Turn struggling readers into independent learners!
verticylearning.org
Is this your child? • Does your child struggle with reading due to difficulty sounding out words? • Does your child struggle with spelling due to difficulty matching sounds to letters? • Do reading and spelling difficulties impact your child’s writing? • Does reading or writing make your child angry or frustrated? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, Verticy can end the frustration and help your child develop a love of reading, writing and learning - which leads to success in school.
Children learn in different ways For children with dyslexia or other language-based learning difficulties, conventional teaching strategies often do not work. This results in frustration and unhappiness for both parents and children. Verticy Learning is Calvert’s solution for meeting the needs of not only dyslexic students, but those who learn differently. In other words, some students are visual learners, retaining information best when they see it. Others learn best when they hear information, or touch it, or move while learning it. When a student sees the letter “A,” hears the sound of it and repeats it, then touches a plastic letter “A” and traces it, the brain has multiple opportunities to absorb and retain that knowledge.
Curriculum options
Specific placement for your child
• Choose a complete or supplemental curriculum for students who struggle with Reading, Writing and Spelling, or have language-based learning differences. The complete curriculum is designed for students in Grades 3-8; and the Verticy supplemental curriculum can be used to help struggling students ages 6–adult.

Mary’s Program Mary is being homeschooled by her mother. To reduce frustration, Mary works on Phonics/Spelling, Grammar/Composition, and Math for several months and then slowly integrates her other subjects back into her schedule. Focusing on these skills helps Mary become a more independent and enthusiastic learner. The goal is to let Mary “catch-up” with her other subjects once she has experienced success in areas that have caused frustration. Robert’s Program
Rafael’s Program
Robert is an 18-year-old who has severe difficulty and frustration with reading and writing. This negatively impacts not only his career goals, but his self-esteem. A friend is tutoring him for an hour three times a week, using the Phonics/Spelling program. Robert is aware that many of the graphics and activities are geared toward younger students, but he knows that these activities will help him learn to read, his primary goal.
Rafael is a ten-year-old fourth grader who attends public school. He struggles in his language arts class and is using Verticy as an intervention program. Rafael uses the Yellow level of Phonics/Spelling and the Green level of Grammar/ Composition during study hall two days a week and during an afterschool program three days a week.

“My son is 11 and has dyslexia and ADHD. He has been in tutoring since 1st grade. (5th grade now), and bounced between public and private school. Finally I gave up on both and found Verticy. We have only been using Verticy for 3 months and I have seen my son thrive, spelling words he could have never spelled before. In school we spent 4 hours every night studying and reading, only for him to fail every test. Now we can get the entire day of work done in about 5 hours and he can be the 11-year-old boy he should be. When asked if he missed school and wanted to return he replied, ‘No way, never!’”
What makes Verticy work?

For students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences, conventional teaching strategies don’t always work. Children become frustrated and angry, lose interest in school and have plummeting self-esteem.
