Letters from the Editors The past five years with VEUX have flown by in a flash. It is amazing to see how much has changed since the day my partners, Vi Vien and Wales, and I started the magazine. Fashion has made unique strides. Photography and make-up techniques have progressed. The concept of “traditional beauty” has evolved. Our team has experienced much growth, both personally and professionally. I wish I could meet every single person who has contributed talent to one (or more) of VEUX’s issues. I imagine it would be an exhilarating five-year trip around the world, full of unique points of view and enriching cultural experiences. Even after all these years and so many issues, I’m constantly amazed by the quality of work that graces our pages. I am so thankful for the past five years with this publication. Our dream that became a reality. It is a blessing to have such an effortless and strong relationship with my partners, Vi Vien and Wales. I couldn’t have asked for better and more talented colleagues on this venture. I am inspired, amazed, and elevated by their hard work. Thank you so much, ladies. And, as always, a huge thank you to our readers and contributors. We would never be here without you all! ~Ada I think every year when I reflect on how far we’ve come with another anniversary issue, I’m constantly amazed by how fast the time goes by and how many talented people we’ve come to know. Being able to have an international reach with the publication has given us access to diverse perspectives on aesthetics, arts, and narratives. Every year brings a new set of challenges so Veux Mag has been an integral part to my growth both professionally and personally. This past year, I went back to school as a student while juggling work and this publication. The integrity and professionalism of my partners, Vi Vien and Ada, is what keeps me going even during times of stress and pressure due to urgent tasks that arise when I least expect it. Thank you to our submitters, our readers, and our supporters. And a very special debt of gratitude to my partners, Vi Vien and Ada, who always reflect strength and positivity when I need it the most. ~Wales
Five years is a long time. Five years is half a decade. Five years is approximately 1825 days (give or take a few leap days). Five years is enough time for a plethora of life events. I think back to what I was doing and where I was five years ago and it seems so many lifetimes ago. A lot has changed: what I do, where I live, how I feel about myself and my place in the world. Of course, a lot of the important things haven’t changed: family and friends. I count my blessings every day that I can include my partners, Ada and Wales, among the constants in my life that I’ve carried forward with me. The privilege of working in such a seamless and cooperative team with such passionate, driven and smart women is a dream! People often allude to the gritty side of arts and fashion, and after five years, Ada, Wales and I all have our share of learned experiences. Running a fashion magazine is just as much catwalk glamour as it is spreadsheets and project management. But what motivates us are the creative teams, writers, and artists we have worked with these past 31 issues, the trust they put in us to convey their artistic message and the hard work we see in every submission that lands across our desks. So thank you for the support, and here’s to another five years! ~Vi Vien 5TH ANNIVERSARY | ISSUE 31 | VEUX | 3

The Romance of Fashion By Anicia Bragg
We are all after “The Right Look.” It can leave those around us more than impressed. We all understand the lasting impact of first impressions. A great one lasts in our minds just as long as a terrible one. We want others to love our outfits as much as we do, to notice us positively. That affects how we feel and act. If we look fabulous, we think much better of ourselves! That’s what I really love about fashion - it can work for everyone and what we chose to wear can set the mood for feeling confident, beautiful, powerful and even flirtatious.
14 | VEUX | ISSUE 31 | 5TH ANNIVERSARY
Fashion is about confidence. What we wear is an extension of our personalities. I have an intense love affair with my wardrobe because I can experiment with my own personality even before I walk out the door to meet someone, say hello or make a personal appearance. If you are having a bad day, wear a stunning outfit! Grab your best pair of shoes and earrings. You can instantly feel better about yourself! A great fashion statement can make you unforgettable and will definitely get you tons of compliments. (Continued on page 19)
Wardrobe Stylist Shannon Campbell Summer Advice When things heat up, it’s time to lighten up. Swap your blues for a perfect pair of white jeans and put the top down. White skinny jeans should be a staple piece in every woman’s wardrobe! The sleeveless tee and skinny jeans are from the timeless brand, Burberry. This brand has come a long way since the old days of a boring tan plaid. Whether you are heading to Rodeo Drive for a shopping spree, or taking a day trip to Temecula for a wine tasting - you will feel confident and comfortable conquering the day while looking cool when its hot! Since this outfit is minimal, accessorizing is key. You can either dress up or dress down. The Dolce & Gabbana bag does just that! The contemporary classic revamp is finished with polished detailing for a touch of this label’s recognizable finesse.

