We are a group of ambitious creatives with a common love of underground arts.
Bass Coast was Co-Founded in 2009 by Liz Thomson, Andrea graham (the Librarian) and Andrea Oakden. The Bass Coast crew has several more core members who have been with us from before day 1! It is only with the ever growing crew of managers and volunteers that we are able to meet and expand our goals each year. We are all Bass Coast.
Our primary vision is to support the local electronic underground arts community on the west coast of BC by providing an event with

international recognition. We are very proud to be BCer’s with the name BASS COAST having the initials of the land and environment we are deeply connected to. The love of Bass electronic music and creative innovation in all forms is at the core of the experience we are passionate about providing.
The arts culture that surrounds the music is a rich creative community of artists, scientists, designers, yogi’s, environmentalists, freedom fighters, business minds, intellectuals, partiers, poets and dancers. We believe that the Bass Coast community is a supportive environment where we hope to inspire each participant to find deeper layers of themselves. Bass Coast has no corporate sponsorship.
Our stages have been built from re-claimed, re-used and recycled materials every year – as are almost all the items you’ll discover at Bass Coast.

Since year one all of the stages at Bass Coast have been made from salvaged, recycled and or recyclable materials. As we grow and our stages grow with us, we continue the pursuit of lurking around dumpsters and spending countless hours in salvage lots dreaming up possibilities; just as Liz’s mother had her do as a child. It’s an art form we are proud to practice!
MAIN STAGE Main stage has become an installation co-produced by Liz Thomson & Andor Tari. With Liz dreaming up the design then over the course of the winter sending tangents, rambles, images and sketches by email and over wine, snow and grass to Andor and the Crew. Andor then conducts how to turn these figments of imagination into reality with his own style, modifications and unique ideas added into the mix. The crew is a small collection of Hybrids, or highly functioning creatives, who are excellent at helping translate the inspired vision into an tangible interactive installation (again with their own personal genius touches shining throughout the design). The lighting and effects are fundamental variables at the root of each design as the stages can

more accurately be classified as VERY INTERESTING SCREENS..more so than stage designs. These lighting concepts are then taken over and accelerated, modified and enhanced by the eccentric, professional lighting master Johan Boss and the VJ crew.
STAGES:
SLAY BAY Each year we pick a different artist to create Slay Bay. It began with Andor Tari and crew in 2009, whose stage kit we still use today as the DJ booth and roof. In 2010 Kelsey Faery and her crew created a pirate ship; how perfect for Slay Bay to have a pirate ship on its shores. In 2011 Pepe co-designed with Liz and his crew to create a legendary larger than life Dave Petko classic. This creature wrapped around the dance floor and stunned the crowd, with Johan’s lighting further bringing the creature to life.
RADIO STAGE THE BASS BUS is presenting the Radio Stage this year, with decor by the one and only Kelsey Faery and programming by Bass Cost Girl, the Librarian, the 3 should bring back the radio star.

Throughout the festival site we will have multiple stations for you

WASTE REDUCTION:
to filter your waste. In each station there will be 2 large bins. 1 for all recyclables and 1 for non-recyclables. The stations will also have porta-potties beside them. The recycling bins are co-mingled. This means that ALL recycables can be colected in 1 bin and we are paying a professional and fully equipped facility off-site to sort, clean and recycle our recycables. This plan is designed to:
1. take full responsibility for the waste we are bringing into the area. 2. minimizing the contamination of recycables 3. maximize the ratio of recycables : non-recycables 4. minimize litter 5. make self waste management accessible and easy for guests. The Festival has been the site of many hard working and dedicated recruits. Please take your waste to the stations located beside each stage. You can also reduce your impact by bringing a refillable water bottle, a backpack and a flash light to assist you during the night. On Monday as you exit the festival, each colour section (VIEW MAP) will have a HOST theme camp. The Host’s main responsibility is to work with the campers over the weekend to make sure everyone is taking responsibility and LEAVING NO TRACE!
If you have LARGE NON RECYCLABLES such as a broken pop up tent or chair please take responsibility for it yourself and take it to the dump. If we see you disposing of it onsite you will be asked to pay a dumping fee. Recycling and garbage locations are spaced within 200m of each other. Please work with us and TAKE YOUR WASTE TO THE NEAREST STATION onsite.

CAN I HAVE MY OWN STAGE IN THE CAMPSITE? No we cannot allow renegade stages. Our event permit is very strict and only allows the sanctioned stages. Security will shut down any renegade stages, sorry.

IS THERE A BAR ON SITE? CAN I BRING MY OWN ALCOHOL? Bass Coast is an alcohol-free event. Any Alcohol found in vehicle searches on the way in will be confiscated. Any Alcohol inside the festival grounds will be dumped.

IS THERE CELL SERVICE? Cell service is very spotty. There are certain areas where you may connect however it does not usually support the 3G network.

IS THERE WATER AND / OR ICE AVAILABLE ON SITE? YES Water is provided free of charge. Bring a water bottle to fill up at our water station. Ice is available to purchase from our General Store.

CAN I HAVE A FIRE AT MY CAMPSITE? NO fires allowed on site. The surrounding community does not have fire protection and would lose everything in the event of a fire.

CAN I SWIM IN THE RIVER? The river is very cold, fast and dangerous. No swimming or floating on personal blow up toys.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY GARBAGE / RECYCLING? Please bring your recycling to our station on site. Take your garbage
