SITE The site is located right next to the city center of Brno therefore is easily accessible and it happenned to become one of the main transport axis connecting the center with the east parts of the city. The street Milady Horákové was artifically broke through in 1939 for the purpose of an easier car and tram transportation. The street is strongly sloping in the direction out of the center and on the sides. There is a Children‘s Hospital on the northern side of the street, opposite of the hospital there is an inaccessible vacant plot of greenery and few small solitary buildings such as kindergarten or private garrages. REGULATION PLAN The main goal of the regulation plan is to complete the city block of houses that are typical for the historical city structure, to increase the density of the site and to make the street Milady Horákové an avenue which is not going to be just a transport link between the city centre and the suburbs as it is now. The mass is devided into two parts; one consists of spaces designed mostly for commercial purposes and is not strictly limited by the height of the buildings. The corner is emphasized by the tower. The second mass is lower and is concieved as a space with major function of housing. There is a space for outside public life on the corners of the block which can be used as outdoor café, meeting point.. REGULATION PLAN THE KEY

HOUSING DEVELOPEMENT The building developement is concieved as multifunctional block of houses with major function of housing. The ground floor can be used for commercial or service purposes, kindergarten space or offices. Thanks to combining various functions the block contributes to vivid life and makes the city built-up area complete. All apartments are oriented to the private gardens or street. The design offers various floor area and size of apartments starting from small studios up to 5 bedroom apartments, which are located in the upper floors of lucrative dominant tower. Rental flats will be also provided just as opportunity of co-housing. Last storeys of apartments which can be pushed behind the street line offer more private and calm space for a terrace with a wonderful view of the city. The height of the developement is convieved as nonuniform. The BLOCK 1 which is characteristic by the dominante tower creates an orientation point in the site. The tower is designed as 10 storey construction. The BLOCK 2 which serves mostly fo housing is limited by 6 or 7 storeys.

SUSTAINABILITY CO-HOUSING MODULAR-SYSTEM
Living in 2050? People are moving to cities like never before. The urban population nowadays has multipled 5 times since 1950 which means that more than a half of us live in the city today. If population growth will increase as predicted, by 2050 will be living in cities other 2,5 billion people. Regarding this situation, future cities need to be ready for this to prevent themselves from a lack of affordable housing and social problems. However, Is there enough urban space for all the people willing to live there? For our project we were trying to find a particular suitable urban spaces around us for living extensions which are not being used today and which we see a big potential in. For this purpose we chose exposed facades with no windows (often oriented to the south) of panel buildings at housing estates which have been widely built in our country and do not help with creating a pleasant urban environment.

The main idea of the project is to use these spots for placing our modular constructions, use the unused cardinal point, also bring other functions to these monopurpose panel blocks and to increase density of urban population by a concept of co-living spaces. The construction and dispositional solutions we propose is designed in 3x3 metres module, because it can be applied to most of existing panel buildings at housing estates. Project also takes into consideration the need of building sustainable architecture. In this project we designed a wooden frame construction offering modular system and a group of simple box units consisting of various functions and dimensions that we use to compose particular apartments. This concept allows us to assemble various apartments depending on demand. circ

Regarding the population growth and lack of affordable housing the project is based on coliving society which offers lower outcomes, lowers built-up area and also prevents from social isolation. According to a data from a public research people will be most likely willing to share a kitchen, common expenses and facilities.

Therefore our project offers shared walkthrough kitchen among every two apartments on each floor, shared enclosed balcony is also provided. By sharing all of these spaces we are able to reach spatial, economic and energy savings. Thanks to the modular system there is a lot of variations of common spaces and area and composition of the apartments. Possible is also a maisonnette which offers bigger living area.

URBAN DESIGN The main goal of the concept is to design a logical development on the existing vacant spaces , to follow the existing pedestrian axis and to extend them to the riverfront. The street Mlýnská leading straight from the Brno city center is extended and is connected with the existing cyclopath to create a new public space. The height differences between the street and the waterfront is solved by a representative public stairway which is opening to a beautiful view of the river side.

