VERSACIKNITS
the collection A few years ago VERSACIKNITS launched its first collection of baby knits, textured baby suite -- a collection of 5 sweet sweaters for wee ones. While people loved the collection, knitters and yarn store shop owners commented again and again that they wished that the designs were available for older kids! Since I never viewed these designs as only for babies, my associate, Beth, and I set out to up size the sweaters. We chose as broad a size range as we could - 2 years to 14 years; modified to a dropped shoulder, for a better fit; adapted buttons and eliminated plackets; and maintained 2 of positive ease across all sizes (so if your teen likes a looser fit, you might consider a larger size). Introducing VERSACIKNITS textured kids! seeds and chains kid (lapis) is a multi-textured v-neck cardigan that uses Italian chain stitch to create an open-weave pattern. open stars kid (gilded) is a rugged shawl-collared cardigan that uses open star stitch to create a textured, crochet-like look. dot knots kid (tomato) is a classic crew-neck pullover that uses dot knot pattern to add texture to a simple stockinette stitch fabric. little eyes kid (laurel) is a button-collared pullover that uses eyelet rib to give a cable effect without actual cabling. shadow ribs kid (grasshopper) is a subtle ribbed cardigan with slim vertical bars created with shadow rib stitch. We hope that you agree that the textured pattern stitches look even better when knit in larger sizes! Happy knitting, Lori and Beth

seeds and chains kid (page 22) Inspired by a menswear cardigan with a flat yoke and textured body, seeds and chains kid contrasts a simple seed stitch and a fancy openwork lace ribbing for a sophisticated yet playful look. And, the Italian chain has just enough challenge to make knitting it interesting.

open stars kid (page 26) Not your basic kid sweater, open stars kid combines a lace-like bodice with shawl collar for a refined and dapper look. One of the more difficult pattern stitches in the collection, open star stitch produces a rugged, yet lacy look similar to crochet with lots of stretch.

dot knots kid (page 29) Dot knots kid is a basic crew neck pullover, with “dots creating a playful texture on an otherwise plain stockinette stitch fabric. The dot knots are made by first creating loops and then passing the loops over worked stitches. The pattern is fun to learn, interesting to work and easier that traditional bobbles.

little eyes kid (page 32) A variation on a traditional eyelet rib, little eyes kid employs a delightfully unusual patten that gives a cable effect without actual cabling. The result is a classic knit for all ages; see weekender, for an adult alternative.

shadow ribs kid (page 35) A mini version of the adult knit, tranquil, this simple-to-knit shadow rib pattern produces a subtly ornamented fabric with slim vertical twists and plenty of stretch for a comfortable fit. Like it’s precursor, shadow ribs kid is a modern-day cardigan for any occasion.
