Public Garden IIntervention proposed for “ Tangent Sites 2008 Project Competition Public Artistic Interventions” The Garden of the Republic, an epithet that Domingo F. Sarmiento awarded to our Province, in homage to its lush vegetation of great beauty and variety. Tucumán is part of this imaginary garden that was, and is still, symbolically recognized. Today more than ever, however, the symbolic aspect of Tucuman as the Garden of the Republic, is devastated. If we understand garden meaning a fertile ground where plants are grown in general, then we can think that Tucumán does not respond to this epithet. This is due to the excessive urban concentration, a response to an irrational development, where increasing population density generates a chaotic habitat that has both physical and psychological consequences for its inhabitants.
www.trecediecinueve.wix.com/1319x
The proposal was to intervene ephemerally in public spaces, giving visibility to this issue and generating the reflection of the inhabitants. Replacing those spaces in which “patches of cement” border useless natural patches of turf.
