Get paid to study and gain a rewarding career with a Defence University Sponsorship or at our Australian Defence Force Academy. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) offers outstanding career opportunities in a wide variety of areas including aviation, business management, engineering, healthcare, logistics and technology.

About ADF….

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) offers two unique pathways for students looking to continue their study after school.

Forged from a partnership between the ADF and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra offers world-class degrees undertaken in parallel with military and leadership training. If accepted to join the Navy, Army or Air Force and attend ADFA, you will receive a fully-funded tertiary education plus a salary while you study and train. In return for a minimum period of minimum service, your HELP will be covered.

Apply for a role then complete your course with a Defence University Sponsorship (DUS). You’ll find dozens of officer roles in the Navy, Army and Air Force, across professions such as engineering, healthcare, allied health, law, human resources and logistics. Through DUS you can apply for one of these positions while studying for your degree, as long as you have your results from at least the first semester. If successful, you’ll join your chosen Service and be paid a salary package for the agreed period it takes to complete your studies, you’ll also have the peace of mind of a guaranteed job once you’ve graduated.

Key information you need to know

- Must be an Australian Citizen to apply - Students can begin their application at 16 years for ADFA and 16.5 years for all other avenues - Prior to Appointment into the ADF, candidates will need to undertake a Pre-Entry Fitness Assessment, which varies service to service
