HELLO My name is Veronika Bojic, and I am a second year student at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. Through my studies, I have been exposed to the world of architecture and design. I am driven by my passion to learn and to create, while exploring how and why the human body interacts with space, and how design can manufacture experiences. My strong dance background has only fuelled my passion for design, and I am able to apply that knowledge to my work. The following pages include my recent work for your consideration. Sit back, relax, and enjoy, as you gather some insight into my design journey. I hope to hear from you soon.

MONTAGE
1B DESIGN STUDIO Individual Project
män ‘täZH,mōn-,mōN-/ noun 1. A composite of closely juxtaposed elements, that form or are felt to form a unified whole.
PROJECT BRIEF The objective of this project was to provide a mid-rise residential and commercial space that would compliment the colourful lifestyle of St.Clair Ave West in Toronto. Thus, combining multiple typologies allowed the creation of an urban setting where the contrast between
the townhomes and tower is evident through materiality and design, ultimately capturing the diversity of its site. The communal commercial space shares the two contrasting elements and is placed near the corner of Raglan Ave and St. Clair Ave, in order to enhance accessibility
from the main street. The three townhomes and tower are accessible from the alley, and face North. Their orientation takes advantage of Northeast sunlight and their views are protected from potential development.

URBAN FRAMES
SSEF COMPETITION 2014
Partnered with Brian Chen
PROJECT BRIEF The SSEF Design Competition’s challenge for 2014 was span. In order to fulfill the requirements, my partner and I created the concept of a multi-use pedestrian bridge that promotes the notion of a two-way picture frame. From below, the general public views the crossing from different methods of transportation. In their frame, pedestrians can either be crossing
the bridge, standing and observing the streetscape below them, or sitting and enjoying the moment. From above, the public has a view of the street. The tilted glass was installed to provide a stronger relationship to the urban environment below. Structurally supported by steel, the public can safely lean against the glass and have an unlimited view of the ground below. The bridge lights
up at night, and fits nicely with it’s urban surroundings. The picture frame becomes a movie screen, as the public who use the bridge create motion pictures. Urban Frames is a bridge meant for any urban environment. It allows people to step back from their daily lives and view it from above.

The bridge primarily uses steel construction, with two steel columns on either end, concrete for stairs with glass railings, and wood decking supported by steel joists. Large sheets of glass are installed on either side, and used as windows. Steel frames support the notion of different perspectives
from being on the interior and exterior of the bridge. The bridge is also split into two levels, with a lowered sitting area. Including the stairs, this bridge is 20m long and 5m wide, large enough to span across a four lane arterial. It is 5m in height, accomodating any large trucks.

HAMMOCK HUT MANAUS The Amazonas, Brazil

ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN Individual Project
HOT- HUMID
Latitude Longitude
Tropical
PROJECT BRIEF The basis of this project was to design a space for temporary occupation that environmentally corresponds to the needs of its climate. Ultimately, I designed for the hot-humid climate of the Amazon Rainforest near
Manaus, Brazil. The materiality and vernacular architecture was specifically chosen to fit the criterea of a hot-humid climate. A part from the technical aspects, creating a unique atmosphere was essential to the
project. Therefore, having a net-like hammock built into the floor of the structure provides the user to experience a rare moment within the jungle.

PROJECT BRIEF The concept of this project was creating a prefabricated window that could easily be delivered and assembled for the user. However, beyond the prefabricated aspect of this project, there is a more intimate discovery associated with the window.
Essentially, the window acts as an eye, allowing the viewer on the inside to see public moments on the ouside. In contrast, viewers on the outside can see personal moments on the inside. Therefore, the eyes in the human body provide the relationship that connects the outside to the
inside, much like the windows of a building provide that opportunity. It is proven that the structure of the eye is linked to one’s personality. If we regard the window as a part of the structure of a building, we begin to explore that language and develop its personality.

The shelving above and to the side of the unit allow for ample storage. The vertically arranged shelves on the right allow light to pass into the room while still maintaining their convenience.
DAYTIME
The shelves also provide a backrest if the user chooses to occupy the bench in a sitting position. The option to recline is also presented with space underneath the shelves for those with longer legs.
NIGHT-TIME
The bench at 75cm wide, provides enough space for multiple users as well as decoration, including pillows as shown.

ARTIST’S RESIDENCE
1A DESIGN STUDIO Individual Project
PROJECT BRIEF The essence of this project was to design a residence that would be occupied temporarily for either a writer, an artist, or a composer. I based my project to suit the ambitions of a writer. The site is located on a small lake near
Cambridge, Ontario. The residence itself is built upon a marshy, wetland area that transitions into the water. The residence itself must provide a studio space that is separate from the living space. The living space has minimal dining requirements, for
the main meals are provided at the main house on the site. Ultimately, I wanted the house to follow a similar path of a writer’s mind at work. This project was hand- drawn.

A marsh surrounds the back of the residence, which eventually leads to a forested hill. A dock leads the resident from the lawn of the main house to the front door, through the wetland area. The other side of the house has a glass stairwell that allows in morning light to the kitchen and bedroom.

A dock extends from the dining area, and leads out onto the lake. It promotes a sense of direction within the residence, guiding the occupant towards the body of water. The studio rests above the dock, allowing sunlight from all hours to enter the space.

PAINTING, POETRY
What beauty beholds my critical eye? Definitions so vast, as grand as the sky. Admiring glances follow her as she walks, Seeing her float upon jagged rocks. Alluding to a soft, and temperate breeze, Caressing their bodies with a gentle ease, But strong gusts can blow in a driven style, And that tempest she bears is hid by a smile. Her eyes tell her tale, for they lead to the soul, And what I witness is dark, a thriving black hole. Yet they twinkle like stars in the evening night, So lustrous and big, and painfully bright. Her voluminous locks cascade down her back, And fall like a wave that has yet to attack. Each hair on her head is spun with pure gold, A craftsman’s work with secrets untold. She holds her shoulders, proud and square, And with her tenacious stance, she gives them a glare. It’s like she’s a cloud, so angelic and free, That can bring thunder and rain so easily. Still her profile is sweet, like the morning dew, While I beg and plead that they only knew, A woman is judged by her outer bark But it is the honey inside that let the bees leave their mark.
