CAFE PAVILION
SECOND YEAR
PHILATELIC MUSEUM NEW DELHI
SITE The site is a 30mx30m flat plot. The project demanded a cafe pavilion be designed for catering around 50 people. The idea was to take up one of the five classical elements of nature.
DESIGN The design approach to the exercise was, first breaking up the nature of the element, understanding its properties, behavior and form. Then, by the virtue of that, understanding the form and space of the pavilion to make the visitors experience that element in a dominant yet hidden form. Therefore, through a series of attempts, I managed to arrive at a form which had the fluidity and a hint of surface tension similar to that of water. The idea was to create a bubbly, bulging yet penetrable form which allowed visibility through its surface just like water. A terrace was provided was the purpose of view and vista.
SITE
The site was located at the Gol Dak Khana roundabout, New Delhi. It forms a central node from where diversions to 6 distinct parts of Delhi emerge.
CONCEPT
Breaking away from the compelling continuity of the circular form in order to make the museum stand out. The triangular, radial nature of the form of the museum is insipred from the circular geometry of the existing Gol Dak Khana.

FORM DEVELOPMENT
Location: New Delhi Site Area: 10,000 sq.m. Setback: 9 m from the front, 6m from other boundaries FAR: 2
This closed environment space is envisioned a multi-level building in a dense urban context dealing with current day challenges of climate change and environmental degradation. For meeting this challenge, active renewable energy systems have been integrated as a solution to the efficiency needs of the day. The form was developed taking into consideration, the orientation of the built form so as to minimize heat gain owing to the major east-west orientation of the site. Also, the built mass was consized and compact to enhance efficiency of the integrated services throughout the building. The facade is modulated to employ mutual shading.
VISION
The design sought to undertake the development of a closed environment design with refinement in structural basis, articulation of interior spaces, integration of mechanical services and provision of vehicle parking.

NEW DELHI SITE AND PROPOSAL (Nauroji Nagar Redevelopment)
In keeping with the policy of increasing the population holding capacity and proper utilization of land within city limits, the strategy is to carry out intense redevelopment. The 12.12 hectare pocket will cater to the retail, entertainment, office and hospitality needs of Delhi 2021and cater major surrounding residential pockets. The complex is intended to give back the city its missing urban open space and act as an urban node. Street type retail has been introduced to provide an intimate and open shopping experience.
NEW DELHI CONCEPT The major initiatives were to decongest the ring road by connecting the flyovers and increasing accessibility by means of a subway from the proposed Bhikaji Cama Place metro station. The vehicular access points were concentrated to the periphery of the site to promote pedestrianization of the whole complex.