The underground parking is designed for 135 parking spaces for the inhabitants, visitors and the supplying including collecting of the waste.

There are two driveways entering the parking from the Zderadova street. All the houses and rental spaces are accessbile from the parking. The grid of columns is designed dependantly on the widths of the houses in 6,5m and 8m distance.

DIVERSITY The public space of waterfront can be designed in various versions depending on the needs and the purpose of the rental places. The diversity of public space contributes to more vidid environment. Our design proposes for example a jetty, greenery or the stairs with seating.

The design of the development along the waterfront is concieved as a row of terraced houses which overlook the river and the promenade connected with a cyclopath. The ground floor which is accessible from the waterbank area serves as rental space for services, bistros or other related functions. The entrances to these spaces are sheltered with a cantilever made by the mass of houses stepping forward the line. The line of planted trees is there to emphasize the city character.
The houses have common dimensions and height regulations but the facade, materials or the floor plans are dependant only on the particular design, therefore the whole row stays diverse and unique despite the uniform volume. The width of every single house in the row is based on the column grid in the underground, therefore the widths are determined by the multiple of 6,5m or 8m.

DESIGN The house is situated in the middle of the row of terraced houses right next to the river Svitava and it offers only two facades facing east (the river) and west. The main idea of the design is to create a part of a new facade which allows to use another cardinal point (south), to offer various layouts and to emphasize the unique location on the waterfront by the system of terraces which offer private outside space with beautiful view of the river. The terraces are an outdoor extension of an interior of the apartments and they are connected to the living room and dining room with a glass wall opening the interior to the exterior. The apartments facing west have a loggia what protect them from a strong sun and wind. In th last two storeys there are situated an apartments enlighted from the both sides and therefore offer the sun during the whole day.

FLOOR PLANS The house has 5 storeys and a basement serving for a parking and commerce. In the center of the layout there is a building core which is enlighted by a skylight. There is eight apartments (2 or 3 bedrooms) either with a terrace or a loggia and slightly different floor plan. STRUCTURE The materials of the load bearing walls chosen for the design are sand-lime masonry insulated with a mineral wool insulation. The facade is designed as a fibre-cement board tiling of two colours and different finish. The floor slabs are made of in-situ concrete just as the foundations and the underground part of the structure. The terraces are beared by the steelbeams. All windows are provided by triple-glazing and a security glazed rail

Hotel Kerling is supposed to be the gate of the city of Banská Štiavnica, the crossroad where old and new will meet. Nowadays there is nothing but a building from the 90s, which seems to be put together by accident, and an empty land without any function. That is why we design two complementary forms which recreate characteristic lines of an old town streets and aim to visually enclose an interior court. Coming from the old town and going down the Dolná street, the main frontal facade of Kerling welcomes you. The element of „trottoir“, characteristic elevated path in Štiavnica, which has the added function such as meeting point or public place, is present along the Dolná street and is opened in one point to a multifunctional public plaza. This place will be a symbol of the gate, where all kinds of performances and events will take place. The pulsing heart on the crossroad of the city.
TWO BLOCKS The first building contains spaces for the hotel Kerling including apartments. At the back side facing the old tabacco factory there is a community center at the ground floor and co-working spaces at the first floor. The second mass, opening to Dolnรก street, is designed as a polyfunctional building. There are commercial spaces accessible from a trottoir and the upper floors are created as a groups of flats for singles or couples, young or elder people. The semipublic spaces are designed between those two masses as a green space with relaxing areas, playground for children, workout or grill point which inhabitants and visitors can share. This semipublic area leads to the public one, which adopts the function of a main meeting place for tourists, inhabitants and everyone who is interested in spending time here.

Each floor of flats in the block has a shared space which can be modified by users preferencies – it can serve as a studio, working place, private library, common space for movie evenings or for casual meetings. The upper floor of flats enables some other custom combination – three types of flats with a shared atrium where inhabitants can meet at semiprivate level. Underground floor offers up to 98 parking lots for residents, hotel guests and tourists.