Why not exude all these traits by wearing a yellow dress? This Versace is simple, elegant and classy. You want to be careful to not over-accessorize. There is enough going on with this dress that you don’t need to add much aside from the Fendi shoes. A woman can never have too many shoes! Make room in your closet – this dress is a must-have staple piece in your wardrobe. Fendi is definitely known for their decadent eyecatching embellishments and grommets.
The outfit is great for a nice brunch. Why not head
out to Spago, The Bazaar, Bouchon and be seen shining in confidence and elegance? Heads are sure to turn!

More From Shannon! Herve Leger has definitely come a long way! This glamorous, elite, and luxury couture brand is known for its signature bondage dresses. This brand goes back to 30 years of iconic style. Whether you are heading out of town for a helicopter ride for the night to grab a romantic dinner in San Francisco or maybe heading to a red carpet, this dress is definitely a must-have. The bondage material accents your sexy curves and the fringe creates a fun, flapper, and whimsical effect.

Let’s say you have been perusing blogs and apps galore and you are still having trouble finding outfits to wear. “What now?” you might ask. You can never go wrong with a black outfit, which is almost always flattering and fashionable. It has always been the perfect go-to when you are undecided.
(Continued from Page 16) If you have no idea about what to wear, there are plenty of fashion websites and blogs to follow. There are even fashion apps that can help you keep up with the latest trends and provide fashion look ideas. If you’re looking for in-person advice, Nordstrom offers free personal stylists and shoppers to assist with fashion decisions for any occasion. You can schedule a call with one of their stylists (be sure to phone 24 hours ahead), discuss the occasion and show up to a room full of gorgeous choices tailored for you! I firmly believe it is very important to have a dreamy outfit as part of your wardrobe. It might be pricey, but remember this is THE outfit that even on a bad day can make you feel like a million dollars. Now, I have to admit that I am all about buying what I want and worrying about it later. I never look at the price tags. I believe if we work hard, we should reward ourselves. My dreamy outfit is a reward that makes me feel simply amazing!
Once you have a few solid outfits and you feel poised about your newfound fashion sensibilities, you can start to mix and match, add to your looks, splurge on new pieces and get creative. If any of your clothes don’t feel right or a piece doesn’t feel like you anymore, skip it and donate it. If you don’t feel stunning in it, it’s just taking up closet space. I hope these words help you become the goddess that you are!

Final Thoughts from Shannon... Trench coats have definitely made a big comeback this season. Since the 1850s when Thomas Burberry created the first iteration of the now-timeless design, the trench coat has remained a cornerstone of any well-edited outerwear collection. Sometimes we have to get out of our comfort zone - why not wear it as a dress? So, as you can see, trench coats are not just for inclement weather anymore. Another staple piece a woman should have in her wardrobe are sunglasses. Everyone needs a pair of sunglasses that they can count on throughout the summer. Since you are going to be wearing them on a daily basis, investing in a quality pair is key. Whether you are a celebrity or just want to look like one, get a fun pair of sunglasses. Anything goes these days.

WRITING
Watching Wolf By Jacqueline Shea Your feet trudge along the wet cement. Concrete. The sky is dark and the stars are struggling to shine. You walk with rigidity. Something…someone is watching you. The gaze is hidden among the trees at the peripherals of your sight. For some reason, the feeling of the eyes at the back of your skull does not frighten you. You’ve felt it before. You shake the gaze from the nape of your neck. You look up to see the moon breaking through the clouds with all its might. Bursting. At the base of your core, you feel something grow. It is unstoppable. It climbs its way to your throat and you choke on its intensity. Your limbs soften and your purposed gait falls wayward. Your body starts to move like waves rolling onto shore. Calm. You hear a twig snap in the distance, knowing the gaze is still curious. You are dancing. The choking subsides and you release an unearthly howl. A sound so unbound. Free. You reach your destination. Home. You wash away the structured humanness you’ve grown accustomed to. As the water drips from your face. You see it again. The gaze. It stares back at you through your reflection. It has been patient but it is relieved. Those eyes can see the return… The return of wildness.

Little Escapes By Jacqueline Shea The flesh of your skin rises in anticipation. You wonder what you are waiting for. Your eyes dazzle under the blur of routine. How did they get so clouded? Breathe deep and realize you are inhaling more than just air around you. Sounds, light, movement. The gripping and terrifying reality that has become your life. 1, 2, 3, 4 Breathe. Again. Do you feel it? The burning of your heart under the darkened, viscous crude that encapsulates. That taste in your mouth is familiar but long forgotten. Freedom. Remember the way you laid in the sun when you were a child. Radiant. That glow is still there, you just have to search with clarity. What do you want? Listen to that burning heart as its rhythm reminds you of a song you used to sing to. Open your mouth and breathe. But this time‌exhale the spirit back into the world. Resurrection. Those eyes will dazzle again.