SPORT CENTRE COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES MEETING POINT
Sokolovna in Czech republic The Sokol movement [czech; sokol = falcon] is an all-age gymnastics organization first founded in Prague 1862 by Miroslav Tyrš and Jindřich Fügner. It was based upon the principle of „a strong mind in a sound body“. The Sokol, through lectures, discussions, and group outings provided what Tyrš viewed as physical, moral, and intellectual training for the nation. This organisation has its long tradition and it is active until nowadays.
The current building of the Sokol is situated in the city centre and it turned out to be insufficient for its purposes therefore the organisation is looking for a new solution. The site we chose for this project is located in a park next to a sports hall, cinema, school and muzeum, it is easily accessible from the city center. The Sokol as a connection of culture and sport and therefore we consider the location to be ideal. The building is completing the solitary develoment and it is adding a new function to the greenery around. The Sokol building is convieved as three storey building which consists of spaces for sport activities such as big gym, boulder wall, smaller gym for gymnastics or workout; spaces for recreation or meetings such as cafĂŠ, theatre room (multipurpose space) and clubroom. The faclities is also necessary. The building is devided into three schematic units which are connected by a big openspace entry hall.
The big gym is equipped with stands for spectators in upper floors around all the gym. The structural system is designed as a framework from glued laminated timbers. The natural materials are characteristic for the design and it is projected to the interiors as well.

STRICTLY PARAMETRIC „Choose an architectural phenomenon and explore it, exploit it, exhaust it. Make an architecture strictly about the phenomenon. Do not strive for perfection, don’t search for answers. Get out of your comfort zone when looking for the driving force. Make an architecture out of your explorations. There is no other assignment – no site, no program, no scale. Elaborate on what is architecture and how can you make your formal exploration architectural. Think about the relation of a physically present human and the object. Make it a consistent ultimate architecture of the phenomenon.“

In 2017 The city of Brno started a project of a participative budgeting and challanged all inhabitants to suggest their ideas and projects of what is missing in their surroundings and announced a public competition. The best projects will be chosen and implemented.

Our project of a library reconstruction happenned to be a cooperation between the Jiřà Mahen Library, Faculty of Design and Faculty of Architecture and managed to be on the list of winners.
NOW? The existing branch of the main library is situated in an old building with vaults structure. The existing space is not sufficient, not well organized, very dark and cramped. The facade is inconspicuous and many peple do not even know that it exists.
BOOKBOX Our design is based on a simple idea of a modul of a box which we use for the furnishing in the interior and we project it on a facade as well in a form of a flower pots and an actual BOOKBOX where the readers can return the books when the library is closed.

The main element of the BOX is projected to all equipment and furniture and it allowed us to create a multipurpouse space for different kinds of activities such as lectures or educational programs. The design tries to make a light open space but also to give an opportunity to adjust it according to the needs. There is a little stage creating a „kids corner“ with a storage space under and hidden seating places and mattraces for more comfortable reading.

HISTORY The Essler textile factory was built in 1913 and is situated on an artificial island of the river Svitava in Brno. The site is abandonned since 1992 and since then the building is falling into disrepair. Its structure is one of the oldest re-inforced concrete frames in Czech yet is still in a danger of a demolition.
DESIGN

The commerce is situated in the layout in an open space courtyard. The tower ground floor and the luxurious flats in the upper situated in the right corner of the building is used Pohledy / floors. There is a sheltered arcade all around the as a gallery or a small museum dedicated to its Elevations glass walls in order to create a pleasant outdoor history and offers a pretty view on the river.

STRUCTURE PAPER FUNCTIONALISM
Vila Stiassni is one of the most known functionalistic buildings in Czech republic. It was built for a Jewish family, that was forced to emigrate to USA during the Nazi occupation. For many years the villa has been a property of the state. Nowadays it is on a list of National Heritage and is open to public visitors.
